Monthly Favorites | December

1. I usually don’t drink Baileys Irish Cream* (or much of any alcohol for that matter) throughout the year, but it’s a special treat I’ve come to enjoy for New Year’s Eve.

2. I made homemade Semmelknödel* (bread dumplings) for the first time (stale bread rolls are somehow hard to come by in the US, but I figured that stuffing would be a good alternative) and they turned out great. Can’t wait to make them again!

3. It’s that time of the year when J’s always hot and I’m always cold and so this fuzzy blanket* is currently my best friend and it goes where I go.

4. In an effort to use up all the makeup I have lying around (which really isn’t that much at all), I rekindled my love for the Loreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation*. Applied with a brush, it’s actually quite good and long-lasting.

5. I got lucky during my Christmas shopping with J and scored these new boots*! They’re actually comfortable and came at a great sales’ price.

6. I’ve tried to transition from regular (2%) milk to a milk alternative for my morning coffee, but I had a really hard time finding something that could match the creaminess of regular milk. Almond milk and coconut milk are not creamy enough and have too much of a distinct taste, but I think Trader Joe’s Unsweetened Soy milk* is the winner. I can hardly feel a difference in texture and it’s only a minor taste adjustment. Win-win.

7. Christmas cards. Do I sound like a broken record? So be it, but it’s no secret that Christmas cards make me the happiest in December.

What was one of your favorite things this month?

  1. Those boots are so cute! I need that blanket in my life. You can never have enough cozy blankets! Hope you have a happy new year, friend!

  2. My house is usually pretty chilly, so we all love our blankets this time of the year. LOL Yay for a good deal on boots!

  3. OMG those bread dumplings look/sound amazing!

  4. I think what I liked most in December was that things slowed down for me. I was able to do some cooking of soups and stews and not rush. So everything came out really well. Yes, I like the slowness of the season.

  5. Those boots are adorable! Also I was just reading a list of the best Trader Joe’s items you’ve never heard of (Coconut Aminos? Thin Joe Joes! Mini vegetable samosas) and I think I’m going to have to add this soy milk to the shopping list. We only use almond / cashew / soy milk here as a coffee alternative, but that’s always been my issue with it in coffee, too. Thanks for the tip!

Hope you had a very happy new year and that you are staying warm! Sending all my <3 and well wishes for a fantastic 2019!

  6. I got a new heated blanket for Christmas from my MIL. I love it SO much. She got me one a couple of years ago and I used it so much that it stopped working and would only get slightly warm. It’s so dang cold this time of year (yesterday our high was 8 and it felt even colder thanks to the wind!) that I need a really warm blanket!!

  7. Those bread dumplings look AMAZING. Yum, yum!

Favorite thing from December? Can I say Eloise?! It’s so fun having a cat in my apartment! She’s such a sweetie.

  8. Cozy blankets for sure! I also loved how my house looked decorated for Christmas but was very happy to take it all down yesterday! And we’ll need to exchange addresses for next year’s cards – I LOVE holiday cards!

  9. I LOVE HOLIDAY CARDS TOO!

  10. I live in my cozy blanket. They are the best this time around.
I was wondering if there is a reason for you to switch from regular milk?! I’ve been substituting with oat milk for the last 3 years or so. I never liked the taste of milk itself and oat milk is more creamy maybe you like it too.
    Happy day
