The last few days have been a blast

On Friday, J and I went to the premiere of “Pirates of the Caribbean – at World’s End”. I LOVE the trilogy.
We had been waiting for the third movie to come out for a long time. It was awesome. I really liked it. Johnny Depp aka Captain Jack Sparrow is just outstanding!
Here’s one little piece of advice, in case you want to go and see it… sit through the credits at the end.
Most people left the movie theater as soon as the credits started, but many times it is worth it to sit through them. You’ll understand why.

Here’s a picture of a billboard advertisement in Hollywood. I think it’s so cool.

Then Ute -who I have known for 4 or 5 years now- came to visit Los Angeles with Justin and her Mom. We HAD to meet up :)

They arrived on Saturday morning and were staying at a hotel in Hollywood. We met up around 5 p.m. at our apartment. We gave them a little tour of our place [really, literally a “little” tour, because it’s a small apartment ;)] and we talked for a while. It didn’t feel like our first meeting at all – something that I have experienced with many of the girls that I’ve got to know through the Internet and finally met in person :) we were totally comfortable around each other.

We then decided to go down to Santa Monica. Unfortunately, we came a little to late to see the sunset at the beach, but we walked on the Santa Monica Pier and then had some drinks at Mariasol Cocina Mexicana.

We had a great time talking and eating chips and salsa and the “girls” had coffee and the “guys” had beer ;)

We walked on the beach for a little bit and then got some take-out Thai food for a late dinner at our place.

On Sunday, it was our 1st anniversary and J and I had planned to go out to dinner.

We went to a really cute, little Italian restaurant in Westwood [Mio Babbo’s Italian Ristorante] and had a nice long dinner. We started out with some appetizers [Antipasti platter and shrimp] and then I had “Lobster Ravioli with spinach and mushrooms” and J had “Spaghetti with meatballs”. For dessert, we tried the “Tiramisu” [which was maybe a little too cold, but very delicious].
During dinner we opened our little “box of treasures” – the box with little notes that our guest had written on our wedding day and that we hadn’t been allowed to read for a whole year. Man, it was hard to wait that long, but it was worth it. J and I were equally moved by the sweet and heartfelt messages.

Monday morning, we met Ute, Justin and Ute’s Mom for breakfast in Hollywood, before they had to leave for the airport again. Damn, the time was just too short.

Too bad they don’t live closer. Too bad a lot of you people don’t live closer ;)

  1. Awww that really sounds like some perfect days you had, sweets!

Hehe, I thought it was a Swedish thing that nearly EVERYONE jumps out of their seats when the credits start, how stressful! I think they put some fun stuff in the end just because of that!

So great that you could meet Ute, her mom and Justin and show them around a bit! Time flies on occasions like that!

Anyway, good to hear you had some happy times!

  2. i’m so glad you enjoyed our “box of treasures”. i honestly don’t even remember what i wrote a year ago :) it sounds like a great weekend and we DO live too far away… big *smooch* to you, hun! :)

  3. Ah for a second there I thought you went to the premier with all the stars but I guess even in LA they have normal theaters, too. ;-)

I can’t believe it’s been 4 or 5 years since you’ve known Ute but yeah you’re right, I mean I already stayed with Ute in July 2003 so it really has been that even longer that we’ve all read and known each other. WOW!

And yes, I agree, you do live too far away!

  4. ahhhhhh now you made me cry again! we had so much fun! thank you so much for everything you guys did to make us feel comfortable! it was soo awesome, just way tooooo short!!! thanks also from mommy and justin. and dont worry we will be back. ;) das ist eine drohung. lol. hab dich lieb

  5. Sounds like the perfect weekend! I love meeting people I know through the internet. It’s fun!

  6. Man, that sounded like an awesome weekend!! I think it’s great that you opend the chest at your anniversery dinner – and I don’t remember what I wrote on there either. Great that you two had a blast! Love ya!

  7. Sounds like a wonderful weekend. Everyone needs a weekend like that every once in a while. Great story. Great pics. Great everything!!!

  8. THAT sounds like a perfect anniversary!
Ute is great, isn’t she? :)

  9. That sounds like a great weekend!!! Looks like you had a lot of fun with Ute, Justin and her mum. And it sounds like a great anniversary!

    Liebe Gruesse!!

  10. happy belated anniversary. i cant believe it has been a year already, i was truly shocked when i read that. all the best to you too!

  11. omg what a lovely weekend :-) I really love the idea of having the notes from your wedding guests to read. Is that a german custom? I wish we had thought of it. Its really sweet :-)

Thats great you got to spend some time with Ute. Wish we could visit too :-)

We are already thinking that when Sarah is 4, that would be a good time to visit Disneyland :-)

    Love ya

  12. I loved! the movie. It was bizarre at times, but really entertaining. I’m always sort of bummed when a good trilogy comes to an end, though. It leaves me missing characters. And well, who am I kidding? Missing Johnny Depp. Heh.

And hey! I need a password. At least I think I do. Unless I don’t. In which case: OK. But I want! a password, if that counts for anything. ; ) Loves to you babycakes.

  13. Happy belated anniversary! Sounds like a good weekend, and the idea with the box of notes is really sweet!! :)
I was wondering, could you e-mail me the password for your protected posts, if you don’t mind me reading them?! That’d be great, thanks.
