10: 2024 Weekly Run Down 45/52 – Work Travel and a (Test) Race

This week’s stats:

Running: 31.4 mi
Strength: 30 min
Yoga/Pilates/Barre: 50 min
Warm up/Stretching: 30 min
Meditation: 55 min

I am linking up again for the Weekly Run Down with Kim and Deborah.

I was gone on a work trip from Tuesday to Friday this week and I was about to ask my coach again to rearrange my training plan to accommodate my work commitments but realized that it would be futile as I knew I wasn’t going to be able to get my workouts in while I was away. I knew we would have long days with evening commitments. The hotel (Inn) that we were staying at also didn’t have a gym, so I knew it would be unlikely for me to be able to do any runs.

Since I have been very disciplined with my training execution so far, I just rolled with it and hoped that skipping a few workout sessions would not negatively affect me. In fact, I hoped that taking a few rest days would maybe even be good for me before my 20-miler training race that was happening on Sunday. (Spoiler alert: it was!)

Monday

  • 30 Min Flow and Let Go – Aditi (10/26/23) — Self-Gratitude/Personal Streak
  • 15 Min Sleep Meditation – Kristin (3/15/24)

Rest days are for yoga flows and meditation!

Tuesday

  • 5 Min Pre-Run Warm Up – Rebecca (7/17/24)
  • 55 Min Easy Run
    • 10 Min Pre-Run Warm Up – Matt (5/21/19) — Road to 26.2
    • 45 Min Tempo Run – Matt (6/5/19) — Road to 26.2
  • 30 Min Strength for Runners – Rebecca (9/23/22) — Road to 26.2

I completed 6 easy miles and a 30-minute strength training in the morning before getting ready for my work trip. I picked up a vehicle from work and then was on my way up to Oregon for my work conference.

Wednesday

  • 10 Min Gratitude Meditation – Anna (10/16/24) — Self-Gratitude
  • 40 Min Just Walk: Outdoor

I started my day with a meditation session, met up with my colleague and then we walked to the location of the conference we were attending. The location was about a mile away, but we took a little bit of a detour to get coffee.

Thursday

  • 10 Min Gratitude Meditation – Kristin (12/13/23) — Self-Gratitude
  • 17 Min Just Walk: Outdoor

Meditation and a short walk were all the movements I was going to get in today because we had dinner plans with the other attendees in the evening.

Friday

  • 10 Min Gratitude Meditation – Ross (11/21/23) — Self-Gratitude
  • 30 Min Just Walk: Outdoor
  • 75 Min Just Walk: Outdoor

I started my day with another meditation. Today was our “field trip” day, so we did quite a bit of walking at two different sites that we visited. In the early afternoon, I got in the car to make the 5-hour drive back to Sacramento.

Saturday

  • 5 Min Warm Up
  • 45 Min 80s Run – Susie (10/8/24)
  • 5 Min Stretch

I felt a little uneasy about the fact that I skipped three training sessions from my training plan this week. I went out for a 45-minute shakeout run before my race on Sunday to test my legs. They felt pretty good and that made me feel better.

Sunday

  • 10 Min Warm Up
  • 20-mile run Run the Parkway (Test Race)
    • 90 Min Rock Run – Susie (9/21/23)
    • 90 Min 2010s Run – Mariana (5/2/24)
  • 5 Min Stretch
  • 20 Min Restorative Yoga – Kirra (9/13/21) — Serenity Sunday
  • 10 Min Gratitude Meditation – Ross (6/25/23) — Serenity Sunday

Today was the “Run the Parkway 20-miler”, the Official Training Run of the CIM (California International Marathon). The pacers were going to run the full 20-mile distance at the same pace as they would run the marathon at CIM, so we were able to practice our goal pace. I am going to write a separate recap for this race, but I do want to say that this test race went great for me and I exceeded my pace expectations! I was so stoked!

Current Challenges + Trackers:

This week was tough on the tracker front. I managed to fill my gratitude jar with some more instructors, but I neglected my personal (yoga) tracker. I just didn’t have much time for anything when I was traveling for work. Oh well, I’ll pick it up again next week.

  1. I am thrilled you got to run a training race. And can I admit I am not at all surprised you knocked it out of the park?!
Can’t wait to read all about it <3

  2. San, this is awesome! You are going to be SO PREPARED for your marathon! Don’t worry about missing a workout here and there. As you probably know, I just ran 27 in a race after only completing a 15 mile long run in training. Not something that I would actually recommend, but the point is- you can do more than you think, even if your training isn’t 100%. I would say yours is at 99.9% so you are going to crush your race!

  3. You’re doing such a good job training. I’m so proud of you!

  4. Huge congrats on your 20 miler! I saw your IG! Perhaps taking those few days off of running before the race is your key to success.

  5. I’m so glad you got to run a training race! Of course, you crushed it, even with those few days off! I love that so much and I can’t wait to see how you do for the real thing!

  9. Yay! I can’t wait to read about your test race! Your trackers are so fun.

  10. Don’t they say, if you do about 80% of the training you’ll be good? I’m sure the few days missed will not be a problem at all. I can’t wait to hear about your training race.

  11. You have really rocked your training season! Missing a few days is not a big deal, in the grand scheme of ALL the other miles you’ve logged. Go you!!

  12. I’m so glad that your training run went so well!

  13. That training race sounds so perfect! Glad it went well.
