Currently | February

SAVORING | the first cup of coffee in the morning.

FEELING | frustrated with some communications at work. Why can’t some people just be clear in their writing and straight-forward in their message, for the love of all Germans? Are you the native speaker, or am I?

WEARING | my dusky pink corduroy pants. They don’t make them like they used to.

WONDERING | if I start getting forgetful, because I was just about to sign up for the San Francisco Half Marathon this week, when I realized that I am already registered. How did that slip my mind? I dropped a non-trivial amount of money on that registration.

READING |  Becoming by Michelle Obama. It finally became available through the library, just when I finished my last book. Great timing!

EATING | more bread, because #breadisnottheenemy.

DRINKING | Odwalla fruit smoothie. The Mo’Beta reminds me of multivitamin juice from Germany. It’s not something you should drink every day or in large quantities (because of the fruit sugar content, which of course is still not as bad as added sugar, of which this smoothie has none), but it’s so good!

FINISHED | our tax return. Get it out of the way, people. It feels so good to get it done. Especially when you’re expecting a refund.

LOVING | the blue and cloudy skies this time of year!

CONTEMPLATING | running the first race of the year in March. I haven’t signed up yet and while I’ve been running, I haven’t followed a training plan in the last few months. I guess there is a little more time to think about it.

ENJOYING | my afternoon tea. I’ve been bringing a thermos to work and it’s been life-changing (if you want me to be a bit dramatic) but seriously, if it wasn’t for tea, I’d probably be severely dehydrated most of the time.

LOOKING FORWARD TO | my birthday month. Everybody should celebrate their birthday all month long and I am planning to do just that.

What’s up with you currently?

  1. I hope you love Becoming as much as I did! I am confident it will be my best book of 2019. She’s so relatable and just an all-around awesome person.

I used to file my taxes ASAP, too. But now that I file jointly we usually wait until April. Phil has some non-w2 income and he usually doesn’t get the form he needs to file that income until late Feb or early March. And we had to pay in last year as I’m guessing we’ll pay in again this year even though we made an additional tax payment in December. So there’s no rush for us to file. :( I usually like filing taxes but this year will be more complicated as I sold my condo that I was renting out last year so that makes things a bit more complex…

I did a currently post today, too! I’m currently really over winter and all the snow we’ve been getting but it doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon.

  2. I love bread, especially when it is fresh out of the oven :)

  3. I agree, birthdays should be a month long! And yes bread is not the enemy! We’ve been enjoying a lot of bread this winter.

  4. Just finished the last of my Klosterbrot bought at a German Deli in Florida. (froze it) I’m making Nurnberger Bratwurst for dinner with red cabbage and mashed potatoes. Reading “We Two: Victoria and Albert: Rulers, Partners, Rivals” by Gillian Gill. A very good book about Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
Planning a trip back to Florida for my friends Memorial Service. Bitter Sweet.

  5. Ugh, I SO need to get our taxes together & done. Alas, we are NOT expecting a refund…

  6. Ah, I love corduroy. I saw some pants at Target in corduroy and I’m hoping to get some. We’ll see if I can find my size. LOL And yay for reading Becoming. My mom is reading her copy right now, so I hope to borrow hers when she’s finished.

    -Lauren

  7. Our taxes have gotten more complicated over time, so we’re going to finally find someone to check ’em out for us. :/ It’ll cost more, but hopefully will be worth it. So they’re not done yet, but I’ve got a lot of docs to gather!

  8. That first cup of coffee is life ❤️ I swear if I ever had to stop drinking it, well, I’m not sure what I would do. Also we finished our taxes a bit earlier this year too: just waiting to hear back from the accountant but 🤞 we don’t owe this year.

Also Becoming is so good! I keep thinking about it. And Michelle. And how much I miss having a normal presidency.

Hope you have a great weekend, my sweet!

  9. High fives for the first cup of coffee in the morning. Miscommunication at work sucks. Sorry to hear that. Happy weekend

  10. I love when one of my holds comes in just when I finish another one. Small victories haha. I’m looking forward to getting my taxes done this Thursday. I always try to schedule my appointment for late February. Hooray for birthday month- enjoy!

  11. I waited to file my taxes because I wasn’t expecting a refund, but I was surprised to find out that I’ll be getting a nice little refund. But I don’t really blame people for waiting! It can be such a complicated process.

Becoming was my favorite book of 2018. Michelle is so wise and has such a beautiful soul. I can imagine you will love it as much as I did!
