I thought for a second that time was slowing down a little bit in October, but NOPE, not the case. We’re less than a week away from NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month). Are you all ready?
I don’t think that if you have found this post – or have been around for a while – you don’t know, what NaBloPoMo is, but just in case, I’ll give you a quick rundown.
NaBloPoMo stands for National Blog Posting Month and was created by Eden Kennedy in 2006. She had failed at NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) the previous year and decided that writing a novel was too hard, but writing a blog post every day for a month was more doable.
Back in the day, thousands of bloggers participated in this fun community challenge every November. In 2010, Kennedy relinquished NaBloPoMo to BlogHer, where it was hosted until 2016. Since then, NaBloPoMo participation numbers have taken a nose-dive. I am not sure if it was because there was no official hosting platform anymore, or if people just moved on to other platforms or stopped blogging altogether.
There have been splinter efforts over the years to continue and revive this blogging challenge with mediocre success, but I personally have participated every year since 2006 and I have no intention to stop and have been unofficially “hosting” the challenge for the last decade.
I hope you’re excited to know that I will be hosting NaBloPoMo again. Please spread the word and invite others. Or, if you just want to be the support squad again – that’s fine, too! We appreciate you!
I’ve seen a few of you mention NaBloPoMo in recent posts, so I am pretty confident in my assumption that I won’t be attempting “30 posts in 30 days” alone this year and that makes me very happy. I’ve been a bit on the struggle bus again with regular posting lately (I seriously need more hours in the day!), but I am determined to get another kickstart with NaBloPoMo.
There are no official prompts that you have to follow, you can write about whatever you want or you can just post a picture. Just in case you need some inspiration, I am sharing my list of Five Things prompts that you can feel free to use at random, and also the NaBloPoMo Blog Post Ideas list that Engie put together a couple of years ago. I will link to both lists on the NaBloPoMo page.
This is a low pressure challenge. There’s no NaBloPoMo-police. Nobody’s going to get shamed, if they miss a day, and nobody needs to feel obligated to go read and comment on every blog post (we all know it’s impossible!). This is just an opportunity to flex your writing muscle, find some new friends, and just have fun.
If you want to give it a try, come join us!
If you do participate, please use the hashtag #NaBloPoMo2026 on social media, so I can find you (and promote your posts!). As always, I’ll keep a running list of participants on my NaBloPoMo page. Please also feel free to use the NaBloPoMo image (at the top) for your blog posts or in your blog sidebar to promote our community and link back to the NaBloPoMo page, if you want!
