24: 2024 Weekly Run Down 47/52 – Caught in the rain

This week’s stats:

Running: 37.5 mi
Cycling: 15.4 mi
Strength: 60 min
Yoga/Pilates/Barre: 80 min
Warm up/Stretching: 60 min
Meditation: 20 min

I am linking up again for the Weekly Run Down with Kim and Deborah.

This week was a pretty normal week. I only had to switch two days (Monday and Tuesday) because of my mammogram appointment and was able to keep all my other scheduled runs as planned. I even got lucky with the atmospheric river that was coming through California at the end of the week and did not have to do the long run (12 miles) on the treadmill on Saturday. Thank goodness.

Monday

  • 5 Min Pre-Run Warm Up – Rebecca (7/17/24)
  • 60 Min Easy Run + Strides
    • 10 Min Pre-Run-Warm Up – Matt (5/21/19) — Road to 26.2
    • 45 Min Tempo Run – Robin (7/18/19) — Road to 26.2
  • 10 Min Gabrielle Full Body Stretch – Joslyn (10/24/24) — Gratitude Jar
  • 10 Min Savasana – Nico (10/29/24) — Personal Streak

I switched my rest day from Monday to Tuesday and completed an easy run with strides in the morning. I also chose a stretch with Joslyn, who I added to my “Gratitude Jar”. I really enjoy her classes.

Tuesday

  • 20 Min Restorative Yoga – Kristin (7/27/23) — Personal Streak

I had my mammogram appointment today and did not work out in the morning. That is rare. I opted for a 20-minute restorative yoga class before bedtime for my rest day.

Wednesday

  • 30 Min Pop Classical Ride – Bradley (11/15/24) — Gratitude Jar
  • 10 Min Pre-Run Warm Up – Becs (5/21/19) — Road to 26.2
  • 60 Min Run with 30 min @ GMP
    • 60 Min Marathon Race Prep Run – Matt (7/18/19) — Road to 26.2
  • 30 Min Strength for Runners – Rebecca (9/23/22) — Road to 26.2
  • 10 Min Coldplay Full Body Stretch – Rebecca (10/8/24) — Self Gratitude
  • 10 Min Restorative Yoga – Chelsea (3/27/23) — Personal Streak

I met up with Lindsay and Melissa (two of the #BCBabes) for a 30-minute Pop Classical Ride with Bradley this morning. It was so nice to ride together again (we don’t do this often enough right now). I then warmed up and headed out for my 60-minute run (including 30 minutes @ goal marathon pace). Based on my 20-miler results, I now aim for a < 9 min/mi for my race. I hope that’s feasible. I got lucky because it was supposed to start raining in the morning, but I made it through my run with only a few sprinkles (before it started pouring after I got home).

Thursday

  • 10 Min Gratitude Meditation – Kristin (12/13/23)
  • 30 Min Strength for Runners – Andy (9/23/22) — Gratitude Jar
  • 30 Min Rock Ride – Denis (3/23/24)
  • 5 Min Post-Ride Stretch – Bradley (10/29/24)
  • 10 Min Savasana – Anna (1/31/24) — Personal Streak

I started my morning with some meditation and a strength for runners class and then met up with my sister on the bike. It’s been a minute since we were able to coordinate and work out together, so I was thrilled it worked out today!

Friday

  • 10 Min Morning Meditation – Anna (8/26/24) 5 Min Warm Up Run – Adrian (11/4/24)
  • 45 Min Easy Run
    • 15 Min 90s Run – Adrian (8/28/24)
    • 30 Min EDM Run – Jon (10/28/22) — Road to 26.2
  • 10 Min Savasana – Anna (1/31/24) — Personal Streak

Today was a super-rainy (and super-busy) day, so I did my easy run on the treadmill this morning to get it out of the way.

