Hello May

Wow, it’s May. It’s hard to believe. My mind is still kind of somewhere in the middle of February. I feel like we just celebrated New Year’s. But alas, we just left the first third of the year behind us. May is going to be a busy, but fun month for me.

+ I’ll start off this month with fieldwork. When you read this, I will be somewhere in Sonoma County tracking down hydrological data. I mean, I admit, it could be much worse. It’s nice in Sonoma this time of year and it’s nice to get out of the office every once in a while.

+ Then, in a couple of weeks, I will be going to a Women’s Wellness Retreat with my friend Susi for the weekend and I am so excited. I wanted to do something like this for a long time. Have you been to a retreat? I cannot tell you how much I need some downtime (+ girl time!) after my travel home fell through in March. I also haven’t seen Susi since January, which is way too long.

+ Later this month,  I’ll be attending the wedding of one of my dear friends and I am so thrilled that I was able to work that out between work and other commitments. Sadly, I haven’t been able to attend many of my friend’s weddings in the past (sometimes living so far away truly sucks!), so I am really looking forward to witnessing these two lovely people tie the knot. It’s going to be so much fun!

+ Fun fact: my friend is getting married on the same day that J and I got married (12th freakin’ years ago  – I don’t even know how that is possible). This is so cool that we’re going to share our anniversary!

+ Other than that, I am hoping to run, read, and knit. What else is new?

What’s going on with you in May?

  1. Jack turns 80 on May 4th. Then there is Mother’s Day to share with my daughter and grandchildren, and perhaps a quick visit to see my sister. Oh yes, and crochet!

    1. Happy birthday to Jack! The big 8-0!

  2. We’re celebrating 12 years of marriage this May too! Woo hoo! Sounds like you do have a busy month ahead but it sounds like wonderful things, that Women’s Retreat sounds amazing! I hope you enjoy it!

    1. Oh damn, I just asked you in your blog how long you’ve been married… that’s amazing that you’re also celebrating your 12th anniversary this month! Time flies!

  3. Please share more about the retreat! That sounds amazing!

    1. I definitely will. I am so curious!

  4. Enjoy the wedding and month!

  5. It can be hard when friends live far away, but I’m so glad you’re getting to make it to her wedding. That’s such a special opportunity to be a part of.

    1. I know right? I am so happy I can make it happen this time.

  6. Aw, that’s too fun your friend will have the same wedding anniversary as you. And I’m really glad you are able to attend the wedding!! That wellness retreat sounds amazing – I can’t wait to hear all about it!

    -Lauren

    1. I’ll definitely share my experience at the retreat. I am curious how it’s going to go!

  7. Sounds like you have some fun things planned for May!

    1. Yes :) I am excited.

  8. Awesome. I haven’t been to a wedding for a long time, so that sounds like fun. So cool that you’ll share an anniversary too. And that retreat sounds fantastic. I’ve never been to one, but have always wanted to.

    1. I’ll definitely share the retreat experience. I am so curious! I hope it’s all I want it to be.

  9. It’s the calm before the storm at work since timing of our “busy season” got pushed to June. It’s pretty hard to believe that we’re already in May.

    1. It’s crazy that we’re already in May.

  10. That is great that you get to travel for your job – enjoy!
Sounds like a lovely month ahead – hope you blog about that retreat. I’ve never been to one but they sound amazing!
Hubby and I are also married 12 years this year (December) :)

    1. Oh wow, you’ve also been married for 12 years. time flies!!

  11. Sounds like a fun May for you! I keep looking for excuses to take my music classes outside. I have a portable speaker with blue tooth, so as long as I stay near the school building, I can do it! May for me is “easy” as far as actual teaching but the behavior is hard to deal with because some students think the rules don’t matter…

    1. Oh, I always loved my teachers who took their classes outside in the spring/summer ;)

  12. 12 years! Time flies. For some reason I feel like I’ve been following along your blog since then… I don’t quite remember.

I’ve been in a little bit of a rut lately. Too many changes in the last 9 months and now that I’m finally settled into work and my home, the reality of being on my own is setting in. Hopefully I can get through May quickly, go to Airborne school in June and then home to Germany for a bit in July.

    1. Well, I had my blog for that long… so it could totally be that we’ve been following each other since the beginnings :)

I hope you’re ok. I can imagine that now that things have settled down a bit, your new reality becomes more apparent. I am glad you’ll be going home for a little while in July! Let me know if you need anything.

  13. That retreat sounds fascinating. I don’t think I’ve ever attended something like that, so I can’t wait to hear more.

12 years of marriage! That’s amazing!!

    1. I can’t wait to tell you guys more about the retreat!

  14. That is fun that you will share an anniversary with your friend! Phil and I will share an anniversary with Prince Harry and his wife-to-be, Meghan! So that is kind of cool. It’s crazy that we will be celebrating our first anniversary in about 10 days. Time has flown – probably because of being pregnant and having a baby. ;) We really packed a lot into that first year of marriage!!

Your retreat sounds like fun! I would love to do a retreat some day but have never done one. I did go on a spa getaway with some friends years ago which was so much fun!!

    1. Hey, sharing your anniversary with Prince Harry and Meghan is fun :)

  15. There could be worse places to be while out working in the field. :)
I really can’t wait to read all about your women’s wellness retreat. Sounds amazing. My friend was trying to get together with a bunch of us for June but I can’t make it, so I’m hoping we can plan something fun for the fall. We all absolutely need these little breaks from reality to decompress and recharge.

Good luck with your May goals. ;)

    1. Yes! Time away with girlfriends is THE BEST.
