Currently | February

Hi friends, I am sliding into your reader with my Currently post for February! It’s a short month and I barely made it.

LOOKING FORWARD TO | March. I am going to have a visitor! It’s my birthday month! I’ll be going to Germany. Not quite ready for March to be here (like, didn’t we just celebrate the New Year?) but trying to embrace it nonetheless. My friend Tanja is coming to visit next week and will be here for my birthday. I mean, what a gift! I am beyond stoked! It’ll be so nice to have a friend here! And then, in just a little while, I’ll be seeing my family again.

READING | Inhale, Exhale by our beloved friend Nicole. I haven’t finished yet and therefore won’t comment on it yet. I also won’t be hitting my “2 books a month” quota, and it’s only February,  but that’s ok… at least I got started on a second book for this month (after slogging through The Age of Innocence)! That’s something!

BUYING | silly potted plants at Trader Joe’s. This should have been a FIG.

EATING | Granny Smith apples. I know, I know, there are so many other delicious kinds of apples out there, but I always come back to the Granny Smith. I love the crispness and tartness, and the other good thing is that you can usually find it year-round. It pairs so well with almond butter, too.

DRINKING | water, coffee, electrolytes.

AVOIDING | the news, because seriously, WTF?

THINKING ABOUT | that today would have been my mother-in-law’s 80th birthday. So much has changed in a year. We probably would have been down in SoCal to celebrate her if she were still here.

ENJOYING | the blue skies! We’ve still been dealing with some incredibly foggy mornings lately, but when the sun comes out, the skies are beautiful! I think spring might be on its way!

WEARING | shorts and tank tops for running! In February! Not every day, but some days!

AMAZED | how quickly the little owlets grow up. I feel like they were just born, but look how much they’ve grown. And look at the beautiful colors of its feathers! (A colleague took the picture through binoculars – the owls are close to my office window, but not that close.)

How was your February? Did it fly by for you as well?

  1. Feb went by too fast but I enjoyed the no travel month. March will be busy with 3 trips already.
So nice to have a visitor and visit family in Germany. It makes birthday more special.

  2. February might be short on paper, but it’s a LONG month.
Yay for birthday month and the trip home!

  3. February had lots of highs (anniversary trip, snow, icy temperatures, excitement) and lows (sickness again, tough work situations for both of us).
So happy you get to see Tanja and go home. March is defiantly competing for best month, no?
As for reading… I didn’t read a single book in February. I don’t think this has happened in over a decade. So in my book your are crushing it.

  4. Awwww! I am so glad you’re enjoying the book!
How exciting to have a visitor and a trip to see your family in the near future. I love that!
Happy birthday, San! I hope you have a wonderful day and all the best in the year to come. xo

  5. February did fly by… nothing sure how. It’s also a short month… unfortunately my father is slowly losing his mind and will soon be placed into a center. My mom cannot deal with him anymore, she is scared because he will have these rage episodes… ugh so tough. At the center they will work with him physically and psychologically.

  6. I can’t even with the politics. I’m glad your friend will be here for your birthday, and then a trip home! YAY!

It was almost 80 here yesterday, which was a little ridiculous. We were at a birthday party and the a/c came on. Back to more seasonable weather now, though sadly no rain in our forecast.

  7. I had so many adventures in February! I have a little spot in my journal for favorite moments of the month and it was super hard to even think of things for January, but February was amazing. Let’s hope that continues in to 2026!

Yay for a visiting friend! Yay for a trip home! So much to look forward to!

  8. I’m so excited that you will have Tanja there to celebrate your birthday with you! How lovely!! Very happy that March will be a great month for you. I can’t believe how warm it is right now. I think it’s supposed to get up to 85 here this week – how crazy!

I love a Granny Smith apple. I always find they have the best crisp texture and flavors. I’ve been on an orange kick lately though. I feel like I go through cycles with fruit and will devour one thing at a time!

That owl is INCREDIBLE. It doesn’t even look real. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an owl up close. Just beautiful.

  9. Hooray for lots of things to look forward to in March! I’m so glad. You deserve that for your birthday month!
Granny Smith apples are the only apples I will eat, LOL. I love a tart apple!

  10. That owl is so adorable!! I am not sad to see the month of February go because that means we are one more closer to warmer, more mild weather! February did go by quickly. It was a busy month with 2 work trips + hosting a friend for the weekend. March will be busy, too, as I have 2 work trips and then Paul and I go to the DC area to visit my sister for 4 months. Happy birthday month to you!!

  11. I cannot wait for you to share how March was, once we get to April. I hope it was all amazing – seeing a friend for your birthday AND then seeing your family AND going skiing? So glad you get to have these bright spots right now. <3
