If you been around for a while, you might have seen these posts come around in June, because it is Global Running Day every year on the first Wednesday of June. If you don’t know what it is, here’s the official description:
Global Running Day is a worldwide celebration of running that encourages everyone to get moving. This day plays an important role, reminding us of the positives that running can offer and the power of unification. Its mission seems more important than ever right now, as people everywhere attempt to stay active and healthy. During these challenging times, many people are turning to running as a solution to help release anxiety, gain perspective, cope with cabin fever, and keep up wellbeing.
As every year, I am pledging miles for #GlobalRunningDay and I am also joining the Virtual NYRR Global Running Day 1M and the Lululemon Global Running Day Challenge powered by STRAVA. #NYRRVolvoVirtualRacing (Between June 1 and June 6, lace up your shoes and run the world with thousands of other participants in celebration of a day that encourages everyone to stay active and healthy).
I also signed up for the Global River Run where you pledge miles and run for a river of your choice. The hope is to spread awareness about the importance of keeping our waterways clean. #worldriverrun
There is no shortness of good causes, least of all your own physical and mental health, to get out and run for on this Global Running Day. Come join me and move your body to show your support!!
I don’t know about you, but running has been such a lifeline for me this last year. Running has always been as much of a physical outlet as a mental health tool and that has been especially true during the pandemic when we were restricted in so many ways.
Getting out there for a run put me back in control of what I am doing and how I am feeling on any given day.
What do they say? There’s nothing a nice, long run by the river can’t fix. Amirite?
Always remember:
How will you be celebrating Global Running Day?
This week, I am linking up with Kookyrunner and Zenaida for Tuesday Topics.

June 1, 2021 at 5:05 pmYes to everything you mentioned ;-) I’ll be up and out the door by 05:00, for my weekly #5at5 (five miles at 5:00AM), but I might do a second (shorter) run after work. Enjoy your run tomorrow!!

June 2, 2021 at 7:17 amYou found a lot of cool things to virtually participate in! I was really hoping to run on Global Running Day this year for the first time in soooo long, but I am sick w/ a really bad cold. Womp womp. We have had a terrible run of illnesses – I guess from people being out and about more. We are not out and about very much besides seeing other vaccinated people mostly outdoors, but other families at daycare must be doing more so we are getting all those darn viruses. :( But once I am feeling better I’ll log some miles belatedly!

June 2, 2021 at 9:54 amLove everything that you mentioned!
Running, and workouts in general, were a huge source of comfort for me as well last year. With so many things out of our control, it felt good to have running as it felt like connecting with an old friend.

June 3, 2021 at 8:30 amRunning by the water is one of my favorite things to do. Lakes, rivers, creeks, ocean. Ocean is my preference, but of course I don’t live anywhere near an ocean!
I don’t plan my runs around holidays (or even birthdays) but I did have a short recovery run yesterday. Alas, not by the water.

June 15, 2021 at 4:21 pmI did not get to run for the actual day, but did run the next. I love that you found so many virtual races to support, and for such excellent causes.
