This week’s stats:

Running: 32.3 mi
Cycling: 11.6 mi
Bootcamp: 75 min
Strength: 125 min
Yoga/Pilates/Barre: 85 min
Warm up/Stretching: 35 min

I am linking up again for the Weekly Run Down with Kim and Deborah.

Monday

  • 20 Min Upper Body Strength – Erik (7/24/24)
  • 20 Min Yoga Flow for Runners – Kristin (10/31/23) — Personal Streak
  • 10 Min Core Strength – JJ (8/6/24) — Ab-versity

Rest day! Tanja joined me for some strength training and yoga in the morning. We both really enjoyed Erik’s strength class and the yoga flow for runners.

Tuesday

  • 5 Min Pre-Run Warm Up – Matt (8/14/24)
  • 45 Min Easy Run
    • 10 Min Pre-Run Warm Up – Matt (5/21/19) — Road to 26.2
    • 30 Min Tempo Run – Robin (5/21/19) — Road to 26.2
    • 5 Min Cool Down Run – Joslyn (6/19/24)
  • 30 Min Strength for Runners – Andy (7/1/22) — Road to 26.2
  • 10 Min Focus Flow: Core – Aditi (9/1/22) — Personal Streak/Ab-versity

I started my morning with a 45-minute easy run and added 30 minutes of strength for runners. Unfortunately, Peloton’s “Road to 26.2” program does not perfectly align with my marathon training plan, which wouldn’t be a big deal if I could switch the order of the classes. Unfortunately, they must be taken in order to get “credit” for them. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I will give Peloton some feedback about that. It would be nice if you could make the classes fit better into your personal schedule.

Wednesday

  • 5 Min Pre-Run Warm Up – Rebecca (7/4/23)
  • 55 Min Hill Run
    • 10 in Pre-Run Warm Up – Becs (5/21/19) — Road to 26.2
    • 30 Min Marathon Race Prep Run – Matt (5/21/19) — Road to 26.2
    • 15 Min 2000s Rock Run – Jon (8/12/24)
  • 20 Min 90s Ride – Sam (8/5/24)
  • 5 Min Post-Ride Stretch – Sam (8/13/24)
  • 10 Min Pilates – Kristin (3/17/23) — Personal Streak/Ab-versity

I had hill repeats on my training schedule today and if you’ve been to Sacramento, you know that it’s pretty flat here. Hill repeats outdoors are tricky. There are a couple of overpasses that can be used in a pinch, but they’re not in my neighborhood and I didn’t have the time (before work) to drive to one. So, I did the best I could and found a street with a gradual incline (probably just 1-2%) and did my hill repeats there. (I think I might have to rearrange my schedule a little bit and join Jon on his gym days, so I can use the treadmill for hill repeats.) Later, I met up with Tanja for a 20-minute 90’s ride to pedal out my legs.

Thursday

  • 10 Min Core Strength – Ben (8/19/24) — Ab-versity
  • 30 Min Strength for Runners – Rebecca (7/1/22) — Road to 26.2
  • 10 Min Yoga for Runners – Kristin (6/5/24) — Personal Streak

For cross-training, I chose some yoga and a strength for runners class from the “Road to 26.2” program today. I really enjoy these focused strength classes.

Friday

  • 5 Min Warm Up Run – Andy (5/14/24)
  • 45 Min Easy Run
    • 20 Min Hip Hop Run – Kirsten (3/4/22) — Road to 26.2
    • 20 Min 90s Rock Ride – JJ (8/21/24)
  • 10 Min Strength Roll Call: Core – Callie (12/14/22)
  • 45 Min Hip Hop Bootcamp – Robin (6/14/24)
  • 5 Min Basic Garland Pose – Kristin (10/26/22) — Personal Streak

I had an easy run on the calendar, followed by some core work and a bootcamp with the #BCBabes. I would have chosen a 30-minute class, but when your friends choose 45 minutes, YOU do the 45 minutes. Haha. Also, do yourself a favor and take the yoga basics class with Kristin. I love garland pose (= deep squat for you none-yoga peeps). I could hang out in it all day.

