29: Five Things on my Christmas Wishlist

New running shoes

Where are my fellow runners at? Do you find that new shoes are always on your wishlist? Or do you refrain from putting it on a wishlist and just buy the goddamn shoes when the old ones need replacement? I bought my current running shoes in the spring, and that doesn’t seem so long ago, but in running shoe years, they’re becoming ancient really fast.

A new Garmin watch

My current Garmin (Forerunner 235) has been my trusty companion since 2016, and I am thoroughly impressed by how well it’s been holding up for almost a decade. However, like with all things tech, the watch is becoming a little dated, and worse, the battery has started to go. When I ran my marathon last year, I was seriously worried that the watch might die before I finished the race. That did not happen, but it was close, and because of that (and some other reasons), I’d really love to upgrade my running watch. Do you have a recommendation? Or has anyone ever replaced a battery on their Garmin?

A new planner

It’s that time of the year again when I am starting to think about a new planner. Thank you for all the suggestions, Sarah, that you left on a previous blog post. I’ve been researching and checking out different options, as I seem to be a little bit picky. I prefer spiral-bound, simple (not too flashy or colorful) design layouts with space for someone with large handwriting (me!). I work well with weekly layouts and some space for goal-setting, but it doesn’t have to be overboard. Preferably, the paper is nice and thick, and pens don’t bleed through. Oh, and I prefer planners on the larger side (but not letter-size). I am still taking suggestions.

A Ninja Creami

This ice cream maker keeps showing up in my feed. I don’t „need“ it, but I want it. I am usually a salty snack kinda girl, but ice cream is my weak point. I’d love to make some healthier options, and I’ve read so many good things about the Creami. Do you have one? Do you know someone who has one? Can you vouch for it? I am so intrigued.

A subscription for Nutrafol

Ever since Nicole mentioned Nutrafol and what it has done for her hair, I want to try it. I have very fine hair to begin with, and yes, I am shedding, and it could use some help. The price tag has been a bit of a deal breaker for me, though. I have been tempted to buy it and try it when I saw it was on sale, but then I thought, “if I start taking it, I’ll have to take it for a while to really assess the effects, and if I like it, then I have to keep buying it”. Haha. What a dilemma. So yeah, universe, if you hear me and would like to pay for a subscription? I would be so appreciative.

What’s on your wishlist?

  1. These are some really good wishes. Hope a few get fulfilled.

I am on the fence of splurging on an Apple Watch today. Mine is also many years old and all the new features (sleep apnea, workout trackings, etc.) are not available. And it does motivate me to see it. The husband keeps telling me to splurge on it but I keep wondering if it’s really necessary sine mine is still working. It is really hard to buy things for myself though.

  2. I want all of those things, too! Middle aged ladies unite!

  3. Oh YES. The Nutrafol is super expensive, especially for me as I have to pay both exchange and shipping. But I can tell you that I have been on it for three years now and it really does work. The problem is that you do have to keep taking it, though.
Your Garmin held up really well! My first Garmin died after three years!

  4. I hope that Santa will come through. It’s definitely work looking into getting the battery replaced on your Garmin. I’ve never done it, but I’ve replaced the batteries in laptops and phones and it was always fairly cheap and gave me a few more years on the device.

  5. I wonder if biotin alone would be helpful for hair growth/anti-thinning? I’ve heard yes but haven’t tried it myself. I love how your wishlist supports your hobbies! I never think I run a high mileage (I don’t), but running shoes wear quickly. I know if I’ve gone way too long if I start having lower back pain from running. It’s happened to be a couple of times, so I try to get a new pair before that happens.

  6. I’ve been struggling to come up with ideas for things I would like, and your list helped me. I don’t need new shoes (just got some recently) but I work from home and pretty much live in my Vionic slippers, so I am going to ask for those!

I like Franklin Planner. I use a small pocket sized one with a month at a time, but they have a TON of options. Basically you buy the planner (the case) and then the calendar separately, and you buy new refills on the paper calendars every year. They have a lot of things you can put in there besides your calendar, too. Like goals or addresses or whatever. I think the original was by Steven Covey, author of 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The only bad thing about it is that I don’t think you can buy it in person anymore, only online. But the quality of the paper and so on is really good.

  7. What’s this ice cream maker of which you speak? Hmm. Sounds like something I’d love. I’m not really expecting anything for Christmas. We just ordered new exterior garage doors and door openers, etc. big ticket item. I’d love a fireplace with an auto start feature. We have the fireplace, so how hard could it be to make it so that I just flip a switch and have a fire?

  8. I just bought new running shoes on Wednesday as I had a $15 fleet feet award credit that was expiring. I always get my shoes at the store in our neighborhood. I am sure I could get them for less but I like buying local! I’ll be sad if the running store ever closes!

The only person that buys me a gift is my MIL and she is likely getting me a massage gift certificate which is what I prefer. Phil and I don’t exchange gifts. If we want something, we buy it. Or really it’s me buying something since Phil doesn’t really seem to want much of anything!!

  9. I always just buy running shoes when I need them, but my Garmin was a birthday/Christmas present. I replaced it for similar reasons to you, the battery was just not lasting, I had been getting G to share his hikes with me because there was no way it would last for a full day, but the marathon would have been touch and go. I got a Forerunner 265S and love it. I can go ages without charging it. G and I don’t really do gifts for each other because we just tend to buy what we need when we need it. G is not good with delayed gratification.

  10. I do LOVE my Sprouted Planner and I think there are usually some good deals on (especially with…is it Amanda’s favourites???).

I want an Instant Pot for Christmas (and my husband already bought it) and both my Crockpots (which were 20 years old) died of various things, so I am getting a Crockpot. How exciting, right? But it’s what I really want! That and some of my favourite chocolate and candy.

  11. I’m not a runner but I buy running shoes as soon as I need them or I am in pain really quickly.
My daughter’s housemate is big-time athletic and loves her Ninja Creami – she makes ice cream with just protein powder and milk, and ny daughter said she was surprised at how good it was.

  12. Oooooh I have admired Nicole’s hair for so long, and I have been very tempted by the Nutrafol! I hope Santa comes through for you!
The Ninja Creami is in all my feeds, too, and I have definitely started to feel “influenced”! It looks so cool and delicious!

  13. I bought myself an expensive planner on Thanksgiving, lol, and it arrived this week. It’s SO cute and I can’t wait to use it. Let’s hope I do!

On my wish list is a new Kindle, a reading chair for a corner of my office, and a new pair of TOMs.

    1. Oh, which planer did you get? Curious minds want to know!
