Things I am okay with not liking

Edited with Phonto. https://phon.to

I’ve mentioned before that I am not one to jump on bandwagons. If something becomes popular really fast and gets a lot of hype, I am usually rather ‘meh’ about it and I often scoff at it, too. I KNOW. Not always my proudest moment, but I just can’t help it.

Here are some things that everybody seems to love that I just can’t get on board with.

1. The Big Bang Theory. I just. don’t. get. it. Maybe my enlightenment will come some time in the future (I do tend to give older TV shows a second chance some time down the road), but so far I’ve watched it a handful of times and the only thought that comes to (my) mind is “This is dumb. Why would I waste my time with this?” You probably hate my “up-on-the-high-horse”-self a little bit right now, don’t you?

2. Booze. I know. It’s weird, right? Most people really enjoy a drink for various occasions and reasons. And there is nothing wrong with that.  It’s not like I have never had a drink in my life (although I came to it rather late), but I am usually very happy without it. I don’t really like beer, I don’t care for a glass of wine in the evening, and even the occasional gin tonic or cocktail are ‘nice’, but nothing that I really need to have. We almost never have alcohol at home and I like it that way. Honestly, I’d rather spend my money on good food.

3. Pizza. Ok, I shouldn’t say that I absolutely don’t like pizza, but I definitely don’t love it as much as other people. It would never show up in my favorite foods list and I personally hardly ever pick pizza for dinner (when we have it, it usually was J’s request).

4. The Hunger Games. I haven’t read the books. I haven’t seen the movies. I can’t stand Jennifer Lawrence (sorry) and I am kind of turned off by the whole “dystopian” craze that’s been going around in fiction/film. I will already point out inconsistencies in regular movies (‘Wait, didn’t she just wear a different necklace/earrings/shirt in the previous frame?’) , so imagine how ‘well’ I do with (way too) unrealistic story settings and plots. Ahm yeah, not well at all.

5. Purses. Of course, I am using purses (and I own more than one), but I don’t really get excited about purses. It always seems like I can hardly find any that I really love and I am usually too lazy to coordinate purses with outfits (because it would mean I have to move all my stuff from one purse to another). Part of me wants to like purses, but for the most part I just don’t. They’re mostly just practical items for me.

6. Donuts. They’re just way too sweet for me. I don’t crave them ever.

What is something that you’re okay with not liking?

  1. I don’t understand The Big Bang Theory either. Or donuts. Ugh. I can’t with either.

  2. I like the Big Bang Theory… all 6 episodes I’ve seen. I feel that way about How I Met Your Mother. I’ve seen it. I like it. But I don’t LIKE it. I do like Hunger Games and other dystopian novels because I like when movies or books make me think about how life might be if one particular aspect of our society was heightened. I think I might blog my own version of this list… stay tuned! :)

  3. 1-5: me too
    6: I love doughnuts <3

Have you been asked if you are a real German because you don't like beer as well?
    *pffffffffffff

    1. Not San, but oh yes, that sounds familiar! Even worse, I’m originally from Bavaria. I’m also a vegetarian, and liking neither meat/sausages nor beer is kind of the opposite of German-ness for so many people…

  4. I’m with you on not really getting why people are so into Big Bang Theory… and pizza…. and purses. I’m also not into Beyonce. And I don’t think Justin Timberlake is attractive. And after taking one sip of kombucha, I don’t understand why that’s such a trendy/popular drink. Also, I strongly dislike shopping. I don’t relate to people who view it as a hobby at all! I could probably keep going… ;) But hey, if we all liked the same things, life would be a lot more boring, right?

  5. I’m okay not liking beer. Or wearing makeup every day. Or The Office.

  6. I’m not liking the fact that I have to be very strict with my eating. I love food, and I love a fine wine, and dessert, well let’s not even go there. But I must carefully monitor what I eat and it makes me crazy!

  7. I hated The Hunger Games. I only finished reading the series because we were on a cruise and it was on my Kindle. I also strongly dislike Game of Thrones – the story never did anything for me and I found most of the characters to be unlikable.

I love a cute purse, but I rarely find them worth the money they cost. And I definitely don’t switch between purses, ain’t nobody got time for that. Thus, I tend to buy one and carry it until it falls apart.

  8. Oh my goodness, THANK YOU. I do not find The Big Bang Theory even remotely funny. In fact, I find it incredibly annoying!

I also don’t like donuts. They’re way too rich and sweet. I’d much rather have a fresh baguette or a croissant with a bit of jam.

One thing that everyone in the world seems to love is bacon. I don’t care for it and I’m totally ok with that!

  9. 1. Shopping. I hate it. Except for food.
    2. Tomatoes. But I am working on that one.
    3. I agree with that Big Bang Theory thing.
    4. And the purses.

  10. I used to like The Big Bang Theory but then got bored with it (as I do with many things) so I stopped watching it.

I actually know a few people who don’t really like alcohol (I actually really like beer and wine). It’s likely more of a taste thing. Just doesn’t appeal to some.

I’m with you on pizza. I’ll have it once in a while, but I definitely don’t crave it. Donuts on the other hand, OH I LOVE DONUTS. So any you don’t want just send my way! ;)

  11. Aww, I love The Big Bang Theory! I don’t watch it religiously and will admit I haven’t seen a new episode in a while, but the episodes I have watched I just loved. It’s definitely my kind of humor. (But if we’re talking popular TV shows we don’t like, mine are 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Everyone has mad love for those shows but me? I don’t find that kind of humor all that funny!)

I’m with you on alcohol and donuts. I can’t remember the last time I had a donut! And alcohol, eh. I can take it or leave it. I never feel like I “need” it after a rough day. I like a fruity drink every now and then, but even then, I’d probably like it just as much without alcohol!

This is a fun post idea! I’ll have to steal it sometime.

  12. I am so with you on the first three. I read the hunger games to see what the hype was about. While I think the story has potential (I do like fantasy though) I feel like its very superficial and just a copy of history set in a new surrounding. But the hype is not as worth as Twilight. That is total crap. Purses and donuts are cool. However I hardly eat donuts so maybe they are meh.
    Have a great weekend, Tobia

  13. I am REALLY into donuts right now, but I cannot figure out what the deal is with “The Big Bang Theory.” It’s terrible.

  14. I’m with you on #1 and #2. I hate the Big Bang Theory too. It just stereotypes nerds/scientists in a really childish way, and I don’t know how people find it funny. I also never feel the need to drink. At a BBQ I may have a beer, or when celebrating something I’ll have a glass of champagne. But it’s just like… meh.

Otherwise, I have to admit I love dystopian fiction – always have. So, I have liked the Hunger Games since I read the first book in 2009.

As for donuts. I have not eaten a donut in several years. I always see pictures and think, “Are they really so good? I don’t remember…” Probably not, although I heard cronuts are a popular thing now.

  15. All these minus GnT and plus Beyonce and Nicki Minaj. About dystopian novels, I don’t understand why all YA has to be dystopian and why most chick-lit historical romances have to be WW2 ones.

  16. I’m not into the Hunger Games either. Nathan and I went to see the first one in the theatre, not really having any idea what it was about, and walked out after the first half hour or so. I have no desire to read the books or watch the other movies!

I love donuts but don’t eat them very often because they’re so sweet. We usually stop at Tim Horton’s when we’ve leaving town on a road trip and get donuts to eat in the car and that’s about it :)