Saturday

  • 5 Min Pre-Run Warm Up – Rebecca (7/17/24)
  • 12 Mile Run
    • 10 Min Pre-Run Warm Up – Becs (7/18/19) — Road to 26.2
    • 30 Min Nirvana Run – Becs (11/20/24) — Gratitude Jar
    • 30 Min Endurance Run – Matt (7/12/23)
    • 15 Min Run – Jon ( 3/26/24)
    • 30 Min Eminem Run – JJ (6/29/23)
  • 10 Min Savasana – Nico (10/29/24) — Personal Streak

I had anticipated having to do this long run on the treadmill because of the expected rain, but after nonstop rain on Friday, it looked like Saturday morning would be overcast but dry and I was hopeful that I could squeeze in my run before the next round of rain. I left the house at 8 am and it was pleasant running weather (temperatures in the low 50s). And I almost made it back home but then did get rained on during the last 2 miles of my run. I actually don’t mind running in the rain as long as the rain starts when I am already well on my way. I do not, however, like to start my runs when it’s already raining. Anybody else? Oh well, I guess that was at least practice in case it should rain here on marathon race day.

Sunday

  • 5 Min Pre-Run Warm Up – Rebecca (7/17/24)
  • 75 Min Easy Run + Strides
    • 45 Min Rock Run – Rebecca (11/6/20) — Gratitude Jar
    • 30 Min Nirvana Run – Susie (11/22/24)
  • 5 Min Post-Run Stretch – JJ (9/11/24)
  • 10 Min Restorative Yoga – Kristin (3/19/24) — Personal Streak

The weather app kept changing the forecast, so I had another opportunity to run outside because it was cold, but sunny today. I’ll take it! I completed 8+ easy miles with some strides.

Current Challenges + Trackers:

I filled up the Gratitude Jar – yay! That was a great tracker for this month. I also anticipate finishing out the Self-Gratitude Tracker and my Personal Streak (daily yoga). However, I probably won’t be finishing the Bootcamp Tracker. Maybe I can squeeze on more bootcamp in with the #BCBabes before the end of the month. Fingers crossed.

  1. No rain! But it’s going to get very cold this week and I’m sort of wondering if it’s going to be too cold to decorate outside after Thanksgiving. Timing of decorations is always hard in the cold.
You’re doing such a great job preparing for your race!

  2. I’m the same, I can run in the rain, but if I’m not already in the process of running, I workout inside. I didn’t know you workout with your sister via internet. That’s so cool. I slept in today until minutes before my babies were getting dropped off, and I did 25 minutes of strength while 2 were sleeping and 2 were eating breakfast. I’m trying to let myself off the hook and prioritize sleep. That’s working for me. (I rarely sleep past 7, but when I do, hooray)

  3. I was in a running club for 2 of my 4 marathons and we ran rain or shine so I did do some runs in the rain from the start! It was pouring at the start of my 2nd marathon and that was rough. You stand around so much waiting for the race to start so standing in a downpour was NOT FUN and I was worried I would chafe but I did ok. I never had to do a training run on a treadmill in all of my marathons thank goodness. I do not think I could run 12 miles on a treadmill. I would lose my mind!

  4. I feel the same as you- I don’t mind rain in the middle or toward the end of a run. It’s hard to head out in the rain though- especially if it’s cooler. You definitely lucked out this week with the weather. Nice job getting it all in AND getting your mammogram done!

  5. Nice week, full of great fitness fun! I’m with you on the rain situation…I don’t mind rain (much) if the temps aren’t’ too cold AND I’m already moving. I seldom will head out into an already existing downpour unless it’s a race.

  6. It is a big tough to get psyched up to do a long run in the rain, but not so bad when you finish in it. 12 miles hardly seems like a long run now, right? Great job on the workouts this week!

  7. That is so funny that ou don’t mind running in the rain as long as you dont need to start running in the rain. How long does is the “start phase” I wonder…

  8. Because I run with a running club I’ve got used to running in the rain, but it is easier if it isn’t raining before you start, but I don’t have a treadmill so I still run outside. Now I’ve joined a gym I could go there but I don’t think I would.
