8: Five Things Friday

The Friday Five Link-up was discontinued a while ago, but I used to have a feature post called “Friday Facts” and I think I’ll bring it back and call it “Five Things Friday”. Just five things I’m thinking about or things that made my week, or things that I otherwise feel like sharing.

We didn’t get any trick-or-treaters last week on Halloween (on purpose, I might say, as we didn’t want to have any leftover candy in the house at all), but our neighborhood is a hot spot (as we found out). We don’t live too far from the “Fabulous 40’s”, a rich neighborhood with wide streets and big houses, where people come in droves for Halloween and Christmas. Lucky as we are, our street serves as parking space when people come around to gaze at the beautiful big houses (that are often elaborately decorated for the holidays).

I saw a coyote on Tuesday on my way to the gym. In a residential neighborhood in Midtown. That is kind of unusual, but I’ve heard it’s something that has been happening more frequently. They’re getting bold.

Do you want to hear about some stellar customer service? A local pizza restaurant that, after every order, requests feedback by email (not on a social media or public site) and that personally responds to your (unusual) 8 out of 10 stars review (in which you had slightly complained about the pizza not being piping hot when you brought it home) and then sends you a $30 gift card to make things right. BAM.

I am meeting up with my friend Susi tomorrow for a long overdue girls’ date. We’re checking out a German Bakery and probably do some (window?) shopping at the nearby outlet mall. Mostly though, we’re hoping to catch each other up on our lives. I can’t believe it’s been a few months since we last saw each other.

I am getting a 4-day weekend and I couldn’t be more excited! Do you get Veteran’s Day off? Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?

I am doing NaBloPoMo this month. 30 blog posts in 30 days. Come join me. #nablopomo2019

  1. Wow that is awesome service from that pizza restaurant! Good customer service is always appreciated.
Enjoy your 4 day weekend and catching up with your friend.

    1. I am usually very diplomatic with my complaints, especially if I’ve received great service most of the time, but speaking up and telling them when something went “wrong” is also a way of letting them know how they can improve. Definitely great customer service!

  2. Ooh a four day weekend sounds lovely! I’m glad you’re going to meet up with a friend and catch up. That’s always so nice. And that pizza place has amazing customer service! Whoo!

    1. I sometimes forget how important girl time is until it’s way overdue! So glad to hang out with my friend today!

  3. Eeep, you are doingbNaBloPoMo?! That’s awesome!! I did it a few years ago and loves the challenge! I’m excited to read more from you 😊

Uhm, that’s amazing customer service! I love when restaurants and businesses are super savvy on social media and when they pay attention to the needs of the public.

Also our dog woke up barking bloody murder the other morning and bryan ran to the window and it was either a coyote or a fox outside of our house. Long story short, we’re moving 🤣 kidding. But that’s so crazy you have them in your neck of the woods, too!

    1. Oh, sounds like coyote sightings are on the rise everywhere. Do they snatch up smaller animals in your neighborhoods? People keep there cats indoors around here now.

  4. I need to come back and hook up with you on Fridays, because I started doing something (the exact same thing as you, actually) I call Five For Friday. I just list five things that are on my mind. This is a theme that needs to keep going!

I always love hearing about great customer service! I will patronize those places if they are local to me, but if not – I still love hearing about it. I also love passing it along when I’ve received great customer service somewhere.

    1. I know that “Five on Friday” theme is popular around the blogosphere…. because it works :)

I definitely patronize places with good customer service and are happy to direct new customers to them as well!

  5. A German bakery sounds so good! I was in Berlin in August and happened to live right next to the oldest bakery (1906, in Prenzlauer Berg). There was a long waiting line outside on Saturdays. It’s really difficult to find that quality of bread here in the US. Enjoy the day with Susi!!

    1. So cool you were in Germany and stayed right next to the oldest bakery in town. I am going out on a hunch and say that that bakery was probably way better than the one I’ll visit today ;)

  6. That is awesome customer service! I love hearing things like that. A company that knows how to do it right!

No long weekend for me – I don’t get federal holidays off, but I am very much looking forward to a very easy commute! Ha.

    1. Yes, I always patronize places/shops that get their customer service right!!

Boo, no long weekend for you… but at least it will be a light commute ;) (love that you’re looking at the silver lining!)

  7. The Halloween kids are running around here too. This year though no one knocked on my door. And I am glad. Last year I hid and turned off the lights. This is just not my kinda holiday.
Enjoy your girls day. They are so important.

    1. Yeah, Halloween is not really my holiday either… ;)

  8. Wow, that is amazing, unheard-of customer service. I’d definitely be going on Yelp to rave about them and recommend them! Very impressive!

We got maybe 40 trick or treaters? We didn’t keep count this year but it was about an average year for us despite it being very cold (in the 20s). That is kind of typical for MN, though. It’s rare for Halloween to be balmy!
