2023 Weekly Run Down 4/52

I am linking up again for the Weekly Run Down with Kim and Deborah.

I cannot believe we’re already all the way through January. This month has been flying by. I had a pretty solid week though, hitting all my scheduled workouts and target paces. I am quite happy about that (especially in regard to my race pace runs).

But it was cold in California this week. I had a couple of early morning runs and it was frigid (36F/2C). I am not equipped for that and had to seriously layer up. I am not complaining about the blue skies and sunshine that accompanied the cool temperatures though.

But let’s talk about my week:

Monday:
  • 5 Min HIIT Cardio Warm-up – Adrian (11/14/20)
  • 45 Min Power Zone Endurance Ride – CDE (10/4/22)
  • 10 Min Core Strength – Emma (6/7/22)
  • 5 Min Full Body Stretch – Adrian (9/7/22)

Switched out a 4.5-mile base run for a 45 Min Power Zone Endurance Ride. I think the endurance effort was about the same.

Tuesday:
  • 10 Min Pre-Run Warm-up – Matt (9/16/21)
  • 10 Min Warm-Up Ride – Matt (5/26/20)
  • 30 Min Intervals Run – Matt (12/12/22)
  • 15 Min Country Run – Matt (6/10/22)
  • 10 Min Post-Run Stretch – Matt (8/24/20)

I had a race pace run on my training schedule and I am always a bit afraid that I won’t be able to execute, but I was pretty happy that I did.

Wednesday:
  • 10 Min Morning Meditation – Kristin (10/20/22)
  • 30 Min 90’s Walk – Jess S (7/16/21)

I woke up with an achy arm and a slight headache (thanks to the second Covid booster that I received on Tuesday!) and decided against the Upper Body Strength Class that I had originally planned. Instead, I opted for a rest day. Listen to your body, or something like this. It’s what the cool kids do.

Thursday:
  • 5 Min HIIT Cardio Warm-up – Adrian (11/14/20)
  • 30 Min Power Zone Endurance Ride – Matt (11/30/22)
  • 10 Min Core Strength – Matty (1/27/22)
  • 45 Min Pearl Jam Run – Selena (7/3/21)
  • 10 Min Full Body Stretch – JJ (1/12/23)

I started the day with a PZE ride, followed by a 45 min base run. If you haven’t taken Selena’s Pearl Jam Run, you should remedy that. It’s one of my favorite Artist Classes on the platform (disclaimer: I might be biased, #grungegirlatheart).

The sunrise was beautiful but it was so cold!

Friday:
  • 5 Min HIIT Cardio Warm Up – Adrian (11/14/20)
  • 20 Min Upper Body Strength – Rad (11/13/21)
  • 10 Min Kygo Warm Up Ride – Charlotte (1/18/23)
  • 45 Min Endurance Run – Hannah F (11/28/22)
  • 20 Min 2000’s Run – Andy (7/22/22)
  • 20 Min Glutes & Legs Strength – JJ (9/8/22)
  • 10 Min Core Strength – Ben (9/21/22)
  • 10 Min Full Body Stretch – Callie (1/25/23)

It was a bit of a catch-up day because I had slacked on some of the PZPack Groovy Zone Strength Classes. I also had another 7-mile race pace run on the schedule, which was 100% mental work. We all have these days, amirite?

Saturday:
  • 5 Min HIIT Cardio Warm Up – Adrian (11/14/20)
  • 10 Min Linkin Park Warm Up Ride – Bradley (12/14/22)
  • Just Run: Outdoor – 10 miles
  • 10 Min Post-Run Stretch – Hannah F (11/16/22)

The runs are getting longer. I hit double digits for the first time in a while. I used the Peloton “just run”-option for my long run as there’s no outdoor content longer than 60 min. I hope that Peloton will put out more outdoor content. I can use the treadmill classes (and I have) for outdoor runs, but it bugs me that it doesn’t connect to GPS to record the stats (yeah, yeah, even though I use my Garmin to track my run anyway. I am weird like that.)

