I enthusiastically said that I would join Elisabeth’s Cool Bloggers Walking Club again in April, and then April had other plans for me. I got sick at the end of last week and haven’t moved much at all over the weekend.
BUT, if I have learned one thing through my 1560+ day Peloton Streak is that every little bit of movement and mindfulness counts and that even if I missed a few days already, the important thing is to keep going. Progress > perfection!
I stayed home from work today because I am still coughing up a storm, but I felt a little better, so I decided to lace up my sneakers and get out for a little walk around the neighborhood. It was a beautiful spring day and getting some fresh air is never a bad idea.
I have not taken a lot of intentional walks during this first week of the month, so I looked back at my step count. 10 minutes of walking equals about 0.5 mi, so even though I wasn’t intentional for all these steps, I still got 10 minutes (or more) of walking done every day. So, that’s great.
Tuesday, April 1
3,673 steps – 1.77 mi
Wednesday, April 2
4,736 steps – 2.23 mi
Thursday, April 3
6,251 steps – 2.84 mi
I went for a lunchtime walk with my co-worker, which bumped my step count for the day a bit.
Friday, April 4
2,438 steps – 1.11 mi
This is where I got sick and didn’t move much at all.
Saturday, April 5
1,100 steps – 0.51 mi
Even less movement.
Sunday, April 6
2,525 steps – 1.19 mi
Felt slightly better, so I did get up and moved around a little more.
Monday, April 7
5,307 steps – 2.4 mi
I felt even a little better, and so I went for an intentional walk outside! Yay. We have a couple of art installations in our new neighborhood. In one of the small parks, there are a total of five bronze sculptures that were created by Helen Post between 1972 and 1997. She was a local Sacramento artist, who died in 2010.
Here are four of them. I am trying to find information about them because I find them kind of haunting. Just me?

Total steps count for week 1: 26,030 steps
This was not impressive at all, but that means it can only go up from here!
Keep moving, friends!

April 8, 2025 at 2:06 amI am so proud of you, San! That 26,000 steps is equivalent to a marathon with everything you’ve faced lately. Gold stars, friend.

April 8, 2025 at 4:41 amI love public art!
You have had it rough, my friend. I’m proud of you for just getting up and out! Every step counts.

April 8, 2025 at 6:35 amI’m glad you felt well enough to get out and take a walk thru the neighborhood. I’m trying to figure out what the art piece is supposed to be that’s the top right. It looks like the Beast from Beauty and the Beast – a rear view of him. No? It’s really cold here, but I did start the month with plenty of walking in Italy. We walked 6-10 miles a day. Next week will warm up and I hope to take my little guys out for some walks.

April 9, 2025 at 1:15 pmI am trying to figure out this art… the one of the top right is a figure with a “bird mask”(?) wrapped in a cloak. Weird.

April 8, 2025 at 7:45 amIt seems like everyone has started off the month sick but regardless, has still managed to get some steps in. Hope you recover soon and get back to normal.

April 8, 2025 at 1:48 pmYou get two miles a day without doing any intentional walking? That is impressive. I get about half a mile. LOL.

April 9, 2025 at 1:16 pmYou get half a mile? Do you have to stop with Hannah at every corner? LOL

April 8, 2025 at 4:38 pmThe art installation is very interesting, and I agree, haunting. I’d love to know more about them. It’s fun to see stuff like that. My town has large sculptures of fish here and there. It was a fundraising effort many years ago, and the fish are still looking good.

April 9, 2025 at 1:16 pmI love random art… I just wish it was easier to find more information about it sometime.

April 9, 2025 at 3:19 pmWow, San – you took a lot of steps for someone who was mostly on the couch for 2.5 days. I’m impressed! I get most of my steps schlepping from my parking ramp to my building and back again, although I get a fair number from my early-morning treadmill walks, too. I’m trying to maintain bone density and weight bearing > non weight bearing for that, so… The thing I do LESS of that I need to work on, though, is walking outside. Engie is my role model there. Maybe I need to rent Hannah… :) Hope you are feeling better and moving even more this week. (Also! Random art! So cool! Please update us if you find out anything more, ok?)

April 9, 2025 at 7:08 pmI’m glad you’re on the mend and that you were able to get out for a walk.
Those sculptures are really interesting, and yes, haunting.

April 11, 2025 at 6:49 amMy participation has been pretty pitiful unfortunately. Between work stress and Will having surgery, it’s been harder to fit walks in. We walked to get Paul from school yesterday which was nice and I’m hoping we can walk up to Walgreens later today to get some more pain meds for him.

April 11, 2025 at 9:36 pmNice work! Hey the goal is 10 minutes so even a little bit counts! Some days I just don’t feel like getting out, but I always feel better afterwards. Always!

April 12, 2025 at 11:38 pmYou did so good even though being sick. 26,000 steps!
I was in bed for 4 days with a fever the first week of April and just have slowly gotten back this week with being outside. I used the bike a lot this week so steps are not as good but I am counting that towards the CBWC. yesterday I took a 5km walk in the woods before breakfast. It was nice but I was exhausted when getting back. I may not be as recovered as I had though.
