2023 Weekly Run Down 50/52 – Christmas Lights Walk!

I am linking up again for the Weekly Run Down with Kim and Deborah.

I had a good week with many fun holiday-themed classes with friends. I also got out for my annual Christmas Lights Walk in our neighborhood. I always look forward to it every year. We live a block from the streets with the nice, big houses and there’s always a lot to see. Some neighbors really go all out with the decorations and people come from all over to see the decorations in our neighborhood. (I admit, our outdoor holiday decoration is negligible).

This week also was a wrap for the last PZ Challenge (Must See PZ) for this year and I am looking forward to a little break over the holidays (but don’t you worry, the next PZ Challenge is already scheduled for January).

Monday

  • 30 Min Holiday Glutes & Legs Strength – Callie (12/23/22) — Instructor Bingo
  • 5 Min Holiday Warm Up Ride – Benny (12/5/23)
  • 30 Min Power Zone Endurance Pop Ride – Matt (6/29/22) — PZ-W6R1/Instructor Bingo
  • 5 Min Post-Ride Stretch – Tunde (11/30/23) — Stretch into the Holidays
  • 20 Min Janet Jackson Pilates – Aditi (9/28/23) — Personal Streak/Core Snowball Challenge/Instructor Bingo

I started the morning with 30 minutes Holiday Glutes & Legs with Lindsay and Sherry. I was surprised how fast the 30 minutes went by. I expected it to feel much longer.
The PZE ride I did afterward was fun – we played with different cadences today (something that Matt usually doesn’t do). My happy cadence is around 90, but it’s been good practice to try holding zone 3 at a lower cadence.

Tuesday

  • 10 Min Barre: Upper Body – Hannah (3/20/23) — DecemBARRE/Instructor Bingo
  • 30 Min Bootcamp: Core – Jess (12/8/23) — PZ-W6AR/Slay Bootcamp/Core Snowball Tracker/Instructor Bingo
  • 30 Min Holiday Ride – Ally (12/10/23)
  • 10 Min Full Body Stretch – Callie (6/28/23)
  • 10 Min Focus Flow: Twists – Kirra (5/10/22) — Stretch into the Holidays/Personal Streak/Instructor Bingo

Sherry and I started the morning with some upper-body Barre. Let’s just say, I didn’t know my shoulders could burn that much without even using weights. Then Lindsay joined us for a core bootcamp, followed by Ally’s Holiday Ride. I have two more holiday classes left to earn gold for the 2023 Peloton Holiday Challenge.

Wednesday

  • 15 Min Pop Punk Pilates – Aditi (12/12/23) — Core Snowball Challenge/Personal Streak
  • 20 Min Arms & Shoulders – Andy (2/22/23) — Lift those Snowballs
  • 30 Min Bootcamp: Upper Body – Callie (3/1/22) — PZ-W6AR/Slay Bootcamp
  • 30 Min Power Zone Endurance 80s Ride – Ben (8/6/23) — PZ-W6R2
  • 10 Min Liverpool FC Full Body Stretch – Joslyn (11/27/23)

Lindsay, Sherry, and I started the day off with some Pilates. I got an arms & shoulders strength class for one of my trackers out of the way and then met up with the ‘bootcamp babes’ (#BCBabes) again for an advanced upper body bootcamp. I also finished week 6, ride 2 of the Power Zone Pack “Must See PZ” Challenge, and counted the bootcamp as the “accelerator” class (which earns bonus points) for my team.

Thursday

  • 10 Min Arms & Light Weights – Camila (10/19/23) — Lift those Snowballs/Instructor Bingo
  • 10 Min Core Strength for Runners – Becs (10/3/23) – “Favorites of 2023” Stack Exchange
  • 15 Min Pop Punk Barre – Ally (12/13/23) – DecemBARRE
  • 5 Min Warm Up Ride – Denis (12/12/23)
  • 30 Min Holiday Ride – Leanne (12/3/23)
  • 5 Min Holiday Post-Ride Stretch – Sam (12/14/22)

Today was my office day and therefore a low-impact day for me. I put some short strength training sessions in my stack and then joined the #BCBabes for a low-key holiday ride with Leanne. Festive and fun. I also earned the Peloton ‘gold’ badge in the Holiday 2023 Challenge (10 holiday classes in December).

Friday

  • 10 Min Yoga Conditioning Core – Mariana (8/16/23) — Core Snowball Challenge
  • 30 Min Soundtrack Strength Club – Callie (12/4/23)
  • 30 Min Holiday Ride – Tunde (12/11/22)
  • 15 min AFO Ride – Emma (7/1/21) — Favorites of 2023 Stack Exchange
  • 20 min Barre Mariah Carrey – Ally (12/2/22) — DecemBARRE/Personal Streak
  • 10 Min Hip Mobility – Adrian (11/7/23) — Stretch into the Holidays

I took one of Callie’s Soundtrack Strength Club classes and another Holiday Ride with the #BCBabes this morning. So fun! I also started working on my “Favorites of 2023” Stack that a fellow streaker, Amy, put together for me. I loved Becs’ core class (which I took yesterday) and Emma’s AFO Ride. I have to admit, I didn’t know the band “The Tragically Hip”, but I really enjoyed the playlist, so that was a nice ‘new-to-me’ class!