Sunday:
  • 5 Min HIIT Cardio Warm Up – Adrian (11/14/20)
  • 45 Min Power Zone Endurance Pop Ride – Ben (11/28/22)
  • 5 Min Whitney Houston Cool Down Ride – Leanne (12/21/22)
  • 30 Min Strength Roll Call: Full Body – Rebecca (10/3/22)
  • 10 Min Core Strength – Olivia (8/22/22)
  • 10 Min Fully Body Stretch – Marcel M (3/2/22)

I was able to ride with Tanja and we took advantage. Since I am doing the 2 runs/rides option and she’s doing the 3 rides option, our training plan doesn’t quite line up this time around, but there are a few classes that overlap and so we try to ride those together. We got started on week 3 of the Power Zone Pack Groovy Zones Challenge a day early.

Streakers365 Challenges:

I checked off a few more classes for the “Artist Series” Challenge this week – P for Pearl Jam, K for Kygo, X for Linkin Park (free choice), and Z for Whitney Houston (free choice). Almost done!

This week’s stats:

Running: 26.6 miles
Cycling: 46.8 miles
Strength: 110 min
Walk: 30 min
Warm up + Stretching: 120 min
Meditation: 10 min

How was your week? Is it cold right now where you are?

  1. You got in some great workouts last week! And I hear you, I’d be the same way about wanting my Peloton run to have GPS to go toward my stats.

It’s been a very mild January for us this year. It was 48° yesterday and I was able to run in short sleeves and no gloves!

    1. You ran in short sleeves in 48°? That’s hardcore, Debbie ;)

I wish Peloton had more outdoor content, because it’s hard to otherwise get the miles for the challenges.

  2. Nice week of workouts! That Peloton doesn’t track your outdoor runs would bug me too, even though I use a Garmin as well. I’d want credit for my work, lol!

My sister has a winter house in Palm Desert and it has been cool there too! I’m sure your warmth will return soon. At least I hope so, since I’m planning a trip in a month!

    1. I am glad I am not the only one who is so particular about the stats – haha :)

  3. So we here think of 36 degrees as perfect running temps! Once you got out there, did you feel like you ran better in cooler temps? I have never used the just run option. Running is the only thing I do not use Peloton for. 99% of my runs are w my group and I am too busy chatting away! Nice work this week

    1. In CA, we think of 62 as the perfect running temp, not 36 LOL (but I am getting used to it a little bit, it’s just so cold for my hands and I don’t particularly like running with gloves).

  4. It is FREEZING where I am, LOL. We have a nasty week in the forecast as week, I think the ‘high” will maybe reach 20F most days. BRRR. We do have plenty of sunshine, though, so that definitely makes the cold temps a tiny bit more bearable. Wow, you seriously knock out a lot of Peloton minutes daily and weekly!

    1. Just a little bit of sunshine helps so much!! But yeah, 20 is really cold!

  5. I’m sure all the northerners are saying “36 isn’t cold!” but as a Floridian, I know how cold it feels (for us, when it gets down to the 40s.). We’re not used to it and not used to bundling up for our runs. It must have been beautiful though with all that sunshine! And, nice job on the 10 mile run. It always feels nice to get into the double digits!

    1. You get me, Jenny (although you definitely are even more used to warmer temps down in FL… Northern CA does get cooler in the winter month, but rarely close to freezing!).

  6. Running in the 30s is no joke – you definitely need to layer up, but then you get warmed up and need to start peeling off. I am jealous of your gorgeous blue skies with those temps, though! I want some sun!!!

    1. I definitely am thankful for the blue skies!

  7. You had a great week!

I’m kinda bummed I’m going to be in the San Diego area this week and it’s not going to be warm! I’ll be stuck in conference meetings anyway.

I usually split my long runs with one new tread class and one old outdoor run. Andy has an old 45 min one that’s a favorite.

    1. That’s a good strategy, splitting longer runs with one new tread and one old outdoor run… at least you get a little bit of credit.

Hope San Diego was nice when you were there! ;)

  9. For some reason I had trouble commenting yesterday 9hopefully this won’t be my second comment.) i was trying to commiserate on your cold weather- people up north probably don’t think it’s cold, but it feels cold to us (even 40s feels cold to Floridians) and we don’t have the experience with layering up for a run. It looks beautiful though with the sin and palm trees!
There’s something about hitting double digits that feels so good. It sounds like your training is going great, and nice job on all that stretching!

  10. That is chilly for California! And I do think your blood adjusts to your climate, I ran outside on our ski trip in France and it was SOO cold, but I know back in Minnesota I ran in much colder. It’s all relative. Great job getting out there!

