Summer tales – more Sacramento Impressions

I am recapping the three weeks of fun that I had with my family this summer.

The first few days, my parents and cousin had time to acclimate, get over their jet lag and explore Sacramento, while I was still at work.

Living in midtown does have its advantages, one of them being the fact that you can just walk out the door and explore the area on foot.

Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park is one of the many things you can visit in the vicinity. The fort was a 19th century agricultural and trade colony and was named after its builder, pioneer John Sutter.

A little further downtown is the local government hotspot, the California State Capitol. Arnie worked there (although I never crossed path with him while he was the governator).
The Neoclassical building is based on the U.S. Capitol building in Washington D.C.. It’s really pretty from the outside, but also very nice from the inside. I don’t think my parents  took the time to go inside and check it out. Bummer!

There is a pretty park to the East of the main building, called Capitol Park. J and I have walked there many, many times.

The Sacramento Convention Center is located across from Capitol Park , between L and J Street. It’s a pretty modern, concrete building with abstract artsy statues and embellishments.

The Sacramento Auditorium, which belongs to the Sacramento Convention Center Complex,  was constructed in 1926 and stands ins stark juxtaposition to the modernness of the Convention Center. The Auditorium is a multipurpose venue for concerts, graduation ceremonies, celebrations, and more.

Cars

My family also explored the area by car and checked out the Outlet Shopping Centers in the area.

Oh, and before I forget, we eventually stopped by at our local REI store (where I had just recently bought new hiking shoes) and got some hiking shoes for my Mom.

In fact, she ended up buying the same hiking shoes as the ones I got. They are really comfortable and we couldn’t wait to use them!
