Damn

April 28, 2004 filed under: nuisance, this and that

I am so pissed today. I got this letter from the Social Security office yesterday that they can’t issue my card, because I didn’t give them all the documents they need to verify my status. I am totally confused because I don’t know what other documents to give them. The only thing I can imagine is a letter from the USGS saying that they want to employ me part-time. I don’t know what to do. The phone line to the social security office was busy all morning and I kept leaving messages and nobody is getting back to me.

Seems as if I am going to miss my first pay check next week but I want the money… I NEED the money.

This is not going to be a good day.

Good news!

April 26, 2004 filed under: my so-called life, this and that

Hey everyone. What a crazy week. I was so busy with work and then I finally got the big news: They are going to pay me soon! I am so happy!

Unfortunately, they can only pay me part time (20 hours), but it’s better than nothing. I had to apply for a social security card and I am kind of mad they didn’t tell me earlier about that, because it can take up to 4 weeks to check my visa status and issue this card for me. I hope it’ll go faster.

My weekend was awesome. J and I were out Saturday all day. We went to Lafayette Reservoir, walked for 6 miles and talked. It was so great. Then we got some dinner from Wendy’s and drove up into the Oakland Hills to wait for the sunset. It was so beautiful!!

Bread discussion

April 21, 2004 filed under: my so-called life, this and that

Hi everyone. What a crazy day. My internship is going great. I love the experience and they will finally start paying me That’s so cool. That was the best news in a long time. Apart from that, I am pretty tired today.

The guys are watching basketball and I try to catch up on my diary now. I think I am going to go to bed soon. I am not really in a talkative mood now. But I have to tell you something funny: I had this discussion with my roommate yesterday about what we (like in “we Germans”) consider ‘bread’ and what we consider ‘toast’. He wanted to make me believe that what
Germans call ‘toast’ is bread as long as it is ‘untoasted’ and that it becomes ‘toast’ after you toasted it. Did you get that? Anyways, I told him that ‘toast’ is supposed to be put in the toaster and that ‘bread’ is rel bread like rye bread or something *lol*

Anyways, I am babbling. Take care.

Our weekend

April 19, 2004 filed under: my so-called life, this and that

Well, it’s Monday again… what can I say?

The weekend was great. Although it rained. Yeah, what did I expect anyways? Saturday… Picnic Day was ok though… it didn’t rain too much. There were so many people on Campus. I couldn’t believe it. We walked around, listened to some bands that were playing and explored all the different things that were going on. It was fun! I wish we would have stayed a little longer, but J didn’t feel like it. So we went home and watched a movie.

Yesterday we had though about going to the Bay Area, but we ended up staying at home, because it was raining so hard. It was kind of cool, so I spent half the afternoon under the blankets that was nice and cozy! Later J and I decided we had to get out despite the rain, so we took a long walk and got another movie. We watched “Timeline”. Has anyone of you read the book? Well, the book is much better… the movie seems to be ‘rushing’ through the contents of the book. It’s too bad, but books are always better than movies. Lesson learned.

Picnic Day

April 17, 2004 filed under: my so-called life, this and that

This is way cool! I am so excited to try that. I used to write my diary in German, but I think I like the thought of writing something down for my English-speaking friends

The weekend is coming up! That’s so great. It’s “Picnic Day” tomorrow… and traditionally it’s supposed to rain! I hope it won’t! I’ve been looking forward to that day for 6 months. I don’t know exactly what will be going on, but the whole Campus will be crowded with people. Good food, good music… and hopefully good weather! I hope you have something fun planned as well.
