January Favorites

1. Bookbub.com  I’ve been signed up to this website/app for a while and I have no idea why I haven’t mentioned it sooner because it is truly awesome. If you’re an avid reader, and I know some of you are, you want to check this out (if you don’t already know about it). Bookbub.com keeps track of free or discounted ebook deals on various sites (like Amazon and Barnes & Nobles) and alerts you every day with a list of available ebooks that you can then download for free (or a fraction of the normal price). I admit, I often don’t know of the books and go by reviews and cover design (hey, who doesn’t care about the cover at least a little bit?), but at least I have a stack of (free) books now to choose from on my nook, if I am in a pickle.

2. I go through phases, but I always come back to Wasa light rye crispbread. You can find it in the ‘cracker section’ at the supermarket, but it really is bread (in my opinion). I love it with cheese or meat spreads. It’s high in fiber and low in calories and the perfect breakfast or snack. Two slices only have 60 calories.

3. The Hemingway App. Have you heard of it?  If you write a lot, you probably have heard of this awesome online app that will help “polish” your writing.

4. Shea Moisture Argan Oil & Raw Shea Body Wash I love this body wash. It smells heavenly and feels very luxurious. Also, it has natural ingredients.

5. Overdrive in combination with our (digital) local library. As I am trying to incorporate more reading into my life again, I’ve re-discovered the awesomeness of the digital library. It’s been so nice to have so many books on your digital fingertips for free. Only downside: why do all the books I have “on hold” always become available at the same time? It’s like Murphy’s Law, right?

6. If you know me you know that I’m a huge fan of tomato soup. I usually like to make it from scratch (because it’s pretty easy), but I also found a canned tomato soup that is really, really good (and I usually scoff at canned soup!). Try Amy’s Chunky Tomato Bisque. I promise, you won’t regret it.

  1. I love everything by Shea Moisture, & I use Overdrive religiously. I have cards at three library systems, so I can almost always find what I’m looking for!

    1. That’s right! I think I have another library card that I can add to Overdrive! Thanks for the reminder!

  2. I’ve never head of the Hemingway app but I’m definitely going to look into it :)

    1. Yes! Let me know what you think!

  3. I love wasa! Really light and great crackers for snacks with cheese and cold cuts.

Have you tried the Shea shampoo and conditioner? I absolutely love them. Used them for a while, but switched to something else (I always switch up my shampoo/conditioner). I’ll likely go back to using it again once I’m done with my current shampoo.

I’ll need to checkout that hemingway app!

    1. Yes, I have used Shea shampoo and conditioner (and their body lotion/butter!)…. but I do the same, I switch up shampoo/conditioner every once in a while! What are you currently using?

  4. I wish that you could pause requests on overdrive like you can with physical books at the library! I tend to only request physical books because I can control when i get them (if you pause a request, you still move up the queue, you can then unpause it when you are ready to read the book).

I haven’t heard of the hemingway app! I will have to check that out. I do quite a bit of writing for my job but luckily we have an editor that edits our work and puts it into a professional-looking publication. This is the first company that has had editing staff and it’s oh so wonderful as our editor is amazing at what she does!

    1. Oh, that is cool that you can ‘pause’ physical books at the library… that would be neat if you could that with Overdrive, too.

The Hemingway app is really cool… it makes good suggestions for ‘ run-on-sentences’, for example. I don’t always take all the suggestions but it makes you think about your writing :) I guess having your own editor in house is pretty awesome!

  5. I haven’t heard of the Hemingway App but will for sure go and check it out!
Thanks for the reminder – I’ve never been a big fan of Knaeckebrot (love Zwieback!) but you are right, it’s a great snack and not bad with cheese!

    1. I love Zwieback too!!

  6. Oh the Bookbub app sounds amazing I need to check out if this works for the German Amazon too. I also love Wasa rye crispbread but the packaging here is green… interesting. Wonder if it is the same.
    Happy day, Tobia
