Today I’ll be answering a bunch of random questions submitted by Engie. If anyone else has more questions, you can submit them here.
What’s your favorite baked good?
Marble cake. It reminds me of home because my mom used to make it for my sister’s and my birthday. I also love lemon cake and, really, every other pound cake, but it’s become a bit of a tradition to bake myself a marble cake for my birthday every year.
If you could live anywhere (money/job no concern), where would you live?
I have previously confessed my love for Boston. It’s the first city I visited in the US and it left a lasting impression on me. I love its European feel, I love that it’s walkable and has great public transportation. I also love the history. When I came to the US for my exchange semester, I wanted to go to New England. I ended up in California instead.
Who is your favorite Muppet?
I think my favorite Muppet is Elmo. He’s just so delightfully innocent and sweet.
What’s the oldest thing you own?
I had to think about this for a while. I think the oldest things I own are pictures from my grandparents’ youth (which was in the 1930s). They’re currently not in my physical possession (but at my parents’ house). I find historical photos so fascinating.
What’s a book you’ve read that made you stay up too late?
Outlander (the first book and the whole series). I am just a big fan. Historical fiction is my favorite genre and Gabaldon’s talent to weave historical events and people into the storyline of this series makes for really interesting story-telling. And I know I repeat myself, but I love the attention to detail in these books. I don’t mind the elaborate, descriptive writing at all. Some people also find the historical information that is embedded in the story tedious and long-winded, but I personally find it interesting and necessary to set the stage for everything that is happening to Jaime and Claire, and I enjoyed it as much as the rest of the story.

November 25, 2024 at 1:13 pmGreat question & answers. I think Outlander might be a book I too kept reading into the night (but it was so many years ago I can’t say for sure). Did you like the tv series as well? I’m a fan, but now not as much as it moved to be about the kids…

November 26, 2024 at 5:45 pmI’ve been a fan since the beginning… I recently (well, almost two years ago now) started re-reading all the books when book #8 came out (which I still haven’t read). I have watched some of the TV series but was reluctant for a long (!) time because I had such a vivid image of all the characters in my head that I didn’t want it ruined by a screen adaptation (although I must admit it was well done).

November 25, 2024 at 2:48 pmElmo! I would not have guessed that! I agree, he’s super cute and sweet.
San
November 26, 2024 at 5:46 pmI love Elmo… he’s considered a muppet, but on second thought, I don’t know if Engie’s question meant just the “Muppet Show” characters?

November 25, 2024 at 4:12 pmElmo is so loveable! He’s a favorite in our house as well. I knew about your love of Boston! It does have a lot going for it. I thought we would love it more than we did, but it is a fun city with so much history. I love their freedom trail.

November 26, 2024 at 5:47 pmOh, I am surprised that you say you didn’t love Boston as much as you thought – why is that?

November 25, 2024 at 5:15 pmMy mom used to make a lemon loaf that I adored – she made it for me when she came to stay when I had Angus and it was so wonderful. She also made me a jello cake for my birthday every year, up to just a couple years ago, and would make it again if I asked. Which I might.
I think I would live in Halifax if I could live anywhere.

November 26, 2024 at 5:47 pmAww, I love that you have fond memories of lemon cake as well :)

November 25, 2024 at 8:24 pmOh, I love Boston. Such a great city. Animal was my favorite Muppet when we were kids. My best friend in high school looked like Fozzy Bear – I think it was her mane of curls made her look like a teddy bear. We always called her Fozzy.
San
November 26, 2024 at 5:48 pmOh! Fozzy is probably my second favorite :)

San
November 26, 2024 at 5:48 pmHahaha, I love it!! Also, I keep going back to the question: did you mean any of the muppets or the ones specific to the Muppet Show?

November 26, 2024 at 7:25 amOh, and my favourite muppet is Kermit. Always and forever.
San

November 26, 2024 at 2:11 pmAlways love learning more about my blog friends.
I have never read the outlander series. I started the sho but stopped. I am not sure everything’s (time travel, historic fiction) does scream it’s my jam and everyone recommends it but somehow I feel it is not my kind a book. Weird.

November 26, 2024 at 5:49 pmWhat’s your favorite genre if you historical fiction?

November 26, 2024 at 2:32 pmMy mum often made marble cake for celebrations when we were growing up. So good! I think I was the same with Outlander.
San
November 26, 2024 at 5:50 pmAww, love to hear that you also grew up with marble cake :) It’s a classic.
And I love that you love Outlander. It’s such a fantastic series.

November 26, 2024 at 5:46 pmI love the clips I’ve seen of Elmo making appearances on late-night talk shows and having great banter with the adults there even in his innocent way.
Not sure I’d say he’s my favorite but I like Animal quite a bit too.
San
November 26, 2024 at 5:50 pmAnimal is pretty cool too :)

November 26, 2024 at 5:58 pmI tried reading Outlander, but just couldn’t get into it. Time travel isn’t my thing. I’m all in on marble cake, lemon cake, and Elmo!
San
November 28, 2024 at 11:49 pmAww, sorry you couldn’t get into Outlander… but it’s ok, tastes are different. But I am glad we can agree on cake ;)

November 26, 2024 at 7:52 pmI loved when Elmo asked on Twitter how everyone was doing, and people answered and just poured their hearts out. He’s darling. My favorite was from the Muppet Show, Beaker. Do you remember him?
I’ve never really been to Boston, I would like to go. My family lived in that area for several generations, but left and came to California in the early 1900s, so it’s been awhile. I went on a business trip to Methuen, which is in MA up by the NH border, and we went to Salem for dinner one night, but I only flew in and out of Boston.
San
November 28, 2024 at 11:50 pmBeaker! Of course, I remember him. He’s so funny!

November 29, 2024 at 7:37 amHa, the muppet question is so fun!
I love Boston. I only visited once but it was such a great city and I want to go back!

December 14, 2024 at 3:46 pmOh, Boston. I love Boston. New England is the only place i could live on the East coast, I’ve decided. But warmth is probably going to win out in the long run.
Favorite muppet! Elmo and Grover, although if we’re going for the Muppet show…hm, I’ll have to ponder. :)
