Hiii, August. Welcome…. and stay a while, would you? We continue to race through this year with lightning speed, or so it feels. I am sure not really having a summer break has something to do with it.
What’s going on this month, you ask? Not much. I think. August will be somewhat low-key, or at least I hope so.
+ If August could lay off with the heat and make it happen for the horrible fires to stop here in our state, that would be truly fantastic. I know it’s a bit much to ask of August, it’s midsummer after all, but it’s been so hazy and smoky here recently and it’s not fun (and we haven’t even been directly impacted by all the fires that are burning in our state).
+ I’m taking a few days off from running this week (I always take 5 rest days or so after a race) to mentally and physically recover, but I am already looking forward to putting in some miles again this coming weekend.
+ My co-worker has been bringing in a lot of ‘extra harvest’ from her garden, mostly zucchini, tomatoes, and cucumbers and I am planning to make zucchini bread this weekend.
+ I am tentatively planning to visit the zoo. It’s pretty close to where we live and ever since I started seeing the giraffes peek over the fence on my runs, I’ve been wanting to go back for a proper zoo visit. Maybe we’ll make it happen in August.
+ I also think I’ll be watching more baseball, more distracting TV shows, and less news.
What’s up with you in August?

August 2, 2018 at 6:13 pmI hope you can make it to the zoo this month. I do like going to mine. I was just looking at some of the fun events they are doing this year and I SO want to go to at least one of them.

August 2, 2018 at 9:03 pmI’ve been keeping tabs on the fires over there. I have so many family members and friends who live in the area. Hoping for cooler temps, no winds, and maybe some rain to help the first responders get them under control!

August 7, 2018 at 4:28 pmOh, I hope your friends and family are ok…. the air quality has been so bad, I can’t even imagine to be even closer to where the fires are.

August 3, 2018 at 9:03 amMmm, I love zucchini bread. I didn’t plant any zucchini this year as I got kind of burned out on it last year but I am going to buy some zucchini at some point this summer so I can make some zucchini bread. My garden is starting to produce lots of green peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes. Yum! There’s nothing like fresh-grown produce!
The wild fires in CA are so sad. :(
I’m still adjusting to life back at work and trying to figure out a pre-work routine that WORKS AND DOESN’T MAKE US FEEL LIKE WE ARE RUNNING OUT THE DOOR. wE SWITCHED THINGS AROUND AND phIL IS DOING DROP OFF AND I’m DOING PICK UP, WHICH I MUCH PREFER! sO HOPEFULLY BY THE END OF august WE’LL HAVE A ROUTINE DOWN THAT LEAVES US FEELING A LITTLE LESS RUSHED IN THE MORNING!

August 7, 2018 at 4:28 pmHa, my co-worker – who brought in the zucchinis – wanted to get rid off them, too, because she had SO MANY. I guess it’s good to mix it up in the garden.
I can imagine how packed your days must feel like now that you’re back at work. I hope you find a good groove!

August 4, 2018 at 5:33 amLet’s see. My town, Meredith, turns 250 years old. SO there are parades and all sorts of things going on. If only the heat and rain would stop!
Taking care of Jack, who has a skin cancer on his nose. He went in for removal, but the pathology report showed they did not get it all and he needs Mohs Surgery. You know, I can really relate to that!
And taking care of Miss Greta. She had a rather dramatic fall yesterday but seems okay. But it made me aware that I need to be very careful with my disabled dackel!

August 7, 2018 at 4:29 pmOh how fun. Have a great time celebrating your town’s birthday! :)
And all the best for Jack and Greta.

August 4, 2018 at 9:05 pmUgh, those wildfires. I’m following them and it just breaks my heart.
My August will be pretty busy, but I’m looking forward to it. July was pretty quiet for me, so it’s good to have some things to look forward to on my schedule. :)

August 6, 2018 at 10:39 pmI think you I never had zucchini bread. Will you share the recipe?
Also those wild fires are scary. The current heatwave in Europe starts causing fires too. And then people say – climate change, no way…

August 7, 2018 at 4:30 pmI will share the recipe on my blog in the near future :) Stay tuned.
I know you had an awfully hot summer in Europe, too. I hope everyone stays safe.

August 7, 2018 at 6:30 pmAlways love to see what’s happening in your world, San! Zucchini bread sounds amazing.. Yay for coworkers who bring in the fruits of their harvest. Also I’m hoping the fires settle down soon, too. What crazy weather we’ve all had this summer, eh? It is so hot and icky and sticky here in the northeast too. I’m sure I’ll miss this in the winter when we are buried under six feet of snow, but I’m kind of over this summer :)

August 13, 2018 at 2:42 pmIt was not 90 degrees here today, and that was lovely! It’s been so, so hot and humid and I’m so over it. I ran this morning and the whole time I was thinking how ready I am for it to be fall and winter.
