5: 2023 Weekly Run Down 44/52 – Hello November

I am doing NaBloPoMo this month. 30 blog posts in 30 days. Come join me. #nablopomo2023

I am linking up again for the Weekly Run Down with Kim and Deborah.

Is it dark and cold now where you are when you get up in the morning? Ugh. It’s so much harder for me to get out of bed in the morning when it’s still dark outside and so cozy under my blanket. I will also pose a challenge to getting my runs in during the week (as I refuse to run in the dark outside). I’ll have to come up with a new routine for the next few months.

I am indifferent when it comes to daylight saving times and at least we’re changing the clock this week and will have a temporary reprieve from the dark mornings, but then again, it will be dark early in the afternoon and it will feel like it’s time to go to bed when I finish work. I am really not looking forward to this aspect of this season.

November is going to be fun though. You guys know I like to stay busy, so I am excited for a bunch of new Streakers365 challenges and trackers (see below), Pelotrak Bingo, and a new  Power Zone Pack Challenge starting next week.

Monday

  • 20  Min Yin Yoga – Denis (10/10/23) — Instructor Bingo
  • 30 Min Boot Camp: Upper Body – Callie (10/13/23)
  • Extra 10: Low Impact – Tunde (8/28/23) — Instructor Bingo
  • 30 Min Halloween Run – Becs (10/29/23)
  • 20 Min 90s Run – Becs (4/15/22)
  • 5 Min Post-Ride Stretch – Adrian (10/2/23)

I did get myself out of bed to wake up with some yoga. Then I had planned to join Sherry, Lindsay, and Kirstin for an upper body boot camp. And thank goodness, it’s always good to know there are others waiting for you on the other side of the screen.

When it was finally light outside, I headed out for my obligatory Halloween run through our neighborhood to take *all the pictures*  of the awesome Halloween decorations. Our neighbors go all out – check my post from yesterday if you missed it.

Tuesday

  • 15 Min Pop Pilates – Anna (10/19/23) — Instructor Bingo
  • 10 Min Core Strength – Adrian (4/21/22) – Instructor Bingo
  • 20 Min Halloween Ride – Bradley (10/30/23)
  • Extra 10: Intervals Ride – Camila (1/3/23) — Instructor Bingo
  • 5 Min Post-Ride Stretch – Camila (9/28/23)

I put together a fun little stack for Halloween morning before I headed out for an out-of-town work meeting.

Wednesday

  • 15 Min Pop Barre – Ally (11/1/23) — NovemBarre/I am Thankful A-Z/Instructor Bingo
  • 10 Min Warm Up Ride – Matt (10/10/23)
  • 15 Min Hip Hop Ride – Alex T (12/24/20) — Barkle Riders Cup/Instructor Bingo
  • 5 Min Cool Down Ride – Tunde (9/15/23)
  • 5 Min Post-Ride Stretch – Ben (11/1/23) — Thank Your Body

It’s the beginning of a new month and we’re starting a set of new and exciting trackers for  November. As always, it’s hard to not want to do them all, so we’ll see what I can accomplish!

I hopped into Ally’s Live Barre Class with Sherry and Lindsay this morning and then Sherry and I warmed up to take Alex’ 15-minute Hip Hop Class for the Barkle Riders Cup! (You’re matched with another racer with a similar FTP range and try to win against that rider in a 15-minute race.)

Thursday

  • 10 Min Focus Flow: Core – Kirra (11/8/21) — Planksgiving/Personal Streak/Instructor Bingo
  • Flash 15 – Jess S (9/27/22) — I am Thankful A-Z
  • 30 Min Country Ride – Denis LIVE (11/2/23)
  • 5 Min Post-Ride Stretch – Denis (7/11/23)

I started out with focus flow for the core with Kirra this morning. She’s a hard instructor and her intermediate flows can be challenging, even though I’ve been doing yoga for a while. This was a beginner flow and felt just right.

I then joined Lindsay for a quick Flash 15 workout and then hopped on Denis’ LIVE Country Ride with Sherry. He played a fun mix of country songs, and there was even a song that lent itself to waltz (and if you know Denis, you know he likes to waltz).

