11: 5 Sports/Activities You Wish You Had (more or any!) Time For

Today’s post is going to be a bit on a lighter note, although I am pretty certain I am not ready to stop talking about politics in the foreseeable future. I am linking up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for Friday Five 2.0 Linkup.

I am a person of many interests. It’s really hard for me to choose just one or two hobbies. I’ve been that way as long as I can remember. I’ve always wanted to try and do everything. I still do. Therefore at any given moment, I feel like there are sports/activities I wish I had time for. I randomly pick and prioritize things, but I always wish I had time to do more.

Here are 5 activities I wish I had (more — or any for that matter) time for:

1. Softball — as I mentioned in my last Friday Five post, I used to play softball in Germany. I loved it and I kinda miss it – but I know that even a just-for-fun softball team would require a major chunk of my time, which I am not able (or willing?) to set aside right now. Maybe some day.

2. Tennis — I also used to play tennis (on a team) in Germany. I have my racket here, but not really anybody to play with… and honestly, I haven’t held the racket in such a long time that I am afraid I would have to start over learning how to play.

3. Letter writing — I still write the occasional letter, but ever since adulthood and the Internet came along, I have done it significantly less (and that makes me sad). Blogging has in a way taken the place and I love blogging, but I also wish I had more time to write actual letters.

4. Playing the piano — my piano is sitting at my parents’  house and it’s not something I could easily pack up and bring with me to California. A couple of years ago, my then-neighbor lend me her keyboard that was sitting in her closet, so I had access to that for a while and while I loved it, I hardly played as often as I wanted to, because time. Sigh.

5. Photography — I love taking photos, always have. I was the person that always lugged her camera around, who people told to put the camera away, but later asked for the pictures. Yes, yes, the best memories are in your head, but there is nothing like a picture that will trigger that memory. I wish I could dedicate more time to actual photography (using my DSLR), but I guess having my iPhone + Instagram is at least something.

What activities would you like to do more often?

  1. If you will ever find the way to Portland, bring you tennis racket. I was a competitive player myself and also a coach. Let’s play! :) And I didn’t touch a racket eversince I got pregnant the first time. ;)

  2. I have so many different interests and hobbies. It’s so hard to find time for all of them! Right now I’m doing quite a bit of crocheting and knitting as I get more in the mood to do these activities in the fall/winter months. But I’m reading less as a result. I also would like to find more time to play my piano. I don’t play it nearly as much as I could/should! And then when it comes to being active, I’d like to be running more but my recovery is limiting that! In the summer, I’m so focused on running, usually, that I don’t have as much time to do other activities such as biking. And I’d love to learn how to golf as that’s Phil’s favorite sport. But I am such a beginner that I’d need to spend a lot of time at the driving range and would need to take some lessons but it’s tough to make time for that + running!

  3. Definitely photography! Also sleeping. I’d like more sleeping. Or does that not count?

  4. I’d have to say photography, too! I have a DSLR and I also have a book explaining all the different functions and settings and shows you how to take professional pictures. I think I got that 3 years ago, haven’t had the time to actually take a closer look into it, though.
Also reading. I used to be the girl that always had a book and her Walkman/Discman with her, sitting in the corner reading and listening to music, totally in her own little world. Now that I have two kids and a husband and a household to take care of I hardly ever read because in my spare time I usually sleep.
And baking!! I love baking, I wish I could make a living baking and selling cakes (talk about rules/regulations and bureaucracy here in Germany)…I’d love to bake more but don’t have enough people to eat all that cake! :)
