I hope you guys had a great Father’s Day/Ascension Day on Thursday. I am wondering why -in a country where you have so many Catholics- we didn’t have a holiday here as well. Compared to Germany we don’t have many holidays at all, so that’s one more reason for moving back there eventually :) May is always a pretty good month as there are many religious holidays.
Thursday was Father’s Day… but apparently not only fathers, but everyone finds a reason to party that day :) I remember that my softball team always organized “BBQ Day” on our softball field – with a slow pitch tournament and lots of foods and drinks.
Friday I asked Gerald about the visa stuff.. yeah, I finally dared to ask *lol* and his response was “Yeah, I’ve been thinking about that, too” (wow, I am impressed :)) but of course he couldn’t tell me what was going on, so he tried to call Karen, the lady from the administrative office who’s obviously in charge of the whole process (which doesn’t really make me cheerful as she hasn’t been really helpful in the past :( ) Since it was Friday around lunch time, he didn’t reach her… and of course, Gerald is out of the office the whole coming week, which means I might not even get an answer before next week. Just terrific :( it’s not like I have to book a flight or something!
Saturday Jon and I went to IKEA :) The nearest store is in Oakland which is about an hour away… well, an hour when there is no traffic… but Highway 80 has become pretty bad. We had thought about what time would be a good time to leave, but apparently there’s no “good time”. It’s always packed and it took us over two hours to get there :(
Once we were in the IKEA store, I had already forgotten about the traffic… it was awesome. I love IKEA! I am on a mission by the way… I am trying to teach the Americans the proper way of pronouncing that company’s name… it’s not IKEA [ei-kia], but [ikea] – just the way it’s spelled :)
I was curious if it would be the same set up as in Europe and it is! We spent about two hours there and got quite a few nice things… we got some new stuff for our kitchen (as we used to have a motley bunch of plates, cups and silverware), as well as a new desk for our computer (the old one was falling apart) and a nice chest of drawers for all my stationery stuff :)
Afterwards we went to the “Food Court” – a place where you can get all kinds of different foods and I had Thai food for dinner :)
Back home I started putting the furniture together… I love doing that! It’s so much fun!
Today we arranged the furniture, cleaned up the whole apartment and after 4 hours our Spring-cleaning was done :)
I know it still looks kind of “empty” and our furniture doesn’t really match, but we are slowly improving our living environment and every time we buy a new piece, it feels more like “our home” :)
By the way, I made my delicious salmon recipe for dinner… if anyone is interested!
@Cathy and Sanni, I think I sent this one to you before ;)
@ Ilka: Big hug! I know you’re having a tough time :(
@ Kim: How was the wedding?
@ Ute: Everything’s going to be fine ;)

my back is killing me, the Kings lost last night and I just checked flight tickets for July and they’re F***ING expensive (over a $1000!). How much worse can it get? :(
I should seriously ask my supervisor if they would also help me out pay for the ticket (as it is not my fault that I HAVE to go to Germany to get the new visa – although I don’t mind ;)) I still don’t know what’s going on, so I really have to ask him if things are falling in place with the paperwork or not. I seriously didn’t expect the tickets to be that bloody darn expensive…
My back still hurts :( I woke up several times last night because I couldn’t turn and then it was pretty bad all day, although I think it was slightly better than yesterday. I took a hot bath when I came home which helped a little and now I created a little neck collar to support my neck, so I won’t move around too much. I hope it’ll be gone in a day or two.
Well and then the big drama last night (thanks Kim for following so closely that you even looked up the score ;)) – it was a disaster. They were playing so well together, but we’re really unlucky with some shots (they just bounced off the ring and stuff) and although they kept it close and even were on top for a while, they lost by 4 points in the end :( that means they’re out of the Playoffs and no more basketball till October *sigh* what am I to do??
Have a nice day off everyone over there in Germany… I’ll be thinking about you when I am at work ;)

