ENJOYING | outdoor runs when it’s cool but sunny. It’s really the perfect running weather (but alas, this month was full of rainy days as well and I’ve been constantly adjusting my schedule to fit in my runs.)

EATING | cinnamon raisin bagels. You guys, I am a bit addicted to these bagels right now. I usually don’t eat bagels very often, but these are so good when they’re fresh with just a little bit of butter. I love cinnamon + raisins and what I love about the bagels is that they are not overly sweet (unlike cinnamon buns).

SAVORING | the feeling of our deep connection after a long overdue (2.5-hour) phone video call with one of my best friends in Germany. Sometimes it’s hard to schedule these calls what with the time difference and our busy lives but it’s always special when you reconnect and realize, it’s just like you’ve talked to each other yesterday. (You wouldn’t believe how many hours I generally spend on calls with family and friends every single weekend because I usually can’t talk on the phone much during the week due to the time difference. And talking on the phone is NOT my favorite thing but what can you do? I try to look at it as if we were actually hanging out in person. FaceTime has definitely helped that feeling. )

THINKING ABOUT | moving. Haha, before you get excited, we’re NOT moving any time soon. But my friend just bought a house and gave me a virtual tour of her house with three bedrooms. It made me realize once again how much I’d love to have a second bedroom that I could use as an office/workout room. Everything is currently happening in our tiny living room and sometimes that just doesn’t feel ideal (but have you seen rent prices in California recently? If not, don’t go look. Haha.)

DRINKING | coffee. Water. NUUN.

BAKING | a batch of rolls. I tried a new recipe. Those looked really good fresh out of the oven and tasted great on the day of baking. Rolls just don’t keep very well. I froze two to try out if they’re any good when I refresh them in the oven or on a toaster.

READING | “My Brilliant Friend” by Elena Ferrante, because I joined Engie’s Cool Bloggers Book Club again (and I am already a little behind, but determined to catch up!). I am also still on book 7, “An Echo in the Bone” of the Outlander series, and have been skimming chapters of “Dollars and Sense – How we misthink money and how to spend smarter”. Reading three books at the same time is very unusual for me.

BUYING | a new (MagSafe, wireless) travel power bank. An AirTag. A full-body foam roller.1

WATCHING | “The Incredible Dr. Pol”. Have you heard of this show? I used to watch it occasionally on NatGeo Wild before it was dropped from our cable package (yes, we’re still paying for cable – don’t @ me), but I have been able to watch a few episodes when I was down in SoCal at my MIL’s house. It’s a show about a Dutch-born veterinarian in rural Michigan and it’s just a fun and entertaining reality TV show without too much drama. Also, it has animals.

TRAVELING | to SoCal to help out my mother-in-law while she’s going through her last rounds of chemotherapy. I am happy that we’re close enough to go down there for the weekend. I don’t mind being in the vicinity of the ocean either.

PARTICIPATING | in the 100-Day Project. I cannot believe I finally decided to give this a go. I have to thank Tobia for her persistence and inspiration over the years. I’ll be posting an update on my reverse coloring project soon. I find the doodling quite relaxing and so far I’ve been able to follow through with daily doodling. I have finished three pages in my reverse coloring book.

LOOKING FORWARD TO | March. It’s my birthday month AND I get to travel home to see family AND we will all go on a skiing trip in the Dolomites. Can’t wait!

What are you looking forward to?

  1. I just love your Currently posts. So much fodder and little tidbits about your life and, as always, such great pictures.
I also love cinnamon + raisins (two of my favourite ingredients in my morning oatmeal). My FAV is this thick sliced store brand of cinnamon raisin bread. It just like heaven on a plate. Toasted with a bit of butter. YES PLEASE. I am seriously salivating this very minute thinking about it. I rarely buy it, but when I do it is just such a delight. The outside is crispy by the inside is soft and fluffy. I’ll stop droning on about this toast but it is epic! If you ever come visit me, I’ll make sure to serve you some :)

For many years we lived in a very small apartment with two kids and worked out of that same space so I feel the pain of a cramped environment. I hope you find a way to get extra living space into your life. Between your fitness pursuits and working from home, having an extra spot would be amazing! Fingers crossed <3

    1. Thank you friend, I am glad you enjoy this post format. It’s a nice way for a monthly round-up :) I sometimes feel not much is happening in my day to day but these posts always prove me wrong.

I think I have to buy this thick sliced cinnamon raisin bread sometime to try it out. It sounds decadent! :)

And thank you for the kind words regarding our cramped space. Most times, I am happy with our small apartment but every once in a while, I am reminded of the spacial limitations. Sigh.

  2. I love catching up with my BFF in Germany too (she’s argentinian married to a german guy). Those are soul food!!! WE did a quick one last weekend and 2 hrs few weeks ago! It makes me so happy to catch up with her about life, hobbies, just random tibits of our lives.
I’m looking forward to our upcoming visit to Shanghai, other than visiting families, I’m looking forward to run in a cold place!

