Cool Bloggers Walking Club: October 1-15

It’s that time! Elisabeth is hosting Cool Bloggers Walking Club (CBWC) again this month. We’re aiming for ten minutes of intentional movement every day. I am knee-deep into a marathon training plan and typically run 5 days per week, so daily movement is mostly built into my day right now, and first thing in the morning, but accountability on the off-running days is still appreciated. Here’s how the first half of the month went.

October 1:

Up bright and early to get in four miles on the treadmill before work.

October 2:

I had a rest day planned and did one yoga and stretching in the morning, and went for post-dinner neighborhood walk (2.22 mi) with Jon. The house in our neighborhood with the “Peanuts”- flags switched out their flag for pumpkin season! I am here for it!

October 3:

Saturday is for long runs and I ran 16-mile on the American River Trail. It’s October and I am still out there with shorts and tank tops. While I am looking forward to fall now, I am definitely not complaining about running in shorts for a bit longer. I hate bundling up for running because you inevitably have to shed layers along the way. I recently purchased a vest that I am planning to make use of this winter. I think with a long sleeve shirt that could be a good compromise between freezing and having to wear a warm jacket.

October 4:

I took advantage again to be able to run outside and went for a 3-mile easy run the morning. I also added some extra steps with a 15-minute walk on the walking pad after dinner.

October 5:

7 miles on the treadmill before work

October 6:

I did a yoga flow and strength session in the morning and later went for a 10 minute pre-dinner walk on the walking pad. It’s getting dark earlier now and I see this will become a more regular option during the fall and winter months.

October 7:

I had 7 miles on my training schedule, but there were six (!) people at the gym when I got there, and both treads were occupied. What to do? I contemplated going home and hopping on the Peloton instead, but then decided to do a quick upper body strength class in hopes that one of the treads would free up. And it eventually did, and I was able to get my run in. However, I had to switch my 7-mile run with the 4 miles I had planned for the next day, because I did not have enough time left to do 7 miles.

October 8:

I did 7 miles on the treadmill this morning. As you can see, it’s still dark outside and yes, I am a bit sweaty even though I had the fans turning the whole time! (I know, Nicole can relate.) I also got some more steps during my 30-minute lunch walk with my co-worker.

October 9:

I went for a 3-mile easy run in the morning and then got picked up by some girlfriends for a weekend in Truckee, California (near Lake Tahoe). We went for a 4.5 mile hike at the Donner Lake Rim Trail/Bermgarten in the afternoon.

October 10:

Part of the fun of a girls’ weekend is just hanging out, chatting, puzzling, and enjoying the hot tub. Luckily, I also have active girlfriends who were eager to get outside and hike the 6+ mile loop on the Mt Rose Trail in Washoe County, Nevada (near Lake Tahoe). We passed a waterfall, enjoyed gorgeous views of the Sierra Nevada, and simply enjoyed moving outdoors. It was a cool, but sunny day! We had also packed a lunch, and don’t you agree that a sandwich tastes that much better when enjoyed out in nature?

October 11:

I got back from Lake Tahoe today and had some errands to run. Does my walking through Target and Trader Joe’s count as intentional movement? I mean, I was there with the intention to get my grocery shopping done and I was moving for more than 10 minutes. I’d say that counts!

October 12:

I was lucky I get the day off (for Indigenous People’s Day). It gave me the option to push my 12-mile long run to Monday because I was not prepared to do the run at altitude over the weekend. I got out a little later than I wanted because I was tired and didn’t feel that great but the long run is the most important run of your training week, so I wanted to get this done.

October 13:

I switched around my training runs this week to not have multiple hard sessions back to back. “Only” 4 miles on the treadmill and a 10-minute lunchtime walk around Campus today.

October 14:

Another early morning and there was nobody in the gym at 5:40 am (compared to six people on Wednesday last week). I can’t figure it out. Haha. But hey, I got my 8 miles on the treadmill done before work.

October 15:

I only had strength and yoga planned in the morning but I went for a 15-minute lunchtime walk.

Are you participating in the CBWC? Do you have a favorite walking routine?
