Snow weekend!

Last weekend, I was invited along for a girls’ weekend in the snow. If you recall, I went with my friend Susi and some of her friends to Tahoe once before. One of her friends owns a vacation home in Truckee and  I was thrilled to get up to the mountains and very thankful that I was invited to join the group again.

I didn’t get to go skiing this year, but we still got to play in the snow a little bit.

Susi and a friend picked me up on Friday at noon on their way from the Bay Area. It’s about another 90 minutes to Truckee from where I live, but we stopped at a supermarket along the way to buy groceries for the weekend. Truckee is at almost 6000 ft so there was quite a bit of snow on the ground when we arrived. Luckily, the main roads were clear and there was no chain control.

The other four women arrived around 5:15 pm and after chatting for a bit, we started preparing dinner. We made turkey chili and salad, and later we played the game ‘Ransom Notes’. Have you played it? It was my first time, but I realized once again, it’s so much fun to play board games with a group of people.

It was an early night for all of us. Everybody is tired at the end of the work week.

On Saturday, we all slept in a little bit (I was up at 8:30 am) and after a leisurely breakfast, we all got bundled up to go for a walk in the snow. It had started snowing overnight and it was supposed to snow all day on Saturday. We were gone for over an hour and it snowed the whole time. Still, I couldn’t have been more thrilled to trudge through the snow!

Don’t I look thrilled?

When we got back from the walk, we all changed into comfortable clothes and hung out at the house for the rest of the day. I mean, who wouldn’t want to hang out on the couch with this view?

We made a light lunch and some tea afterward and everybody just did what they felt like. I knitted for a while, some others took naps, read, or chatted. We also started a puzzle in the afternoon, which turned out to be much harder than anticipated (we did not finish it by the end of the weekend).

Saturday night, we had homemade lasagna and salad for dinner. It was as delicious as it appears.

And later, we played Cards Against Humanity again. As you might recall, I won this game not once, but twice during our last retreat and of course, everybody was joking that I would win again by a landslide.

It was so funny and we laughed so much. However, I have to admit that I did not win this time, even though I did win the first three plays right away. In the end, I tied with one of the other women (we both had won 7 cards). Haha.

Sunday morning, four of the women headed out for a day of skiing at Sugar Bowl. I was a tiny bit jealous that I wasn’t going to go with them this time, but Susi and I headed home mid-day while the others stayed until Monday.

We had a leisurely breakfast again and then hung out with J (who didn’t go skiing with the others) a little longer and worked on the puzzle a little bit more before we packed the car and headed home around noon. It was a fun little getaway with really nice people and I am so happy I got to tag along!

Did you do something fun over the long holiday weekend?

  1. Oh this makes my heart happy. How wonderful that you git invited. It sounds like a really fun group and so chill. I find it hard with big groups that everyone does what ever they like and still feels like doing something together. But its seems like you got that down. That puzzle though.. I couldn’t have left it unfinished.
The snow is amazing. Winter in the mountains is just next level.

  2. What an epic weekend! It doesn’t get any better than playing in the snow and getting cozy in the cabin.

  3. Oh this looks so fun and the perfect mix of adventure, outdoor pursuits, and leisure time <3

  4. Your weekend sounds so lovely and what great photos! I’ll have to see what that game is all about!

  5. What fun! We had TOO much snow and cold and spent our long weekend bundled up and trying not to leave the house. Your snowy weekend looks like so much more fun.

  6. Omg, this sounds like the perfect getaway with friends! I love that you all cooked and played in the snow together and had room for puzzles and doing your own things. I’ve never been there before but the views are gorgeous ❤️

  7. I am happy you had such a nice weekend!
We did not do anything special as I promised one of my kids to drive her to a meet-up an hour away what resulted in a shopping trip for me (what is almost special in itself). I had to go into work on Monday since my cells don’t care if it is a holiday and I was not able to plan it otherwise but it was nice to have a shorter day. Sometimes it’s also nice not to have to do anything special.

  8. What an amazing weekend! I can tell what a great time you had by the beautiful smile on your face!

    That lasagna looks AMAZING!!

  9. Looks like a super fun weekend with friends. It’s always nice to escape and enjoy a girls weekend. Great views indeed!

  10. That looks like so much fun. What a great weekend!
I love Cards Against Humanity – with the right mix of people it’s just so fun. I haven’t played it in ages though!

  11. Oh, that does look like fun! I mean, I wouldn’t have wanted the snow part myself, but it looks like everyone was having fun, and the cabin and views, amazing! Plus that lasagna is making me hungry.

  12. This looks like a wonderful, cozy weekend. How fun! The food sounds great too. I agree, the view was fantastic. I don’t like to ski, but the weather looks ideal for it.

In comparison, I didn’t do anything fun over the long weekend. Coach, Mini and I started watching Fool Me Once. It’s very good. Ed’s girlfriend’s mom gave us Ransom Notes for Christmas. We haven’t played it yet, but it is right next to my laptop and I glanced at it to verift YEP, THAT’S THE GAME WE JUST GOT!

  13. This sounds like a perfect holiday weekend! I love the cosy snow vibes. How awesome to live so close to so many pretty parts of the world.

  14. This looks like endless fun. I love the snow and the house. Both call to me. Also your multicolored scarf is perfect. It’s good to have friends, eh?

  15. What an awesome weekend away! It looks so beautiful! And it probably wasn’t freakishly cold like it was here! It’s fun to trudge through the snow! It’s a great workout. I used to pull the boys in a sled through deep snow and wow it would tire me out!

I haven’t done a low key girls weekend like this since before I was married. I need to fix that!!

  16. This looks amazing, San! What a wonderful weekend away. Your cabin looks so similar to mine in TN! There’s something so lovely about having a low-key weekend away with friends. I’m glad you got to have this!

  17. What a lovely weekend, San. Did you know the other women there from the last trip? I’m so glad you got away to the woods and the snow, even if just for a few days. <3
