Currently | June

WEARING | my super-comfortable romper. Easy to dress up or just lounge around in at home.

THANKFUL FOR | every day where the temperature doesn’t climb into the triple digits. The heat wave in the West is insane.

LOVING | a lazy weekend morning in bed with a  good book. I don’t really sleep much later than 8:30 am anymore, but I occasionally enjoy a slow start when I wake up and stay in bed for an extra hour or two.

FEELING | so sore from my last HIIT workout. Damn, I forget that some of these muscles exist.

EATING | grilled everything – since we got our BBQ out of the garage a couple of weeks ago. What do you like to throw on the grill?

DRINKING | homemade iced tea.

ENJOYING | my week-day 4-mile morning runs. It’s the best time of the day to be outside.

READING |  Know My Name by Chanel Miller. Wow, this is the memoir of the young woman that was sexually assaulted by Brock Turner and she’s an incredible writer and such a powerful voice.

WATCHING | the UEFA Euro 2020.

WONDERING | if I should be laughing or crying about all the weird stories that come out about Trump (like, that he seriously proposed sending the first Covid cases to Guantanamo, or that he asked the justice department about legal actions against SNL and other late-night shows).

HORRIFIED |  by the news about the condo collapse in Miami, Florida. How does something like this happen without anyone noticing anything beforehand?

LOOKING FORWARD TO | making plans to visit family. I know, many have traveled to Germany/Europe again already, but I am honestly not ready yet. Sitting on a plane for 12 hours with a gazillion other people doesn’t sound appealing to me, but I do hope we’ll be able to go sometime in the not too distant future.

What is currently going on with you?

  1. I don’t blame you for not being ready to travel internationally- I’m in the exact same boat. It’s also scary hearing about the Delta variant and knowing most people in Europe haven’t been able to get vaccinated yet. I’m sorry that you haven’t been able to see your family though..that must be so hard!!

  2. That romper looks great on you! Seems like it’d be really easy to dress up and down and comfy on top of that! I have yet to try on a romper that flatters me.
The Miami condo collapse is terrifying and horrible. It really doesn’t surprise me though. Just because, my parents recently moved out of a condo building that has known structural problems yet the condo board has tried to sweep it under the rug for years. Makes me wonder just how many buildings there are like that out there.

  3. I have been reading a lot lately… and every time I do, I remember what an absolute luxury it is and how much I miss it. I don’t know how I got so out of the habit, but it’s lovely to be back into it right now.

We just got back from a trip abroad. If it helps, our flights were very empty. (I’m talking about 20 people in total.) If you can go sooner rather than later, I think you’ll be in a good spot. <3 I'm sure you're ready to see your family… so I hope you can make the trip soon.

The heat here has been stifling. I need to find a few more work clothes that breathe to get through these warmer temps and the increased humidity this year!

  4. I’m also sadly not super surprised about the condo collapse either. :( I know of a local building where parks of the parking garage collapsed! Eeks. That is obv way less bad than what happened in FL but just goes to show that the structural integrity of some of these buildings is not great. But what a horrendous thing to happen. :(

We have had the hottest start to summer, too. It doesn’t get into the 100s very often here but we had a 100 degree day here, may hit 100 this weekend and lots of days in the 90s. June is typically a cooler month and then July and August can be hot and humid. I think it’s going to be a long summer. I usually love summer but this is too intense and it’s often been too hot to have the kids outside, esp the baby.

We read “Know My Name” for book club last year and everyone loved it. Such an impactful book.

  5. Between the heat wave in the West and this condo collapse in Miami (a city that could be under water before we know it), I don’t know how anyone could deny that climate change is real (but I know they will). It’s really scary! I can’t believe how hot it is in some parts of the US – like, FL is having a pretty normal summer and *we’re* the temperate state now?!?! Crazy.

I listened to Know My Name on audio a few months ago and it was incredible. But so, so difficult. One of the best books I’ve ever read.

  6. Grilled everything sounds divine. Have you tried feta-packs? Love those with a bit of zucchini even better.
Totally understand the bit traveling yet. We just decided to not travel internationally at least for this year and taking the car instead of the train for a graduation visit down in Stuttgart. Much more stressful but under the circumstances better choice. Hope though you’ll be able to see family soon.

  7. That romper is so cute!! I hope you can get to Germany soon, but I get not wanting to be stuck on a plane for that long. I’m going to be on a plane this week but it’s a much shorter trip, so I feel less nervous about it. Still going to be a strange feeling though!

  8. I love that romper on you! I need something like that for the summer – its so comfy but still kind dressy/casual!

  9. Oooh, I love all of this! Our heat wave has broken – not that it’s anything like what you experience, but it was hot for us :) I am a morning runner too, I love being outside and mornings are so lovely and refreshing.

  10. Your romper looks great on you! I’d look pretty goofy so I think I’ll pass. ;)
I so, so hope that a visit to your family happens soon. I am glad you’ve started anticipating it, though! It will make it that much better when you are reunited.
And, I’m envious of your grill. Not allowed in my apartment, which is a total bummer. (I’ve seen people break the rules but since my apartment is literally next to the office, well… not going to happen…)

    1. That’s a bummer that you can’t have a little BBQ… but yeah, I know some apartment complexes are pretty strict (and probably for a reason). It’s just so nice to just throw something on the grill during the summer month :)

Thank you for your kind words.
