Turns out it’s pretty good waking up early. “There was so much day ahead of me! So many hours to be alive. […] I felt like I had already lived an entire day only to have another one sprawling before me.”

The Other Talk. “The first thing people see when they look at you is your skin color. People will look at your skin and all they will see is black. It doesn’t matter what you accomplish in life. If you become a doctor, a lawyer, a movie star — they will look at you, and the first thing they will see is your blackness.”

January 19, 2021 at 7:32 amLoved the National Parks article! We went to Zion and the Grand Canyon last year and now are obsessed with visiting them all. We definitely contributed to the Instagramming!

January 20, 2021 at 7:47 amOne of the screen savers on our Amazon fire stick is the horseshoe in AZ (not sure this is part of a National park?) but it makes me think of you when I see it as I remember you sharing photos of it on your blog! Would love to see it in person some day.
I look forward to a time when it works to run in the morning! I am hoping to return to running this year but will probably run during lunches when back at work. But in 1.5-2 years both our boys should be sleeping better and I can run in the morning on weekends. Early morning long runs were always my fave!

January 25, 2021 at 1:02 pm//That syllabus is hilarious. I laughed out loud. Thanks for that!
Also? That mushroom, farro, and kale stew sounds wonderful – although I’d replace the kale with spinach as kale is the ONE vegetable my body hates.
And finally, I am beyond impressed with your knitting skills if you’re even *considering* knitting a piece of clothing. Whoa.

January 26, 2021 at 3:57 pmI frequently replace spinach with kale in recipes, so definitely go for it. I also made the soup last weekend, but didn’t do the “vegan” (cashew) version but replaced it with a cup of half and half. It was delicious!
I’ll let you know if I ever work up the courage to try knitting a piece of clothing.
