2023 Weekly Run Down 15/52 – Family time!

I am linking up again for the Weekly Run Down with Kim and Deborah.

I am currently in Germany, spending quality time with my family. Even though my workout routine was nothing like it usually is, I was able to complete classes for my two on-going Streakers365 Challenges this week and stay active with my family.

This week, I went hiking in the Eifel and the Teutoburg Forest, I walked a few times with my mom (who is an avid walker!), and for the first time in a long time, I picked up my tennis racket. I used to play tennis regularly before I moved to the US (my Dad used to be a tennis trainer and my sister and I grew up playing) and I miss it. It’s really been a fun week!

Monday:
  • 20 Min EDM Walk – Adrian (12/6/21)
  • 3:20 hrs Just Walk Outdoor
  • 5 Min AFO Post-Run Stretch: Alanis Morissette – Tobias (8/19/22) — Dancing in the Rain Challenge

I went hiking with my family in the Eifel, a low mountain range in Western Germany and eastern Belgium.

Tuesday:
  • 20 Min Hip Hop Walk – Adrian (12/9/22) — Dancing in the Rain Challenge
  • 80 Min Just Walk Outdoor
  • 46 Min Just Walk Outdoor

In the morning, I went walking with my mom and her friend and in the afternoon, my sister and I walked her neighbor’s dog.

Wednesday:
  • 10 Min Energizing Meditation – Aditi (2/27/23) — Spring into Self Care

I started my morning with some meditation, because I knew I wouldn’t have a lot of time for workouts. My mom, sister and I went on a little overnight trip to visit a family friend in the Teutoburg Forest area.

Thursday:

  • 30 Min 2010’s Walk – Olivia (1/14/22) — Dancing in the Rain Challenge
  • 1:14 hrs Just Walk Outdoor

We had decided to check out the “Externsteine” and the Hermannsdenkmal while we were in the Teutoburg Forest area. They were worth a visit and I got to spend more quality time with my mom and sister.

Friday:
  • 10 Min Yoga Flow – Anna (1/9/21) — Spring into Self Care
  • 30 Min R&B Walk – Rebecca (10/15/21) — Dancing in the Rain Challenge
  • 2:21 hrs Just Walk Outdoors

I started my day off with some morning yoga and then went walking again with my mom. She knows so many great walking routes around my hometown. It was a beautiful day!

Saturday:
  • 10 Min Sleep Meditation

I spent the whole day hanging out with my family. I didn’t record a walking activity, although I almost walked 10k steps, so I earned my blue dot (Peloton streak) with a sleep meditation.

Sunday:
  • 1:26 hrs Just Cardio (Tennis)

I got to play tennis again for the first time in years! I used to play regularly and miss playing in a team. I am so glad my Dad asked if I wanted to go and hit some balls again. My sister, niece and nephew came along too. I was worried that I wouldn’t know how to play anymore, but I think I did ok. I just need to practice again.

Streaker365 Challenges:

I am almost finished with the Dancing in the Rain Challenge and I am chipping away at the Spring into Self Care Challenge. I love that these challenges do keep me engaged, even if it’s only short sessions. I am just doing what I can right now.

This week’s stats:

Walking: 19 miles
Yoga: 10 min
Meditation: 20 min
Tennis: 86 min

I had a great week, I hope yours was good, too!

  1. Sounds like you are having a fabulous time with your family in. Germany. Your mom looks so young. I used to play tennis when I was little but also have not played in a long time.

    1. Thank you, Deborah. I relaid your compliment to my mom :) So cool to hear you also played tennis when you were younger.

  2. Sounds like you’ve had a fabulous trip! I love that your family is so active, especially your mom and all her walking. I wish I could get my mom to do something. My dad does some walking and cycling, but my mom reads the paper, LOL.

    1. My Mom really started walking when she retired and I love that she’s so active now. I know it will be good for her in the long run.

  3. Looks like a great week in Germany! It’s nice that your family is so active. Has it been a long time since you’ve seen your family?

    1. My family visited me here in the states last summer (after a twice postponed vacation because of Covid), so it’s been 9 months since I last saw them… not THAT long in the grand scheme of things, but long enough for me ;) We’re very close, so it’s hard being so far away from them.

  4. I’m so happy for you that you are visiting your family! Enjoy!

    1. Thanks so much, friend.

  5. Wow, that is a lot of walking! Your whole week sounds amazing- it’s fun to do something completely different (tennis) and also spend so much time with your family. Those hikes sound incredible, and I love the photo of the walk around your hometown.

    1. It’s been so fun to do something completely different from my usual routine (like, more walking and playing tennis)… :)

  6. Wow! It’s so great that you can remain active when you’re with your family. My family tends toward the couch potato side of things, so I tend to get a bit lazy when I’m with them. It’s lovely to see you all doing such fun things together!

    1. “couch potato side of things” LOL that made me laugh…. but I agree, I am glad my family likes to be active. I guess that’s where I got it from.

  7. What a great trip! I’m so glad you’ve had such a lovely – and adventurous/active – visit with your family.

    1. Thanks friend! I appreciate it <3

  8. It’s so great to see you having so much fun with your family! Love the photos!

  9. I love that you’ve gotten lots of walks in during this visit home. That is one of my favorite ways to connect with others!! And how fun to pick up your tennis racket again!

    1. Thank you Lisa! I really has been fun to do some different things this week with family :)

  10. Looks like a beautiful getaway! So nice you are spending time with your family. Enjoy!

  11. Love to see these pictures of your travels in Germany! I have only been to Berlin and want to explore more of the country while we’re living in Europe. Will have to pick your brain for recommendations since you’re an expert!

    Sounds like a wonderful week!

    1. Thanks Jessie! You should definitely take advantage of being so close to other European countries! Hit me with questions anytime! :)

  12. Glad that you are getting to enjoy so much time with your family! I love to walk. I wish I lived in a more walkable place, although we do have nice hiking (it’s just often too far away).

Congrats on getting to play tennis too!

    1. Thanks Judy, I appreciate it :) I understand about walking/hiking places to be too far away to regularly take advantage… I do hope you can make it happen some time!

  13. I love this SO MUCH, San. So, so much. I’m over the moon that you got this time with your family. Your joy – and theirs – just radiates through the pictures.

This also makes me want to go back to Germany, but first I have so many other places to visit for the first time! Argh… too many beautiful places in the world. <3

  14. I am amazed how you fit in so many workouts even though you are on vacation. I guess it is a lifestyle for you and it just needs to be in your day.
