Hello October

Whew. September flew by in the blink of an eye, and here we are in October. This officially feels like the first month of fall (although we’re still enjoying some pretty warm temperatures over here). Part of me doesn’t want to let a great summer go, but part of me is ready for fall. I guess, it’s good to have a love for all seasons, so saying goodbye to one is never that hard because I am usually also looking forward to the next one.

+ I started off this month with a weekend in San Francisco to enjoy the last couple of days with B + M before they headed back home to Europe. They picked the perfect time to come to California because September usually has the best weather. There was no cloud in sight, it was a comfortable 70+ degrees and we got unobstructed views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

+ Our visitors have now left and even though I was sad to see them go, I am looking forward to a bit more of a normal routine again. These last three weeks were a whirlwind. I’ll be working on some recaps of my recent travels for the blog, so stay tuned.

+ October is a busy birthday month! I know so many October babies! It’s J’s birthday on the 18th! I am hoping we’ll do something fun for his birthday. He shares his birthday with my friend Susi and then it’s also my Mom’s birthday (today!), my niece’s (on the 21st), my godson’s (on the 5th) and two of my aunts’ birthdays (the 26th and 27th) this month and I wish, as always, that I could hug them and celebrate with all of them.

+ Last year around this time, my parents were here and I took them to the Paul McCartney concert at the Golden One Center for my Mom’s birthday. I can’t believe it’s been a year! It was such a great time having them here.

+ My workout schedule was a little “messed up” due to my travel and another half marathon last month, but I am looking forward to getting into a regular routine again. Why is it always so hard to get back into your regular routine after some time off?

+ Las Vegas. What can I say? I don’t have any words left for these kinds of happenings anymore. Not because they don’t shock me anymore; they do! But honestly, if I read one more “pray for Vegas” post, I am going to throw a tantrum. Praying won’t help any of the victims anymore. Something needs to change in this country. We obviously can’t control people, so how about we control guns? Just a thought.

What’s going on with you in October?

  1. You do have a very busy October.

About Vegas. I am just beside myself, as I am sure most people are. I feel like every day or every week something is happening in this country and I am just so frustrated and sad.

    1. I am right there with you. I feel frustrated and so helpless.

  2. October is going to be busy for you! And it sounds like September was too! Your October sounds like our November as far as birthdays go.

My heart hurts for Vegas but like you I am also just angry. We need things to change. This is just not acceptable.

    1. No, it’s not acceptable. When will congress finally do something?

  3. I feel the same way about Vegas. I feel pretty hopeless that change will come, though, unfortunately. I know there is a mental health aspect to the issue but it’s also an issue of people being able to acquire guns far too easily and they should not have access to automatic riffles. It’s just maddening.

I am definitely greeting fall with open arms. I love summer but I also really love fall, especially since it’s so beautiful here. I am hoping for a really long fall because I do not love our winters and they last soooo long! It’s part of living in the midwest, though. I try not to complain but I don’t exactly love that time of year, aside from around Christmas when it’s fun to have snow.

October is going to be a whirlwind month for me as I’m gone part of next week for a work trip to Chicago and then we are gone part of the last week for a trip to Asheville (which I am SUPER excited for!). Besides that I am looking forward to our 20 week ultrasound on October 19th and this coming weekend I’m looking forward to hosting my nephews for the night. It’s my brother and SIL’s anniversary so we are taking them for the night so they can celebrate and now have to worry about getting a sitter. It should be a really fun night!

    1. Well, I always feel like the mental health issue is far harder to fix then just banning guns…. and the thing is, if mental health was more of a priority in this country, people might be able to get away with not wanting gun legislation passed, but mental health seems to be so far down on the list of priorities that gun legislation is the only sensible option at this point.

Sounds like you have a busy October ahead of you, but I am sure you’re excited about the 20 week ultrasound that is coming up!

  4. Oooh, lots of October birthdays coming up. :) And I know what you mean about visitors – we don’t have them often, but no matter how much I enjoy their company, I’m always happy to get back to my routine and have my “me” time again. :)

    1. It’s like… you don’t want to the visitors to leave, but you also want your daily life back.. LOL

  5. I had SO many birthdays in September, but not as many in October. Granted, this is my favorite month so I’m still excited! Can’t wait to see all of your travel posts! How fun.

As for Vegas – seriously. We need to control guns. We need to actually DO something. No more “this couldn’t have been prevented.” It’s devastating.

    -Lauren

    1. October is also one of my favorite months!

  6. That’s a lot of birthdays in October. I can’t wait to see your travel posts. I’m so glad that you had a great time with your visitors. I agree with you about Vegas. Things have to change.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Emily! And yes, things have to change.

  7. September is for me what October is for you when it comes to birthdays. September was my crazy birthday month! We’re starting to get some nicer weather here in Florida (upper 70s in the mornings, which feels DIVINE), so I feel like I can finally welcome in fall. YAY.

I haven’t said much about Vegas because I don’t know what to say anymore. This world is just so scary and the people who have the potential to effect change aren’t doing anything about it. It’s frustrating and terrifying and I’m scared for the next “worst massacre in US history.”

    1. Yeah, it’s really hard to know what to say anymore when these horrible things keep happening… :(

  8. I can’t believe it’s already October! Sounds like it will be a busy month for you :)

  9. Now that the Army Ten Miler is done and after this weekend’s Army Fitness Test, I can’t wait to get back to a normal gym schedule. So much tapering and taking it easy before and after important events that I just want to get back to it!
