Hello August

Hello August

Phew. And just like that I disappeared there for 10 days. My apologies.

The last week could easily go into the history books as one of the most exciting weeks of my life. First, I ran (and completed) my first ever halfmarathon in San Francisco on July, 31 (separate recap to come!), and then I didn’t really have time to process that, because I flew out to Colorado for 5 days the next morning and had one of the most exciting weeks of my career (I’ll also have tell you about that in more detail a little later).

But let’s talk about August. The last few weeks were really busy, so I am anticipating (and hoping for) this month to be a bit more low key.

+ We’re planning to (finally) look into buying a new couch. We had our second-hand Ektorp loveseat from Ikea for at least 8 years and it has served us really well (it is still in pretty good shape!), but we’re ready for a bigger, more comfortable couch and we finally have the space for it.

+ I am hoping to catch some of the Olympic competitions on TV. I am not a dye-hard fan, but the Olympics (and all sports events really) always remind me of how sports can bring people together. Not a bad thing in this day and age.

+ I am going to take it easy in regards to workouts this month. Since I was gone all last week, I took a nice little break, but am planning to get back into a routine this week. I haven’t decided yet if I am just going to keep my workouts low-key for a while, or if I should find a new training plan and set a new goal. (TBH, I do better with a plan.)

+ I have a few new baking recipes on my to-try-list and I hope I can do some baking this month (if temperatures permit – I don’t really want to use the oven when it’s 95°F outside).

+ I am hoping to catch up on some reading. I haven’t really gotten that far with the book I am reading for the PostalBookclub and I started another book simultaneously – as one does, right?! – that just became available for digital checkout at my library.

What’s going on with you in August?

  1. I want to hear more about race experience so please do a recap at some point! :) I am glad you had a great work trip to CO, though. I LOVE THAT STATE SO MUCH. It’s just so so so beautiful there. The mountains are just unbeatable (at least in the U.S., I think it’s the prettiest mountainous area I’ve visited).

Life has been a total blur for me lately, too. I’ve been traveling more for work (and leave for another work trip today!), I had a girls cabin weekend this past weekend which was so much fun, and I”m also sick as a dog with a terrible chest cold. :( That cold has really put a damper on things for me but I went to the doctor today and got some antibiotics so hopefully I’ll be on the mend soon. I’m also hosting friends from NYC this weekend so my mind is all a-flutter about everything I need to do on Friday morning before they arrive (I land at like 12:30 am on Thur night/Fri am). I really really hope the 2nd half of August is more low key because I’m just exhausted right now!

    1. I hope the second half of August slows down for you… you have a lot going on again.

  2. I’m glad you had a great trip – I’ve always wanted to visit Colorado! We’re planning to take August easy, enjoying these last few weeks before the kids start school. We’re planning a trip to Calgary to visit my sister and her family but apart from that – lots of time at the pool and at the playground :)

    1. You should totally go to Colorado sometime.

  3. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the story!!!

    xox

  4. Hurray for your half marathon! That is awesome. Also, I know we’re now nine days into August but sweet mercy I’m in denial, summer is going by too quickly.

As for me, this month I’m headed to Vegas and then I have a few baby showers and birthday parties and going away parties. All while trying not to melt. So hopefully there are more pool dates and BBQs in my future as well.

    1. Have so much fun in Vegas. I can’t believe it’s been three years since BiSC!

  5. Wahoo for half marathon! And for Colorado trip! Can’t wait to see what couch you get.

I’m just waiting for the little Mr. to make an appearance and trying my best to avoid the awful heat (really the gross humidity) we’re having this summer. ;)

    1. Hope the last few weeks of pregnancy won’t be too awful with the current weather.