ok guys, I really need every little thumb you can spare to squeeze and every free finger to cross tonight. The Kings are 1:3 behind in the Playoffs and if they lose tonight, the Playoffs are over. I really do believe they can do it – they won the game last Friday and they were on top for pretty much the whole game on Sunday, before they broke in during the last quarter. That can’t happen again! They are a great team and they’re playing amazing Basketball and they’ll have to prove it on more time tonight.
Alright, thanks for reading my own little homage to the Kings :) your fingers are all I need tonight!
I woke up with a very stiff back this morning. It’s like having a stiff neck, just lower. I have a hard time turning my head and I don’t even know why I went to work (probably because I feel really bad if I don’t go, unless I am seriously unable to go). I am trying not to move around too much and I hope my heat pad will help tonight.
I hope everyone is doing ok today!
P.S. I sent of your scrapbook-care-package today, Sanni :) I hope you’ll get it soon!

Here we are. I can’t believe the wonderful week in Boston is over again. Good times always go by soooo fast ;) but hey, at least I am back here to tell you about it.Last Sunday was great. I took the “T” and bus in the afternoon to meet with my friend Annie. It was one of my “blind dates” again :) Annie lives in Chelsea, a suburb of Boston and it took me about an hour to get there… I accidentally left the bus a few stops too early and had to walk a bit to find her apartment house.
It was her birthday on Saturday, so she had a nice get together with some friends. There were her sister Caroline, her friends Tara and Sarah and I. We had a nice afternoon, talking about this and that, explaining how we all met Annie *lol* and then we ordered some pizza for dinner. Afterward we lit the candles on her birthday cake and she had to make a wish :) and then we had some cake for dessert. It really was a fun time. Tara gave Caroline and me a ride to the “T” station and I got back to Cambridge around 9:30 pm.
The next three days were all about more sightseeing. I went to see Harvard Square, Cambridge, Kenmore Square, Back Bay, Beacon Hill, the Harbor, Quincy Market, Downtown Crossing, Newbury Street,… just to give you a slight idea of what you can do in Boston! The greatest thing is – as I mentioned earlier – that you can do everything by foot! I walked soooo much during the last week… it was awesome! :)
Tuesday night we went to see a Baseball game @ Fenway Park! It was my first Baseball game in the US… believe it or not! I’ve always wanted to go, but never managed to get tickets. So I was really excited to finally go and see a Baseball game LIVE… and it was very special, because I got to see my first game in Boston :) after the Red Sox won the World Series last year! It was amazing! The score was 8:11 (unfortunately they lost this time after leading the game up to the 8th inning!) and that’s a really high score for baseball… which means there were a lot of hits and runs = a lot of action :) I bought a really nice Red Sox shirt for Jon!
Wednesday I did some more souvenir shopping and got a nice Boston sweater and a photo frame at Quincy Market.
I also wanted to buy a Boston puzzle. One shop had a really nice skyline photo as a puzzle and I decided to get it on the way back to the “T”, so it wouldn’t get rained on… and then the store was closed! I was so disappointed! :( I was thinking, maybe I can get it online or something.
Thursday was the day to say “good bye”. It was kinda sad to leave Boston again already… time always flies when you’re having a good time. The flight back was smooth though. I am always afraid of turbulence.
We got back to Sacramento at 7:00 pm (local time) and we made some chicken and rice for dinner and then went to bed.
I had to work Friday which wasn’t too bad as my boss was out of the office, so I had a nice, quiet day to start work again! Friday night we watched the Playoffs. The Kings were 0:2 behind and really needed a victory that night pretty badly! And they won! I knew they could do it… as soon as they start to play as a team (as nearly no other NBA team does!), they can win everything!!! It was an awesome game!
Tonight is the next game and they have to win that, too… but I am confident since they’re playing at home at Arco Arena again and that will give them an extra boost! :) I am so excited about tonight! Keep your fingers crossed, would you?
The whole weekend was just relaxing… I went shopping for stationary stuff yesterday (which is always fun :)) and I am planning to do some more scrapbooking today (although I can’t wait to get prints from my Boston photos!!!). I’ll post them soon!
