Archives for August 2013
Two weekends ago, J and I decided to do what we should do more often: head out to San Francisco for the day. Even though we live relatively close to the City (only 1,5 hours + BART ride), we don’t go as often as we’d like to. This time we just got up on Saturday morning and went!
We have this little routine when we go to the Bay Area that we park our car in Rockridge (East Bay) and have brunch at Rockridge Café before taking BART into the city. Their apricot scones are to die for!
Then we took BART to the Embarcadero and from there walked along the piers all the way to Fisherman’s Wharf. We got so lucky, it was a beautiful and sunny day with a little bit of a cool breeze. Just perfect! See for yourself!
We treated ourselves to some super-expensive ice-cream at Pier 39 (you gotta live a little!)…
… and then made our way over to the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park, found a spot on the grass and just relaxed for an hour with a beautiful view of the historic Balclutha sail ship and the Golden Gate Bridge.
We walked all the way out to Fort Mason Municipal Pier to catch a closer look at the Golden Gate and a beautiful view of the city’s skyline.
I honestly don’t get tired of this, do you?
Later in the afternoon, we had coffee in North Beach at Washington Square, found a cute Italian restaurant for dinner and then headed back to Sacramento around 9 p.m. with the promise to do this soon again!
I hope I am not going to jinx it by saying this, but the weather here in Northern California has been absolutely perfect for the last couple of weeks. I mean, it’s August, people, and the temperatures have been hovering around 90-95ºF. Uhm yeah, pretty much unheard of for August. We had a nice relaxing weekend.
On Friday, I checked out a German deli that I knew existed, but it kind of “out there” and not really on the way to anything, so I hadn’t been there for quite some time, but oh they joy! I found some German goodies that I haven’t had for a really long time. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I had whole grain bread with Blutwurst and lots of mustard for dinner! It was delicious.
We watched “Ted” on Friday night and I must say I found the movie much more entertaining (and laughed out loud a couple of times) than I anticipated. It’s still a very unexpected movie choice for Mark Wahlberg.
On Saturday, we mostly ran errands, did our grocery shopping and I cooked Thai Red Curry for dinner (and wondered once again, why I don’t do that more often. It was delicious!)
Sunday morning was time for the Farmers Market again. I am currently obsessed with the Farmers Market and ALL THE DELICIOUS THINGS. As you can tell from the photo, I’m also quite crazy about strawberries right now. $10 bucks for 6 baskets? I couldn’t pass that up!
Later in the afternoon, we went to Oldtown and walked by the river . The breeze is always fantastic and it was just a beautiful day.
I don’t really get tired of this view. Do you?
These photos are actually from two weekends ago, when I went to my friend Susi’s daughter’s first birthday party. I forgot to share back then, but thought I throw them in here for good measure.
Other good things this weekend:
