2024 Weekly Run Down 37/52 – Ups and Downs

This week’s stats:

Running: 34.4 mi
Cycling: 13.6 mi
Strength: 60 min
Yoga/Pilates/Barre: 115 min
Warm-up/Stretching: 55 min
Meditation: 10 min

I am linking up again for the Weekly Run Down with Kim and Deborah.

This week went well overall, but I hit a little bit of a wall during my long run on Saturday. Not sure what the cause was, but I know and expect there to be good and bad runs. It’s all part of the training cycle. On Wednesday, I also participated in the 9/11 Challenge, organized annually by the Barkle App. It’s in remembrance of 9/11 and you sign up to ‘represent’ (and collect miles) for one floor of the WTC.

  • 20 Min Hip Mobility – Erik (5/2/23) — Tackling Self Love

Rest Day! I only planned a focus flow for runners (seriously, these are always so good!) and Tanja joined me for a hip mobility class and some stretching.

I started my morning off with an easy run with strides. When I got back home, I completed some strength work for runners and then met up with Tanja and my sister for a climb ride with Denis.

Saturday

  •  5 Min Pre-Run Warm Up – Rebecca (7/17/24)
  • 12-mile long run
    • 10 Min Long Run Warm Up – Robin (5/21/19) — Road to 26.2/End Zone Energy

    • 45 Min Endurance Run – Susie (8/22/24)
  • 15 Min Focus Flow: For Runners – Denis (9/13/24) — Personal Streak

I was on the struggle bus for my long run today. It all started out well enough, but I hit a wall around mile 8. I pushed through for another two miles but then had to take some walking breaks during the last two miles. I am not sure if the fast-rising temperatures caught up with me or if I was just feeling some cumulative fatigue, but needless to say, it wasn’t my best run. Oh well. It happens. I finished with a yoga flow for runners when I came back and then made myself a big breakfast.

Sunday

  • 5 Min Pre-Run Warm Up – Rebecca (7/17/24)
  • 55 Min Easy Run
    • 10 Min Pre-Run Warm Up – Matt (5/21/19) — Road to 26.2
    • 45 Min Tempo Run – Matt (6/5/19) — Road to 26.2
  • 10 Min Focus Flow: Quads – Denis (2/21/21) — End Zone Energy
  • 20 Min Restorative Yoga – Anna (5/26/21) — Serenity Sunday
  • 10 Min Peace Meditation – Ross (4/24/20) — Serenity Sunday

I had some easy miles on the schedule this morning and my legs felt much better. What a relief! I did a quick yoga flow for my quads and then later in the afternoon joined my Streakers365 Group for some yoga and meditation for Serenity Sunday again.

Current Challenges + Trackers:

I didn’t find time to squeeze in a bootcamp this week, but was able to keep up with the ‘End Zone Energy’ and the self-care trackers. I am also enjoying a lot of the yoga for runners classes right now. They’re a perfect addition to my training.

  1. Nice week of fitness! I’m always glad to see tribute runs/workouts to September 11th (or any significant event), so thanks for devoting some time for that ;-)

    1. Oh yes, these tribute runs/workouts are always fun and I try to make a point to take them!

  2. I’m sure it’s hard to keep up with motivation when there is a hard long run, but you have really exercised (pun intended) your “grit” muscles so often during the last few years I know you can keep going and finish strong!!!

    1. Thank you, Elisabeth. I definitely didn’t feel great after the long run but I have enough evidence by now that I know that I can just keep going and bounce back!

  3. Solid week of fitness! well done. You must have some records on the Peloton app for most classes!

  4. Tough runs are all part of the training process. It’s learning to bounce back!! You totally got this.

    1. Thanks Deb. You’re absolutely right – it’s all part of the process.

  5. I’ve been doing several long runs recently in preparation for my “Drei-Länder-Marathon” in Bregenz / Bodensee in October. Sometimes, they flow and sometimes I wonder how on earth I will survive a marathon.
I guess we just have to trust the process – it’ll work out in the end!

    1. Yes! Trust the process. You know that more than most! ;)

  6. One thought about your run- what did you eat? Do you think you could have been low on calories? Anyway- we’ve all been there. Not all runs are going to feel great and that’s okay. It’s great that you finished the run regardless of how you felt. You’ll probably have some amazing runs in nice cool weather coming up!

    1. Thanks for the suggestion, Jenny – you know I was thinking about fueling and I basically had the same as last week when everything went well. I might have been a bit dehydrated though, come to think of it. Also, Coco gave me a thought that it could have had to with where I am at in my cycle.

  7. I adore you so much, friend. You have a tough run and just shrug it off as part of the training process. I would have spiraled into the idea that I was terrible at everything! I should learn to be more like you!

    1. Aww, thanks Engie. It’s not easy in the moment to not question everything, but I have enough experience by now that I know these type of “bad” runs are bound to happen. They’re not fun, but oh well.

  8. As you know, gotta have the bad runs to make the good ones feel so much better! Well done on all of the workouts this week.

    1. Yes, that is 100% the truth!

  9. Your resilience is inspiring, San. Wow. You are doing an amazing job. <3