Saturday

  • 5 Min Pre-Run Warm Up – Rebecca (7/4/23)
  • 10-mile run
    • 45 Min 80s Run – Becs  (8/18/24)
    • 45 min 90s Run – Jon (2/15/24)
    • 10 Min Long Run Warm up – Becs (5/21/19) — Road to 26.2
  • 10 Min Focus Flow: For Runners – Denis (4/9/24)
  • 10 Min Arms & Light Weights – Denis (4/18/24)

It rained over night! In August. That’s so rare. The air was nice and cool when I left the house but the humidity was up, I could feel it.
Saturdays are my long run days in this training cycle and mileage is ramping up this week. Today was 100% mental, my legs felt fine, and 10 miles still feel like a familiar distance though. Don’t be confused that my warm up run was at the end. I forgot to start with it and added it as my cool down instead (to get credit for it in the Road to 26.2 program.) Denis’ focus flow for runners was a real nice way to cool down and stretch.

Sunday

  • 5 Min Pre-Run Warm Up – Rebecca (7/17/24)
  • 55 Min Easy Run
    • 45 Min Endurance Run – Mariana (7/2/24)
    • Extra 10: Endurance (5/20/24)
  • 30 Min Bootcamp: Upper Body – Tunde (8/6/24) — ABCs Bootcamp
  • 5 Min Cool Down Ride – Tunde (8/22/24)
  • 5 Min Core Strength – Rebecca (8/9/24) — Ab-versity
  • 20 Min Restorative – Kristin (9/5/21) — Serenity Sunday/Personal Streak
  • 10 Min Energizing Meditation – Kristin (1/9/24) — Serenity Sunday/Back to Bliss

I got up early to get my easy run done. My Garmin was acting up again. This time it was the GPS (I could tell from the route map), which also messed with my pace. I swear, I ran pretty steady the whole time, but the first mile seemed fast and then the pace drop in mile 2/3 was strange. Does your Garmin act up sometimes? Granted, my Garmin is 8 years old, but it’s been pretty reliable, for the most part. Every now and then it does weird things though.

When I got back from my run, I met up with Tanja, Lindsay, and Sherry for an Upper Body Bootcamp. Tunde didn’t mess around (does she ever?) and left us breathless and sweaty by the end. It was a good class though. I finished my Sunday once again with yoga + meditation.

Current Challenges + Trackers:

Fitting in the classes for the trackers is a bit of a challenge for me right now and I realize that I will probably have to pair it down a little in September. I have to accept that I cannot do everything. (Surprise!)

Does your smartwatch go awry sometimes? I am a little annoyed.

  1. Looks like your running is going really well! As always a great mix of classes done. My Garmin was sending SOS messages to my family this week and I was not even using it or wearing it at the time!

    1. Oh, so it’s not just my Garmin acting up sometimes ;)

  2. Great job! Yeah, I can see how not being able to take those Peloton classes out of order would be kind of annoying. But you’re making it all work. I love the mix of strength and yoga as well- you are crushing this training so far!
Oh, i have the same problem as you with hills. It is FLAT here. I could also go to some overpasses, but it’s not convenient. In the past I’ve just done hill repeats on the treadmill.

    1. Thank you, Jenny. I really try to keep things interesting and fun.

  3. Oh, that is so annoying! I hate when my tech goes wonky! That being said, you really did have a great week! I am always amazed that you get everything all in. And August is our rainy season! Funny how it’s the opposite!

    1. Thanks Jenn. It was a good week and I try to keep things fun and interesting. So funny to hear that August is your rainy season… but then you also get all the humidity with it. Eek.

  4. Are the Road to 26.2 classes (the running ones) something that is for outdoor runs, or indoors with the instructor/video? Oh boo, the Garmin is acting up again! My watch has been pretty rock solid. The GPS will be a little wonky in the woods, but my running is pretty much always on the path/roads so not an issue.

    1. The Road to 26.2 is designed to be taken outdoors. All the run classes are “audio” only, but the strength classes are with video.

  5. Tech. Great when it works. Stinks when it doesn’t (and we are used to it working). Sigh. Hope it all straightens itself out.