Friday

  • 30 Min Pop Punk Pilates LIVE – Kristin (11/3/23) — 650th Strength/I am Thankful A-Z/Planksgiving/Personal Streak
  • 20 Min Janet Jackson Ride – Erik (9/28/23) — Instructor Bingo
  • 20 Min Arms & Shoulders Strength – Rebecca (10/27/23) — Lift the Turkey
  • 10 Min Body Appreciation Stretch – Chelsea (9/27/23) — Thank Your Body

I celebrated my 650th strength class with a Live Pop Punk Pilates. The playlist was excellent (love me some punk music), I celebrated my milestone together with Lindsay (she hit 1650 classes) and we both got a shoutout from Kristin. Win-win!

Saturday

  • 60 Min Power Walk – Matty (10/14/23) — Instructor Bingo
  • 10 Min Focus Flow: Hips – Chelsea (3/29/23) — I am Thankful A-Z/Personal Streak/Thank Your Body/Instructor Bingo
  • 10 Min Arms & Shoulders Strength – Selena (8/7/21) — Lift the Turkey
  • 15 Min Core Strength – Emma (9/23/22) — Planksgiving/Instructor Bingo

My Saturday went a little differently than planned. I stayed up unusually late (for me) on Friday night and ended up skipping the Streakers365 Swarm Ride at 7 a.m. that I originally had planned to attend. I opted for a nice long walk with Jon in the afternoon instead and managed to complete a small stack of yoga and strength classes in the evening.

Sunday

  • 5 Min Pre-Run Warm Up – JJ (10/31/23)
  • 30 Min HIIT Run – Matt (8/17/23) — Instructor Bingo
  • Extra 10: Walk – Joslyn (9/25/23) — Instructor Bingo
  • 15 Min Pop Walk – Jon (5/10/23) — Instructor Bingo
  • 15 Min Climb Ride – Kendall (2/15/21) — Instructor Bingo
  • Extra 10: Low Impact Ride – Ben (10/20/22) — Instructor Bingo
  • 15 Min Focus Flow: Core – Mariana (2/18/23) — Personal Streak/Planksgiving
  • 5 Min Basics: Body Scan Meditation – Nico (10/25/23) — I am Thankful A-Z/Thank Your Body

In the morning, I headed out for a 30-minute HIIT run with Matt. It was fun to do some intervals again. I had taken a bit of a break from intervals since my half marathon last month.

Back home I attempted another PR in Kendall’s 15-minute Climb Ride, but I didn’t beat my output from Alex’ Hip Hop Ride on Tuesday and ended up submitting that result for the Barkle Riders Cup Race! We’ll find out tomorrow if I beat the rider that I was matched with.

What are you excited about in November?
  1. Thanksgiving!! That is the exciting thing in November. Also, I can do some very tiny things to prepare for Christmas, like ordering our ornament and getting an advent calendar. Fun stuff!

    1. Yes, the holiday season is upon us!

  2. Yay on the shoutout and the Peloton milestone this week. I find it hard to do a live class when I hit a milestone. Clearly, I am not the planner you are! Impressive number of challenges . Have a great week!

    1. Haha, honestly, the only milestones I usually have on my radar are the rides (congrats on 950 btw!!) and it was total coincidence that I managed to realize that I had a strength milestone and scheduled a live class. I know I seem organized, but not THAT organized.

  3. I’m in awe how you keep track of all those challenges. Simply amazed! Congrats on the 650 milestone!!

    1. Thanks so much, friend. I appreciate it :)

  4. Congrats on your strength milestone and yay for getting a shoutout!
As a morning exerciser, I’m so glad we turned back the clocks. I don’t like driving home from work in the dark, but that just gives me motivation to leave the office early (and then work more from home).
November is my birthday and then Thanksgiving, so lots to celebrate. ;-)

    1. Oh yeah, happy (early?) birthday and I am excited about the holiday season too!

  5. I don’t like falling back now that I have kids because it means an extra hour of parenting or extra hours ahead of the time change as we push their bedtimes back for several days so they aren’t up at 5 after falling back. I seem to be the only person who doesn’t like falling back/springing ahead. I would rather just stay in DST! The extra morning light doesn’t help me since I won’t workout in the morning except for days when I WFH and it’s 7am by the time I workout on those days. And I don’t like how it gets dark earlier. But soon it will be dark when we leave for work and when we come home!