    1. You truly have friends all over the world, that’s so wonderful.

  3. Cinnamon and raisin is such a delicious combination! Yum. Those rolls look fantastic too.
I’m so excited for you and the month of March! What a great month it will be for you! We are going to Vegas in a couple of weeks and I think it’s going to be very fun. It’s our 22nd anniversary! And my son turns 20 on the same day. Also, Rex turns 3 ON THE SAME DAY. I’m not sure why everything is clustered but that’s how it goes.

    1. Oh, you’re having THREE good reasons for your Vegas trip. I hope you have so much fun! :)

  4. I am so intigued by the reverse coloring book! I started painting with stickers (lol) and that is so therapeutic! The picture of the beach is so gorgeous..

    1. Painting with stickers! Now that’s another great idea I am intrigued by! :)

  5. That beach photo. I’m so jealous!!
I used to love cinnamon raisin bagels with some peanut butter. Toasted slightly. I’m making myself hungry.

    1. Thank you – the beach was quite magical that evening despite the high surf.

  6. How could you move after you finally got that tile replaced?!!??! LOL I kid I kid! I do hope you get more space someday (soon!).

It feels so good to connect with friends. I’m so glad you could, and grateful for all of us that we have video as an option.

Sending lots of love to your MiL!

Your March sounds so great! I am looking forward to training for the Denver Marathon :)

    1. Hahaha, I know right? How could I possibly move after finally having that tile replaced in the kitchen? LOL

I am so excited for you about the Denver Marathon. I think I need to pick your brain about training plans!

  7. Cinnamon and raisins are the ultimate combination! Are you posting your 100 day project on Instagram? If you are, I’d love to follow along. It’s amazing that we can make video calls these days! I’m still quite shy about it, but it is nice to see the person’s face!

    1. I love that so many of you seem to also love cinnamon and raisins in combination. So, so good.

I haven’t posted an update about my 100-day project but maybe I should do it on IG… thanks for the interest ;)

  8. I am with you on wanting to move, but also with you on not being able to due to high prices. We own, but that doesn’t help. I mean, it helps that no one can raise our rent, but buying another place isn’t realistic.

What cinnamon raisin bagels do you buy? I love them, but would like to find some that aren’t huge I think. I love them with a thin smear of cream cheese.

Enjoy the ocean while you’re in LA, so lovely there. I’m glad you’re able to help your MIL out, I am sure that means the world to her. And YAY to a trip home next month! Great way to celebrate your birthday.

    1. Ugh, I remember you’ve also talked about your small living space before. California is a hard place to live right now with the prices so insanely out of control. I do keep an eye out for rental opportunities but the pickings are very slim.

I’ve been getting the cinnamon raisin bagels from Trader Joe’s! They’re not too big (I know what you mean – sometimes bagels can be HUGE!) and they’re pretty fresh, even though they’re packaged. I don’t even toast them.

  9. I love cinnamon raisin ANYTHING. I always keep some cinnamon raisin bread on hand for a little sweet pick-me-up.

I want to move to a two-bedroom so badly! I really want to have an office so I don’t have to work from my living room anymore. But rent prices are so ridiculous. Ugh.

I’m so glad you’re able to be close to your MIL right now. I am sure she appreciates it, too. <3

    TRIP HOME SO SOON YAYYYY

    1. So happy to hear that so many of you love cinnamon raisin. It’s really the BEST combination!

I know you understand the wanting to move to a 2-bedroom. I don’t even want that much extra space, just an extra room would be so nice! Sigh. Hopefully it’ll be in both our futures!

  10. Wow March is going to be an EPIC month for you! I’m so excited for you!!

I can only imagine what rent and housing prices are like in your region. The cost of living is so ridiculous in CA! It is a very cool place to live with so much to do and see but oof, the expenses you have to put up with are terrible.

  11. What a wonderful glimpse into your life right now. Your March sounds like it is going to be fabulous. I hope you can alleviate your space issues.

  12. Oh you are probably home right now. Hope you have fun.

Cinnamon raisin bagels sound so good. Can you share some pictures? I am sure I can get nothing like it anywhere in Germany.

I am glad the 100 day project is bringing you joy. I am looking forward seeing some of your doodling.

  13. Coming in hot with an unpopular opinion… cinnamon and raisin is among my least favorite flavors. It’s right down there with… coconut.
I know, you’ll never speak to me again. But before you delete me from your comments, just know that I am thinking of your MIL, and you and Jon, as you navigate the last of the chemo. Being so close to the end but not *quite* done… I imagine it could be stressful.
I hope your birthday MONTH (we should celebrate you – and your awesomeness! – all month) is as fabulous as anticipated. I cannot wait to hear that you are with your family and (hopefully) stepping away from all of us to fully immerse yourself in the joy. <3