    1. I think you’re right. I grew up in colder climate and was more used to it, but now I am a wuss LOL

  11. Wow you are already doing 10 mile runs for your half training! I feel like you just started training for a race! But you have such a great base level of fitness that getting up to 10 miles isn’t too hard for you! For me, it would take a long time to get there since my base mileage is so low! Well done on the week, though, and that was smart to listen to your body! This was the one covid shot that didn’t bother Phil! None of them have given me a single side effect but he was wiped out by his previous ones so he was pleasantly surprised to not feel like garbage after this most recent one!

I had a pretty good week of workouts. I’ve been able to hit 3-4 workouts consistently this month which hasn’t happened in a long time. But we’ve been healthy which makes a huge difference!

    1. Good catch… I also feel like I just started half training (I started the week before Christmas and I skipped a couple of weeks of the training plan because I started too late, but also have some base fitness, so I felt fine… but my race is coming up in 3 weeks already. Eek!)

I am glad you had a great week of workouts last week, and that you’ve all been healthy! I hope it stays that way!!

  12. It’s gray and wet where I am. Not quite winter, not really spring, just an uninspiring mess of blah. I look forward to the weather making up its mind, be winter OR be spring. Just pick one!

    1. I agree with you, Ally – I deal better with something I know (winter OR spring)… not this weird mix.

  13. What a good training week you had. The Friday program looks absolutely massive!! 2C is cold for a run! I haven’t tried that yet. 5C is the lowest I’ve run in and that was fine.
After a quite cold period here we’re having a nice mild week now with temperatures around 9C and sun mixed with clouds. Definitely pleasant and there’s a spring feel!

    1. Oh, I’d like your 9C with sun, prettyplease :)

  14. I cannot believe how cold it’s been in California lately – I think it may have been colder here than here in Connecticut!

I totally agree with you about Selena’s Pearl Jam run.

    1. Yay, so great you loved the Pearl Jam run, too.

  15. It’s cold and snowy here in Ohio, just the way I like it! Well, except for today, because our furnace went out last night.. but luckily I have a handy husband who is fixing it right now. Yay! I always get nervous about pace runs but then afterwards I am happy with them and they are such confidence boosters when they go right. Great job on your workouts this week!

    1. Oh wow, furnace out in snowy weather = no bueno. I am glad the husband could fix it :) I agree with you about the pace runs… always anxiety-inducing, always mood-boosters! Haha.

  16. Nice week of workouts! That Artist Series Challenge sounds like a fun one! It’s been a while since I’ve taken a class from the Series.

36 is pretty good for New England at this time of year but wow that’s cold for California! It’s good that you had the sunshine. Until recently it’s been pretty gray and dull here.

    1. Thank you Michelle. The Artist Collection is so fun… there’s still so many classes I want to take!

  17. I’m intrigued by the Pearl jam run but also a grunge girl at heart. Also super inspired by your workouts! It must be a big dip in weather with those temps so glad to see you are bundling up!

It’s been relatively mild which is super unusual this time of year in New Jersey. I’m hoping for at least one big snowfall…I can’t believe we haven’t had anything!

    1. Thanks Charlotte. The weather seems to be all kind of unsual everywhere this year. I do hope you get your one big snowfall for the year :)

  18. Wow, great job on your workouts! I still need to get my 2nd Covid Booster, but I need to make it when I don’t work the next day in case of a bad reaction.

    -Lauren

    1. Yeah, you never know how you’re going to react to the booster… although I never had side effects really. Did you have any after the previous one?

      1. No, I don’t think I really did. My mom tends to get side effects though so I’m just cautious. hah

  19. 36 is definitely very cold for CA and it’s hard when you live in an area that’s usually warm so you don’t have the right gear, so good job getting out there!

Yup, it is cold here. But overall it’s been unseasonably warm for us this winter — despite the snow on the ground!

    1. I might have to invest in a few warmer (running) pieces – LOL – just to have them as a backup. ;)

  20. WOW! I love reading about this because it is so far outside the realm of my current fitness possibility but so inspiring!

    1. Thanks Sarah. Keep in mind, I am childfree so definitely have a lot more time than you ;)

  21. Your posts really make me wish I enjoyed running!
