Hello May

Edited with Phonto. https://phon.to

And poof, another month gone. How we’re already one third through 2016 is beyond me (I know, I am a broken record), but here we are in May.

I like May for several reasons.

+ It’s usually getting warm and summery here in California in May (well, we already had our fair share of warm and sunny days in March and April, to be honest), but it’s still not the hot hellhole that the Central Valley usually becomes between June and September. May is probably what most Germans would consider perfect summer weather (ha!), so I try to enjoy this month as much as possible. I am especially looking forward to making more use of our backyard. Well, if we get some outdoor furniture and a BBQ grill, that is.

+ I am looking forward to another “girls’ day getaway” with Susi soon (we’ve been working hard to make it an annual  thing!) and we’re currently thinking of going on a kayaking tour in Napa. I’ve never been kayaking (gasp!), but it sounds like fun!  And luckily, there’s a Groupon for that.

+ I’m planning to go back to yoga this month. I am hoping to make this a weekly routine again. I used to go pretty religiously, then somehow fell off the bandwagon. These things happen. The trick is to hop back on, right?

+ I am also putting the Farmer’s Market back on the list for regular visits. I always go pretty consistently in the summer and then during the winter months, I get lazy (although our Farmer’s Market is open year-round). I think it has to do with the fact that it is dark in the early morning hours (not to mention rather cold), so the urge to jump out of bed on Sunday mornings diminishes proportionally to cooler temperatures and lack of sunlight during winter.

+ May is also J’s and my (in)official anniversary month. We got (legally) married on New Year’s Eve in Vegas, but we always celebrate in May (when we had our big wedding celebration with family and friends). This month it’s going to be our 10th anniversary. What?

What’s going on for you in May?

  1. Our neighborhood farmers market came back last week, & I can’t believe I haven’t been yet. I’m so excited to be able to do that on a weekly basis for the foreseeable future. So much easier than running to the grocery store every time I need something!

    1. Yes! Farmers Markets FTW!

  2. Happy anniversary month! You’ve encouraged me to check out the local farmer’s market again too :)

  3. Happy Anniversary! I’m with you on not understanding how the year has already progressed to May. What I remember of my one (Rheinland-Pfalz) German summer, it was very grey and rarely above 75, is that right? Or did we have an anomalous year?

    1. Yeah, German summers can be pretty cool and grey… but not always. It’s been very unpredictable the last decade or so… they had super-hot summers and very cool ones.

  4. What a lovely combination of May things!!! Yaay!

    xox

    1. Thank you friend.

  5. When I saw your post title, my into am reaction was: ‘wait, it’s may?!!?’ I don’t know where this year has gone honestly. It’s bananas. May can be ok in MN but it can also be rainy and cool. It’s going to be an interesting month as in the first 9 days, I have a work trip in NJ, move, see my family at my nephews first communion, and gave surgery… So yah. It’s going to he an interesting month! I have next to no plans after my surgery though as I will be on crutches for most of the month so I think I will be doing very little!!

Happy 10 year anniversary! That’s an impressive milestone!! Phil and I sort of celebrate our anniversary this month as we got back together 2 years ago and have been going strong ever since!!

    1. I can’t believe we’ve been married for 10 years. That seems crazy to me LOL… but time flies (as you can see in your relationship with Phil!).

Hope your recovery is going great.

  6. 10 years! That is something! Are you guys planning anything special? Or something low-key?

I love May because it’s my birthday month so I’m a little biased. ;) I just hope it doesn’t get too warm around where we are because that means sweltering heat and humidity, which brings along those nasty, disease-ridden mosquitoes.

    1. I cannot believe it’s been 10 years. Crazy pants! I really wanted to plan a trip (belated honeymoon – can you believe we never had a real honeymoon?), but it looks like we might just take an overnight trip somewhere or go somewhere for the day.

  7. Happy 10 years! Wow. :)

  8. Going to Farmers Market is one of my favourite weekend things to do – it helps that it’s at a vineyard and in the winter they sell cups of mulled wine so I go especially for that!

I went kayaking for the first time recently and I really loved it, your Napa tour sounds so great I hope you enjoy it.

We have an annual Swiss Market in May that I went to at the weekend and bought lots of bakery treats, Ritter SPort and Knorr Fix packets.

    1. Oh, I am glad to hear you loved the kayaking… I am so excited about it.
And yes, Farmers Markets are one of my favorite things too!
