June Favorites

June 30, 2014 filed under: monthly favorites

JuneFavorites

1.) It’s been so hot here that I’ve transitioned to a lighter, tinted moisturizer during the summer months and I’ve recently purchased Physician’s Formula Organic Wear CC Cream when I was looking for a more natural option. So far, I really like it. It’s soft and creamy, applies well and almost feels like you’re not wearing anything at all. Perfect for this kind of weather!

2.) Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Milk Chocolate Almonds bars: do I need to say more? They’re just the best.

3.) Little Moments™App by Fat Mum Slim – reminiscent of the Beautifull Mess App, this is a new favorite of mine with fun fonts, backgrounds and doodles! Also, it integrates with Fat Mum Slim’s Monthly photo challenge, if you’re into that!

4.) Primal Pit Paste – I’ve ventured out into the world of natural deodorants, because I didn’t want to keep putting potentially harmful stuff so close to my lymph nodes and breasts and I was looking for something that would keep me stink-free. I heard about Primal Pit Paste through a friend’s blog and thought I’d give it a try and it’s quickly become a favorite (separate review to come!)

5.) We often have Music Choice channels on in the background when we don’t want to have the TV on, but are in need of some background noise. “Rock Hits” is currently my favorite. If you want a solid mix of 90’s music (and some 70’s and 80’s mixed in), this is for you! You can also stream it online!

6.) For the last couple of weeks I’ve been going on evening  coffee dates with J and I love them. It’s our idea of date night… sitting outside with an iced coffee and just catching up on the week or talking about this and that. I love how there is always something to talk about with my guy.

June Birchbox

This month I received Birchbox #34 with some exciting goodies.

Egyptian Magic All-Purpose Skin Cream ($2.38) This skin cream promises to do a lot. A LOT. It’s claimed that it’s a face cream, an eye gel, a hair masque, a treatment for burns, and has even been know to heal psoriasis and eczema. Mmh! I am highly intrigued. It looks a little bit like petroleum jelly when you open the little tub and there is no detectable scent.

Vasanti Cosmetics BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator ($5.55): Since I started using my Clarisonic, I have stayed away from exfoliating cleansers.  I might try this on alternate days with my Clarisonic and see how my skin feels. I don’t want to over-exfoliate and irritate my facial skin.

Coastal Scents® Revealed 2 Palette Set (estimated $3.90): I got the sunset sampler – four natural/earthy-toned, two sparkly eye shadow samples. Definitely something I will use.

Harvey Prince Hello Fragrance ($1.10) I am not a huge fan of fragrances. They’re – IMHO – usually not worth the money and a good deodorant is all I really need. However, since switching to an unscented, natural deodorant a few weeks ago, I see the benefit of spritzing a little scent on my décolleté. This scent is really nice and subtle. I like!

LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube Pencil – Bees Knees ($18): This is a full size item which I always love!  It’s shea butter and mint-infused and really softens the lips! At first, I wasn’t a big fan of the coral color, but applied it’s much more subtle!

The whole Birchbox came to $30.93 this time. A good value for the money spent! I am especially excited about the Egyptian Magic Skin Cream, the eye shadow and the Lip Pencil!

Akward & Awesome

USAGER

Image derived of USA Grunge Flag and German Grunge Flag

This is a regular feature post on my blog. See the archives here.

AWKWARD
  • Watching the US losing to Germany and feeling sad and happy at the same time! Strange this whole two-hearts-beating-in-your-chest- thing.
  • Experiencing debit card fraud and having a police officer tell you “Nah, you don’t need to file a police report. We’re not going to look into it anyway.” SAY WHAT?
  • A teeny-tiny bit of rain in June yesterday in otherwise drought-stricken California. We’ll take it.

AWESOME

  • Germany beat the US in the World Cup game today!
  • Germany AND the US will advance to the last 16 knockout stage in the World Cup 2014! Hooray!
  • Evening walks when the delta breeze comes in!
  • Having my niece (5 1/2) tell me that she lost her first baby tooth and that the tooth fairy came to pick it up last night. Awww! She’s growing up so fast!
  • Häagen Dazs ice-cream bars. Do I need to say any more?
  • Trying new recipes (not all, but someof them were found on Pinterest!). Verdicts to come!

Another week, another  ‘Foto der Woche‘ again. Here is my Glücklichmacher #25:

McKinley Pond (taken June 22, 2014)

Summer is here in full swing and we’ve been going for walks in the evenings when the sun starts to go down. Our favorite walking routes are around our neighborhood and the park. It’s just so nice to sit on a bench and talk and catch up on the happenings of the week.

Things I love Thursday

June 19, 2014 filed under: love, TILT

This week I’m loving…

… the World Cup! I am so football-fanatic right now, it’s not even funny! Can’t wait for the next Germany game on Saturday!

… a surprise package with some pretty yarn from a new online friend. People on the Internet are awesome! ♥ Thanks so much, Steena!

… my latest knitting project. My aunt sent me some pretty long gradient yarn a couple of weeks ago and I have started working on  shawl with it. Can’t wait for the color change to occur!

…French Press coffee. Naturally! And freshly-baked croissants on the weekend!

… “Our America” with Lisa Ling. Do you know her documentary-style series on the Oprah channel? It’s so good. I love her style of journalism! Highly recommend!

… a clean car. We are driving an old 1998 Saturn and as long as it runs, I am not planning on buying a new car. I really also don’t care about its appearance much, but yesterday I had enough and drove it through the car wash. It had been so dusty from the drought conditions that we’ve been enduring here in CA and it just started to bother me way beyond reason.

… the cooler temperatures. And when I say cooler, I am still talking about “hot” by all standards, but at least we’ve not been in the triple digits this week!

… some fun trips this summer. I have a little getaway planned with J and then I’ll be seeing a dear friend in LA in a few weeks! Hooray!

… strawberries! Always!

What are you loving this week?

Hello photo friends. It’s time for the  ‘Foto der Woche‘ again and this time I’m going culinary.

Here is my Glücklichmacher #24:

I had a bunch of stuff left in my fridge that we needed to use up, so we improvised a meal last night and it turned out so yummy. I call it ‘Vegetable Red Curry Soup”.

6 ways to help spring clean your finances. Do you do these things?

There surely is some truth to these: Being 30 means…

18 cool Internet tricks you didn’t know about. Ahm yes, there is always more to learn. Some of these are really handy!

If you know me a little bit, you know I am a big fan of Caprese Salad and I want to try this garlic balsamic dressing so bad!

I really liked Doniree’s post about the myth of perfectionism.

I think this was a very good article about about Myth vs. Fact: Violence and Mental Health.

This might come in handy: How to practice saying no.

I am not entirely sure if it is possible to raise kids completely without some gender stereotypes, but this article definitely gives some food for thought.

13 Google search tricks that make life a whole lot easier. The more you know!

Some of those are my pet peeves!

I enjoyed Kyla’s post about how to take better photos for your blog.

Mmh, Zucchini soup! Sounds delicious!
