Uff, and then life got away from me and May and June were different from what I was expecting… and here I am summerizing my last two months of goals again.
PERSONAL
- Read 2 books a month.
Yeah, no. I did not read anything in May, BUT I picked up books again in June (actually finished three). I am calling this a win.
- Use facemasks weekly when I do my Sunday meditation.
It’s not a weekly habit (yet), but I manage to do it once per month. If nothing else, it feels good right after I take them off.
- Prioritize sleep and rest.
After my incident in May, I am even more actively working on sleep and rest (especially the „rest“ part). I did hit my sleep goal of 7.5 hours and was even able to improve it in June. I mean, I’ll happily take more sleep. I also received 22 high or very high sleep scores in May, and 24 high or very high sleep score in June. I feel like overall, I cannot really complain about my sleep.

- Regularly walk with a friend (virtually or in person).
Yes! I continue regular lunch walks and I’ve started after-dinner evening walks (since my episode of palpitations in May).
- Find a running group, book club, or knitting group locally.
No progress made on that front. I really have to figure something out. I’d like to have some new local connections (I know I keep saying that, so don’t even listen to me. Haha.)
HEALTH/WELLNESS
- Complete (another) 365 Peloton Streak.
I am keeping my streak going and have earned a “blue dot” for 2014 consecutive days.
- Hit a weekly (not daily) average step count.
As a reminder, I am aiming for a weekly step count of 56,000 (an average of 8,000 daily steps). I stopped running for a couple of weeks in May and even though I tried to go for more walks, I didn’t quite hit my average step goal of 8000 steps. It’s ok, because I was able to pick it put again in June. I am not really paying attention to my daily steps, but just try to get into the mindset of running or walking most days.

- Keep up my yoga streak.
I missed a couple of days, but I am keeping my (almost) daily yoga going.
RELATIONSHIPS
- Date nights with Jon once a month.
Jon is hard to get out these days, but we went out for a nice dinner for our anniversary in May. We also had a takeout night in June.
- Visit Boston and meet up with my friend from Sydney.
As you know, that didn’t happen and I am still very sad about it. I will have to put this back on a future goals’ list.
- Reach out to friends more.
Yes, I’ve been making an effort to set up calls with my (overseas) friends more often and it’s been nice to feel a bit more connected. It’s still hard sometimes to find times that works for both parties. Because of the time difference, calls have to take place on the weekend.
- Continue monthly Teams Calls with Ingrid
Yes, I’ve been checking in with Ingrid both in May and June and we always have lots to talk about. I hope we will be able to continue our calls for a long, long time.
HOME
- Estate Planning
I met with an estate planner/trust attorney but we mostly discussed the current status of my mother-in-law’s estate and I got some guidance on that situation. We are planning to go back and meet with them to discuss our own estate planning. - Declutter/organize garage
Nope.
BONUS ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- I payed our quarterly estimated taxes. Not something I was looking forward to do, but it’s checked off my to-do list.
- I had lunch with my co-workers and we went for many lunch time walks over the last two months.
- After my health incident in early May, I’ve made changes to my workout and work schedules and I’ve been trying to focus on listening to my body and finding more pockets for rest and recovery.
- I caught up with my ex-coworker and it was nice to hear about their new job and how things are going.
- I started making my own granola again (variations of this recipe).
SOME NEW GOALS FOR JULY
- Try three new recipes.
- Keep up reading.
- Run the Davis Moo-nlight Run.
- Follow-up with my primary care doctor.
- Go to the pool four times.
How was your May/June?

July 4, 2026 at 6:06 amRest and recovery are such an important part of life, particularly at our stage of life, San, and I’m so glad you are prioritizing them! Sleep especially is the key to good health – I feel like when sleep falls off then everything follows. Of course, that is easier said than done, but having it as a top priority is the biggest step.
I’m sorry that it sounds like Jon is having a hard time lately. I’m glad you made it out for a nice anniversary dinner!
The time difference is tricky when it comes to keeping in touch. I know when we’ve travelled – or when our son was travelling – it was tricky to touch base with them.
Funny story about step counts. Thanks to Rex, I usually average around 13-15K steps a day. But when we were travelling, that fell off, particularly on days we had long flights. Sometimes I didn’t meet the goal at all. Garmin has me in a weekly step challenge and usually that challenge is 95-100K steps a week, but it turns out if you have a couple of low weeks, it kicks you out of that and puts you somewhere else! So I checked and I was in the 35K step group! This was AFTER I was home, so I was number one by a HUGE margin. Well, now I’m back in my regular group and am lucky to be in the top 5. Anyway, it’s just something funny that I laugh about, I don’t really get too worked up about step counts these days.

July 4, 2026 at 9:30 pmYou do not have to get worked up about your step count because you have a built-in step buddy, so if you go on vacation and don’t move much for a day (or three), that is only a blip on your screen of high step days! ;)
I agree. Sleep is so important. When you don’t sleep well, your whole body is off (I think this is partly one of Jon’s problem and one of the reasons he’s having a hard time sometimes. I wish I could give him some of my “good sleep genes”, hehe.

July 5, 2026 at 6:25 pmI used to be so obsessive about step counts. But then I got a dog. LOL. I am no obsessive anymore because she meanders, she sniffs, she lays down, she stands there staring in the middle distance. I mean, we are LUCKY to get a mile in an hour is what I’m saying. Instead, I’ve started focusing on time outside. Time outside with the dog is better than any of the days when I used to get 10K steps. (I have to tell myself this.)
I should set a sleep goal. I wonder if naps count? LOL. I could hit out of the park on weekends, but the weekdays I’m lucky to get 6.5 – 7 hours. I should do better.

July 6, 2026 at 9:22 amThat’s great that you read 3 books in June! That definitely offsets not reading as much as you had hoped in May.
May/June were such a blur between end of school events and then school ending on June 10th. It seems like the boys have been out of school for way longer, though! I didn’t travel for work at all in June and I only have 1 trip in July and 1 in August. I am really appreciating being home more and not being in airports!!

July 6, 2026 at 12:54 pmThis sounds like an excellent pairing of months, with a ton of things accomplished. I really admire your weekly step goal instead of a daily one, that takes some of the pressure (and shame????) off of achieving the goal. And look at all the personal connections you are making and maintaining!

July 6, 2026 at 2:10 pmI love that you are getting more sleep. I think that’s clutch. The missed friend hang out in Boston hurts my heart on your behalf, so I can only imagine how hard it is for you. Summer is a better time for me to read, which I love. I laughed at ‘declutter: nope’. I did a lot of decluttering when getting ready for the grad party, but there’s still more to do.

July 8, 2026 at 5:05 amWay to go on getting great sleep! That’s the most important thing and something I really need to work on.
Having a weekly step goal average is so smart. It can be kinda demoralizing to look at my daily step count some days, lol.

July 11, 2026 at 5:25 amI think you are really doing great on all the goals. And rest and recovery and relaxing is so so important. I am amazed with your sleep but glad to see it. I am pretty happy with my sleep but I am miles away from yours.
I wish my husband was more fond of getting out of the house and do some fun stuff but he is so tired and exhausted I can only manage a 10 min evening stroll these days. I guess that’s the imbalance of one person going to the office and one never leaving the house.
