THINKING ABOUT | my late best friend this week. It would have been her birthday. It felt „odd“ to not be able to call her. I hope someone threw her a big-ass party, wherever she is now.
FEELING | a lot better again physically. After taking it easy for a few weeks, I am back to running and it feels good. I have a follow-up appointment with my PCP on Monday. I am not sure how that is going to go. If he’s going to listen to me and investigate further, or dismiss what happened in May because I haven’t had a repeat. I am still considering a long-term ECG, just to check all the boxes. If this episode was truly stress-related, then I am hoping the changes that I’ve been making will help. I’ll give you an update after next week’s visit.
BOYCOTTING | the World Cup. I am usually a fan of watching international soccer competitions, and I like to cheer on the German team, but I haven’t watched a single game so far. All the news around the World Cup makes me sick. America, you cannot host the World Cup and then not allow the world to participate. Do better!
WEARING | these fun pants that you can see in the hammock picture. They’re (currently folded up for the summer) low-rise baggy jeans with a fun print that my teenage self would have loved! Tanja and I bought them on an absolute whim, when she was here in March (yes, we’re twinning!), but I have no regrets. Fun fact: I’ve already gotten quite a few compliments on them. Even from male coworkers. TWICE. That surprised me.

ENJOYING | my hammock. I probably will stop talking about it at some point. Today is not that day. If you don’t have a hammock, I highly recommend you get one.
EATING | homemade granola. I don’t know why I hadn’t done that in a while. It’s so easy, so quick, and so much better than most store-bought granola, and did I mention that it’s cheaper as well? Granola at the store has gotten insanely expensive (what hasn’t?). I made an almond pumpkin seed raisin granola this time. Do you have a favorite granola recipe?
WISHING | I had a summer break coming up. When other people talk about their summer break plans, I am always like „what summer break“? It reminds me of that meme where a recent college graduate gets their first job and is stunned when she finds out that she won’t get 8 weeks off in the summer. Haha. I want that kind of life! The only summer perk for me is that the campus (where I work) is pretty empty and quiet these days.

LOVING | my (new) Garmin Watch. I don’t think I have gushed enough about the Garmin Watch that Jon gave me for my birthday. It’s one of the fancy Garmins, one that I probably wouldn’t have bought for myself, but I am absolutely in LOVE with it. It has ALL THE STATS, and it’s the prettiest watch I have ever owned.
AMUSED BY | the Trader Joe’s bag hype… insulated shopping bags, mini lunch bags, mini tote bags… everybody is going CRAZY right now, and people are buying them up like hot cakes to resell them with a 400% markup on the Internet. I did snatch one of the lunch bags up for myself, you know, to actually use it, because, yeah, they’re cute, but what in the world?
How’s your June going?

June 11, 2026 at 4:41 pmWell, good thing I read blogs because I’m obviously out of it. There’s a controversy around the World Cup? I don’t know what’s going on, but I guess the US is behaving badly once again. On a lighter note, i have not heard about the Trader Joe’s bag hype, WHAT? It’s funny because I was thinking earlier today that I haven’t been to Trader Joe’s in ages- I need a trip there soon.
I’m glad you’re feeling better! And… just be glad you don’t live in my house. My husband is a teacher so he and my daughter HAVE THE SUMMER OFF. Grr! You better believe there’s some gentle nagging going on- “Can you guys clean up while I’m gone? Can someone else make dinner tonight?” Sigh. I need a hammock.

June 13, 2026 at 10:33 amOh Jenny, that must be so hard to live with two people who get a summer break! I feel for you!
If you don’t go to Trader Joe’s very often, I guess, it’s not surprising you haven’t heard about the hype… but yeah, they were “rationing” how many bags people could buy. Haha.

June 11, 2026 at 8:03 pmI’m glad you’re feeling better, hopefully the changes you’ve made stick.
I also love homemade granola, but I’m very bad at remembering to make it and also remembering to take it out of the oven before it burns. It always seems like it is not cooked enough, and then suddenly it is cooked too much, with no time in between.

