Awkward & Awesome

AWKWARD

  • Thunderstorms in June. Maybe it’s normal in the part of the country where you live, but it’s definitely unusual for California. However, I appreciated the cool air that the thunderstorm brought on Tuesday. One extra night without having to use the fan/AC.
  • So, when I am not donating clothes to Goodwill, I usually bring some of the nicer stuff  to Crossroads Trading & Co. to get a little cash (or store credit). What pisses me off though is that they usually only accept very little out of a full bag of clothes, telling me that some of the clothes aren’t quite in style anymore (stuff that is maybe a year old and in case you didn’t know, I have a lot of “timeless” clothes and I am by no means a fashionista). What pisses me off even more is the fact that when I browse their isles, I always find clothes that are exactly like the stuff that they just rejected 5 minutes ago. What gives? What am I doing wrong? Wrong shop assistant? Wrong day? Wrong time?
  • Buying groceries at two different stores and paying almost the exact same amount for each purchase ($18.67 and $18.76). I actually had to take a second look.

AWESOME

  • Scored $200 Michael Kors heels for $22 at the thrift store the other day. Very awesome!
  • My parents will be here in 23 days. I can’t wait. I am so overdue for some family time and time off from work!
  • My boss noticed that I’ve been wearing more skirts to the office lately. I find that particularly awesome, because he’s the only one at my office who always notices stuff like that…. like, when I get a new haircut and/or color or when I wear a new piece of clothing.
  • Inspiring quotes. I came across quite a few beautiful quotes this week on Pinterest and felt inspired.
  • Homemade pizza! I made some pizza earlier this week and it was easy to make and absolutely delicious! (Recipe to follow.)
  • Buying yourself some flowers. Who says you can’t? It’s total girl power! (And who knew that tulips are still in season around this time of year? Obviously they are here, but not in Germany they aren’t.)
  • The weekend is almost here!

Tapa the World

June 27, 2011 filed under: food, my so-called life, photography, weekend

J and I took a little trip to Europe on Saturday. Well, not literally. You know that’s not possible in a 24-hour day (when’s the teleporter finally going to be invented, I ask!), but we definitely felt like we were in Europe sitting on the street patio of this fantastic Spanish restaurant in town on Saturday night.
We didn’t have dinner before 10 p.m. (that’s the Spanish thing to do!), it was still fairly warm outside, I enjoyed some Sangria and we ordered those delicious tapas (“appetizers”)

Fresh bread

Steamed mussels (Sorry  that I only got a picture after the fact, but the mussels were just too good!)

Fried potatoes

Mushrooms

Olive assortment

This is what I love about Midtown. That there is a variety of independent restaurants with food from all over the world. That we can walk and in within minutes be in the heart of this city. That we can also feel like we’re thousands of miles away in a different country by diving into these wonderful authentic restaurants and delicious foods.

How was your weekend?

Style Saturday

June 18, 2011 filed under: fashion, pretty

Ruffle skirt
James Perse ribbed tank top, $68 Skirt, Wedge shoes, Flora Bella handbag, $165 Isharya brass bangle, $95 Forever21.com – Beauty – Makeup – 1057213187, $1.50

It’s been getting really hot here in the last few days and I am wearing more skirts because of it. I am totally in love with this ruffle skirt – it’s so light and airy – and paired with the white tank top and white wedges, it’s a light and breezy summer outfit. I added a little bit of color by choosing the peach-colored accessories.
Would you consider wearing this on a hot summer day?

Things I Love Thursday

June 16, 2011 filed under: love, my so-called life, TILT

{Source: flickr.com via San on Pinterest}

This week I am loving…

… all the awesome new blog posts that I came across this week (and that I will share with you tomorrow on Friday Link Love).

… early evening walks in the park (minus the mosquitoes, because they love me and out of 10 mosquito bites, I will get 10 and J will get none. So unfair!)

… having ceiling fans in every room of our new apartment. Holy goodness. I have no idea how we survived the hot summers at our old apartment with only a small air-conditioning unit in the living room. As much as I sometimes curse about how much they cool down our office in the summer (read: we work in a giant “refrigerator”), it’s nice to be in an air-conditioned building all day when the temperatures slowly creep up into the triple digits.

… mid-week movie nights!

… Vanilla Greek Yogurt with fresh strawberries.

… the sweet gray cat in our neighborhood that we recently befriended. I wish I could take her home.

… San Pellegrino Sparkling Lemonade. Delicious!

… the fact that my Mom and my great-aunt, who both had to go to the hospital this week, are doing ok. I really hate being so far away from home when stuff like that is going on, but luckily everything seems to be fine.

What are you loving this week?