Nice work on your workouts! I am still battling a bad cough. I tried to run this weekend but gave up after a mile since I was coughing so much. Hopefully my cough improves soon so I can get back to working out.

    1. I can see ho falling back in the fall really has no benefits for you – with kids (that need to adjust) and no use for lighter morning hours, I understand that it’s more an annoyance than anything. I wouldn’t mind staying at the same time year round, to be honest.

  6. I am excited to have my college kids back home in November! I was super excited about waking up to sunlight this morning, but now that it’s dark at 5:30 pm I’m not so excited LOL!
Great job on all of your workouts this week!

    1. Oh yay, I can imagine it’s nice to have the kids come home for the holidays :)

  7. I want to decorate for Christmas extra early this year, because we are going to Mexico for Christmas. So even though we won’t even be home to enjoy it ON Christmas (or after, either…. sad….), it’s something that I just love so much! Part of me thinks that since we have so much going on + puppy, I should just totally skip all of that this year. But I do really love it. So I don’t know. I guess what I’m looking forward to in November is figuring that out, and then decorating, IF I go that route. :)

    1. That’s a dilemma… with the decorating, I mean. I would probably do it early, especially if you’re traveling over the actual holidays. Gotta make the most of it ;)

  8. A great, active week as always! Planksgiving – I love that. I’ve totally forgotten about planks recently, probably because I haven’t been able to do them for so long. But I plan to re-implement a core workout on Sundays so I’ll bring them back for sure.

    1. I have a love-hate relationship with planks ;)

  9. Congratulations on your 650th strength class! The challenges look like fun.
I really want to get back into running – many excuses – but in a nutshell my energy levels haven’t been where they should be.
It is summer here at the moment and the festive season is around the corner so I’m looking forward to that.

    1. Thank you. The challenges are a lot of fun. And my advice to get back into running: start small. It’s hard to get back after a while, but you can do it.

  10. You are such a superstar! Look at all those workouts and milestones!

    1. You’re too kind, Suzanne. Thank you.

  11. Sounds like you had a great week! The Halloween classes were probably really fun- congrats on your milestone class and yay for the shoutout!
i do like turning the clocks back (not ahead! I don’t like that part in the spring.) I would rather have more daylight in the morning than the evening. I was very happy that the sun rose during my run today!

    1. I can see how you would also like more daylight in the morning … but it won’t last for long, sadly.

  12. It is dark in the morning but even more so at night. It starts around 4.30 pm so yeah not so great. I also realized that the walkway by the river is not lit which makes it not an option for me to use getting groceries. So now I have to plan that during lunch or something. Evening walks can only be in the little neighborhood now as everything else is dark and woods and such and I don’t feel comfortable walking there in the dark.

    1. Ugh, I know, the days are getting so short :( And I totally understand that you don’t feel comfortable walking by the river in the dark… you’ll have to do some reorganizing to get groceries.

  13. Ah, the darkness. It doesn’t matter to me, because I exercise indoors year-round (sigh). But, for you, I can see why it’s an issue. I would advocate for putting a “meeting” on your calendar so you can exercise in the daylight, if it starts cutting into your workday. :) Also hope that the reason you were up late Friday was not a bad one, if that makes sense. Take care…

    1. You’re one smart cookie, Anne. Putting a “meeting” on the calendar, so I can exercise during daylight hours is a genius idea.
The reason I stayed up late on Friday wasn’t a bad one – I listened to music with Jon all night and I had a screwdriver (and I never drink LOL). Oops.

  14. The fact that you got a shout out is SO cool!!

    1. Thank you – I thought so too :)

  15. Nice job on your workouts last week! I actually love running in the early morning before daylight when it’s so peaceful and I have the world to myself. I do stay within my little neighborhood where I feel very safe, though.

I love Thanksgiving, decorating for Christmas, and celebrating my birthday, so I have lots to look forward to in November! :-)

  16. Congrats on your milestone! How fun to get a shout-out!
