The gym hasn’t seen too much of me this week. I swear, it seriously is a time issue. Sure, I could get up an hour earlier every morning to squeeze in some gym time, but since I am already getting up freakin’ early (5:30 a.m.), I really can’t.
However, I made it a point to take the bus to work and get in a 15 minute-walk across Campus to my office every morning. Walking counts, right?
I think (or I am trying to convince myself that) I made some progress with the water drinking issue. I’ve been better about taking a 32 oz. bottle of water to work (and almost finishing it!) every day before leaving the office! Go me! That is a huge accomplishment for someone who hates drinking water. I can only hope that I’ll be able to keep it up (it’s not like I haven’t tried before and failed miserably).
My goals for this next week:
- Actually seeing the gym from the inside again.
- Cooking fresh and healthy meals (from scratch!) every night.
- Keeping “Operation Less Squishy” in focus and do some weights at the gym
(I tend to just hang out on the cardio machines and maybe do a few crunches – I know that I can do better than that.) - Getting enough sleep.
I know, this last goal doesn’t quite fit in with “being active”, but I’ve learned about myself that I am less likely to get in a workout, when I am not only completely burned out from a long work day, but also didn’t get enough sleep in the first place. Therefore, I really have to make it a habit to be in bed by 10 p.m. (lights off!).
7,5 hours are the minimum amount of sleep I should get every night (possibly more on the weekends!).
How I can tell that my body was just “burned” this week? I slept away the whole Saturday. It rarely happens that I just sleep away a whole day, but when it happens, I know that I was seriously running on empty.
How did your week go? What are your goals for the coming week?

February 8, 2010 at 4:43 amTo live through having 5 dogs (1 of which is a puppy that must still be walked each time he goes out!). 4 dogs I have learned to live with, and handle, but 5 is wild!

February 8, 2010 at 9:33 amWay to go on the water front. That was one of my big goals in getting healthier and I've started keeping a water bottle on my desk and setting calendar pop up reminders to remind me to keep chugging lol :) It's slowly getting more routine! Let's chat about meal plans – we're really trying to cook more from scratch meals too, which is also a huge change of pace – I'd love to swap recipes sometime :)

February 8, 2010 at 9:50 amI know what you mean about trying to squeeze in a morning workout – I have to get up at 5:30 am for work too, and getting up any early just isn't giong to happen!! We have a gym at work though, and classes are free, so I *can* work out at lunchtime (but usually don't because I don't want to sit at my desk looking grungy all afternoon!) I'd be interested in seeing some of your meal plans/recipes too – we could swap :)

February 8, 2010 at 11:08 amI know how hard it is to get up and go to the gym. I am so lazy when it comes to working out on a daily basis. I like your goals for the week :) I know you can do it!!!!!!
P.S. got another Blog Award for you on my site :)

February 8, 2010 at 5:42 pmGlad the water thing is going so well!
Gosh, my goals? Really just get back on track. I have been so off plan that I've actually been gaining. It's awful.

February 9, 2010 at 4:29 amOk, I don't know if it is an option, not only space-wise but also money-wise, but how about getting a Wii with Wii Fit? I got one last christmas (well, 2008) and due to being pregnant until May last year I haven't really used it much except for Mario Kart. :) But I have the Balance Board and occasionally on weekends use it for fun to do some aerobics and fun sports games with the family. Maybe would save the time you spend “going” (as in the walk/drive/commute) to the gym and make it easier to do it in the evenings…Just a thought.
As for my week…lack of sleep due to a 9 month old baby (goal is to find something that makes him sleep through the night), way to much coffee (due to lack of sleep) and lots of arguments with my 3-year old (due to being overtired, not enough coffee and because she is having another “phase” right now)
Overall goal: more sleep, less fighting, being a little more “balanced” and not so much stressing myself about things that are actually unnecessary to stress about (like dirty laundry, myriads of toys in the living room and dirty dishes – life actually is too short to stress about that – but I am a neat freak unfortunately)

February 9, 2010 at 7:16 amGetting enough sleep is such a huge deal, I am non-functional without it! And meal planning is a ton of fun- have you tried foodblogsearch.com for recipes? I found that not having to worry about what we have on hand and how we're going to balance that with what I want to eat has been huge. So much less stress and then cooking miraculously becomes fun!
My goal for this week is to run four days of the week. I'm struggling with school, but getting out and moving around makes a huge difference in my mental well being and in my ability to concentrate on school and at work.
Cross your fingers for me? ;)

February 9, 2010 at 2:44 pm“Operation Less Squishy” is probably my favorite name for a weight-loss program ever ;-)

February 9, 2010 at 2:54 pmCredit where credit is due… the phrase “Operation Less Squishy” was actually coined by Andrea, but I adopted it, because it's so cool!

February 9, 2010 at 2:58 pmFingers are crossed!
And thank you for the link to foodblogsearch.com!

February 9, 2010 at 2:59 pmThank you for the suggestion. Our apartment is fairly small and I don't even know if we would have enough space in front of the TV to play on the Wii, but I'll give it a thought. I know many people like it!

February 9, 2010 at 2:59 pmOh, tell me about the 'too much thinking'… I hear you!

February 9, 2010 at 4:03 pmWalking totally counts! I walk to the bus stop and back home almost every day (15 min each way). And also, I love you for being so committed to doing weights. I find it too boring even though I know it is important to build strength. Way to go!

February 9, 2010 at 6:55 pmGreat post. Particularly because I am contemplating some healthy changes of my own. But, yes, it is so hard to focus on our goals when life gets in the way. And that it does – and incessantly. I applaud you for setting goals for your own health and happiness and encouraging your readers to do the same.
(And thanks so much for your thoughtful comments on my blog. I hope you keep popping by ILI!)

February 12, 2010 at 9:56 amI am so with you on the sleep part – if I don't get enough rest I am absolutely useless when it comes to non-mandatory things like working out. Also, I love the term “Operation Less Squishy.”