Saturday

  • 45 Min Holiday Walk – Matty (12/9/23)
  • 30 Min Holiday Walk – Jon (12/16/22)
  • 20 Min Holiday Walk – JJ (12/7/23)
  • 5 Min Standing Yoga – Denis (3/30/21) — Personal Streak

I was going to go for a run but ended up taking an active rest day and decided to do my “Christmas Lights” walk around our neighborhood. Since we’re going to travel for the holidays next weekend, I realized that I didn’t have too many days left to do my walk and I love it so much every year.

Sunday

  • 10 Min Warm Up Ride – Erik (1/23/22)
  • 45 Min PZE – Matt (7/22/23) — PZ-W6R3
  • 10 Min Low Impact – Matt (4/24/23)
  • 10 Min ALW Ally 12/12/23 — Lift those Snowballs
  • 10 Min Chest & Back Strength (Tunde) 1/17/23 — Lift those Snowballs
  • 10 Min Full Body Stretch – JJ (12/13/22)
  • 20 Min Restorative Yoga – Kristin (11/22/20) — Personal Streak/Instructor Bingo
  • 10 Min Happiness Meditation – Kristin (10/10/23) — Stretch into the Holidays
  • 10 Min Standing Yoga – Chelsea (3/1/22) — Instructor Bingo

I finished up the “Must See PZ” Power Zone Challenge this morning. I opted for the 45-minute Power Zone Endurance ride and not the FTP test. I am still pretty happy with my zones. Matt made us do some work out of the saddle today. What is up with that? Haha. As much as I love PZ Challenges, I am kinda glad to be done for now … until January, when the next challenge starts! I also checked off a few more classes for my strength trackers and joined a few Streakers for “Serenity Sunday” (yoga and meditation) in the late afternoon.

Current Challenges + Trackers:

Streaker365 Core Snowball Challenge
Streaker365 DecemBarre
Streaker365 Slay Bootcamp
Streaker365
Lift those Snowballs Strength Tracker

Streaker365 December Personal Streak (Daily Yoga/Pilates/Barre)
Pelotrak Instructor Bingo (weekly) – 1 bingo

I made a good dent in my trackers this week but didn’t coordinate very well with my bingo card – I only got one bingo this week. Oh well. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out. I am not sweating it.

This week’s stats:

Walking: 5.8 mi
Cycling: 58.3 mi
Bootcamp: 60 min
Strength: 120 min
Yoga/Pilates/Barre: 125 min
Warm up + Stretching: 70 min
Meditation: 10 min

How did your week go? Do you go look at the Christmas Lights in your neighborhood?

  1. Your Christmas Lights Walk certainly had some beautiful displays showcased! I got to see a bunch of holiday lights last week, at the ugly sweater run (Thursday evening). There’s another similar run this week, in another nearby town, I’m hoping to get to as well ;-)

  2. PS…great job on all those challenges!

  3. I have a lot of questions about your holiday lights walk. What is you stance on inflatables? Colored versus white lights? People who pay professionals to put up their lights? Please give me details on these questions!

  4. Those lights! Wow!!

I tend to not love inflatables, but the slide is so creative and fun! Love it (and my kids would, too).

We basically have zero outside decorations and I do have a small dream to one day hire someone to actually decorate our home exterior. I suspect I’ll never actually do it and don’t really feel like there are services like that where we live? But I would love to one year – just one year – have our exterior feel as cheerful and cozy as the interior. My husband is NOT the outdoor decor type of guy, so it would fall to me and I’m just not doing it – ha! So a wreath on the door + seeing our indoor tree through the front window is it. Thankfully, we don’t live in a neighbourhood where other’s go all-out, so I don’t feel too bad.

  5. Omg those houses are so beautiful! Can you imagine how much work it is to get them decorated like that? I’m guessing most of them hire someone to do it- but either way, I always appreciate the fact that people go to so much effort, really for the sake of others. I mean you can’t see your own lights when you’re in the house, so it’s all the people passing by who benefit from it.
Sounds like you had a great week! I love all those holiday themed classes.

  6. Such lovely houses! I love it!

  7. I love the Christmas light pics! We have not driven around to look at Christmas lights yet. I need to wait until I’m past the isolation period to get in the car with my family… but maybe later in the week we can as I’ll be in the clear then.

  8. Wow, you have some good lights near your house! I did a nice light view the other night with my parents and they loved it. If you ever come to Oakland during the holidays you have to go walk around the Mormon Temple (the one that sits up at the top of the hill) as they really do a great job decorating and you get a view of the city!

  9. Always amazed by all the Christmas decorations in the neigborhood. They are going all out.

  10. San, this was a joy to read on Christmas day. Thank you for sharing these beautiful lights with us! (And to you, for being a light in the community. :>)