June 13, 2026 at 10:34 amI frequently forget about making granola, too, although it’s so easy. How long do you usually bake it for? I think 25 minutes is where I usually find it’s “right”.

June 13, 2026 at 7:44 pmThat is probably my problem—I odn’t know how long I cook it for, I just keep on eye on it.

June 12, 2026 at 1:14 amI see hammock everywhere in brasilia but wonder how you set it up. and also is it comfy for the back? I feel I’m pretty high maintenance for lounging position to care for my back.
I haven’t see TJ bags! will check them out next week when we arrive.

June 13, 2026 at 10:35 amI have a stand that came with my hammock, and the setup was very easy! Took me all of 10 minutes, max! I feel it’s very comfortable, I didn’t have any issues so far…

June 12, 2026 at 2:26 amThose jeans/pants are ADORABLE.
I love my hammock and one of my goals this summer is to spend more time in it :)

June 13, 2026 at 10:35 amYes, for more hammock time!

June 12, 2026 at 6:33 amBiased opinion (as you know!) but I really think you should do a cardiac monitor for 1-2 weeks. It’s really easy, non-invasive, and can only provide info (hopefully the info that all is well!). Thinking of you!
San
June 13, 2026 at 10:35 amI totally understand where you’re coming from (obvs!) and I will ask for a longer term monitor for sure. I hope the PCP will see the necessity!

June 12, 2026 at 6:35 amOh, and my daughter wants us to stand in line at Starbucks early one morning next week. I feel like this will just backfire and we’ll come home tired with nothing but I will probably humor her!

June 12, 2026 at 6:35 amI meant Trader Joe’s! lol

June 12, 2026 at 2:46 pmI feel very meh about the World Cup. I am not a big soccer fan and I am so embarrassed by our country. Sigh.
I don’t get a summer break and our kids schedule is not very different in the summer but I am actually ok with this. I like routines and schedules and we need full time child care. So all 12 weeks of the boys summer break will be spent at the school childcare program or a church day camp or my parents. And I am pleased because our work schedule doesn’t change in the summer. Phil and I talked about summer on a date night recently. He feels bad that the kids don’t have the care free schedule he had as the child of 2 teachers but I would prefer their schedule to how bored I was a child in a rural area of ND. They do not complain about their summer schedules so I think they are doing just fine.

June 13, 2026 at 10:36 amHa! Good Luck! (And I know you meant TJs :)).

June 12, 2026 at 10:35 amI have made the same granola recipe for years. 7 cups oats, 1 cup shredded coconut, 1 cup flaxseed meal (you can use wheat germ, but I don’t bring that into the house because of the gluten situation), 1/2 cup nuts (whatever I have on hand, but usually walnuts), 1/2 sweetener (usually brown sugar), 1.5 tablespoons of vanilla extract, 1.5 tablespoons of maple extract (both extracts are homemade), 1/2 cup olive oil, 1/2 cup hot (boiling if it’s around) water. I make it like clockwork every few weeks. I didn’t even know granola had gone up in price because I just keep plugging away with this recipe!

June 12, 2026 at 5:25 pmThe issues around the World Cup are sad. I haven’t been watching, as it’s not an interest of mine, but I sure do wish that it could be a positive event that would bring people together. I am very glad that you’ve been feeling better. Your Garmin is beautiful!

June 16, 2026 at 6:56 pmDon’t even get me started on the World Cup! And I have a feeling I’m going to feel similar about the LA Olympics, ugh.
Your hammock is SWEET. I wish I had one. I need to convince my mom to get one for her backyard, mostly so I can spend all my time in it!

June 22, 2026 at 4:29 amI am so not unvested in the WM this time around and I usually am and Try to watch as many games as I can. I was considering boycotting as well because it is just a whole lot of BS – from the US and the FIFA.
However the husband wanted to watch the German games and so we did watch the two so far. But I couldn’t care less.
And what is that hydration break shit. Another way to do advertising… (I mean it’s my job and keeps us paid but it’s annoying).
However I like the moderators who refer to it as mens soccer. Ha! we are getting somewhere.
And I love you pants. I used to own one with printed stars but I haven’t seen any of these styles anywhere. I want one.
