relieved that we were not traveling for Christmas. It’s always crazy to travel around the holidays and I am trying to be thankful for the fact that we weren’t affected by the madness. But then again, I am…

wishing  that we would have traveled for Christmas, because I really would have loved to spend the holidays with family and friends.

bummed that I ended up being quite sick over the holiday weekend and that we had to cancel all our plans. We had planned to spend Christmas day with our friends in the Bay Area, but that was not in the cards. I think I haven’t been that sick in a long time. I slept for like 4 days straight. Luckily, I’ve started to feel like a human being again yesterday.

thrilled that I got to see and hug my dear friend Cathy (from Sydney) again. She was stopping over in Las Vegas on her way home to Australia after a 4 weeks vacation on the East Coast and I took a quick flight down there to hug her. We also had our first “sleep over” where we lay in bed in our pj’s and talked until 4 in the morning. If you had told me back when we started out as penpals when we were teeenagers that we’d have the opportunity to hang out and have some quality time together like that when we’re 40, I probably would have thought you were out of your mind. I think that might have been my biggest and most precious Christmas present this year.

hoping for some good news from my bff at home. I officially cancelled all my Christmas wishes, because all all I want for Christmas is to know that she’s going to be ok.

eating Halloween candy. Does that last until Christmas in your house? Haha.

drinking mug after mug after mug of tea. I hate how when you have a cold, you’re losing all your taste buds and nothing tastes good. I didn’t have coffee for a week (which should tell you something!), but I can’t wait to try this coffee that my friend Marie sent me from DC.

thankful for all the friends that sent Christmas cards and little packages in the mail this holiday season. It really made the holidays that much sweeter!

watching all the Christmas movies. I am trying to fit in as many as humanly possible this holiday season.  So far I crossed Home Alone 2, National Lampoon’s Christmas, A Christmas Story, Elf and Love, the Coopers off my list. Many, many more to go.

enjoying wrapping up the few Christmas gifts that I have to wrap this year. You must know that wrapping gifts and putting together little packages is probably one of my most favorite things to do around the holiday season, but with postage costing a fortune, I ended up purchasing a lot of gifts online (esp. for my overseas peeps)… which saves on postage (and custom fees and the worry that it might not arrive), but also deprives me of the gift wrapping part.

excited to try my hand at bullet journaling next year. I’ve officially decided to ditch my beloved Inkwell Press Planner for 2018 and try something new. Stay tuned for more on this little adventure. (Also, do you bullet journal? I need your ideas, thoughts, suggestions!)

I am also linking up again with Amanda from Running with Spoons for Thinking out Loud

  1. Ugh, such a bummer to be sick over the holidays – but at least you weren’t traveling after all, I guess! Sending so much love to your best friend from home… hope 2018 is a year of health & healing for her…

    1. Thanks so much for the well wishes for my friend… that means a lot Kate!

  2. Hey San,
so sorry to hear you wer sick. Good thing you feel better.
What a wonderful Christmas present to see your friend and how nice of you to take the trip down to Vegas. Not everyone would do that.
Also I am hoping your friend home is receiving good news.
Looking forward to tagging along on your bullet journal adventure. I do a little mixture – use a regular planner but fill a few pages with bullet journal spreads. I am just too lazy to do it all by myself. If you do not follow her on Instagram yet check out @boho.berry she is sharing lots of infos, challenges and video tutorials about her journal.
    Have a great day, Tobia

    1. Thanks so much for reading and always commenting, Tobia! I appreciate it more than you know. And thanks for the IG suggestion!

  3. So sorry to hear you were so sick! That’s never fun, especially when you had fun plans. I ended up dosing myself with a lot of zinc over the holidays because it seemed everyone *except* me was sick, at least not so far.

I’m very curious about this bullet journal thing. I don’t feel like I’m creative enough to do it, but I’m curious to see what you think of it.

    1. Thanks friend. I am finally feeling better again… I hope you were able to stay healthy! It’s hard when everyone around you is sick ;)

  4. I hope you like bullet journaling as much as I do! It’s been a great fit for me! It took a while to figure out what spreads worked best for me but now that I have it down it works so well for me and it’s less expensive than the planners that I was buying in the past.

I also got sick over Christmas which put a damper on things. I haven’t been able to go into the office at all this week as I’ve felt so awful thanks to this chest cold. And we had to cancel our trip to the lake cabin this weekend as I still don’t feel well so we decided it is best for us to stay home so I can rest up and hopefully feel better by the time I have to go back to work on Tuesday. I’m lucky that I have been able to work from home this week. My other 2 co-workers were on PTO so I needed to be available while they were out. Hopefully this chest cold goes away soon but I’ve read that it takes twice as long to get over a cold when you are pregnant since your immune system is suppressed :(

    1. I am so sorry to hear you were sick as well… I guess it’s going around. I am hoping you feel better by now!

  5. I’m so sorry you were sick, I hope you are feeling better. I had to google bullet journaling. I’m excited to learn more about it from you. I used to keep a diary- from middle school to my 20s. But for some reason as I got older, I didn’t want to rehash my feelings by writing them down. (I mean the DEEP RAW feelings that I can’t write about on my blog because it just wouldn’t be appropriate to put out there.) I think part of the reason for this is that in my 20s I took up running and I sort through my feelings on my runs, so I don’t have to write them down. But then there is no record of them…

    1. Oh, a bullet journal is more like a calendar… although you can make it whatever you want it to be, I guess. But I probably won’t write diary entries like I used to when I was younger…. most of it goes on the blog or stays in my head these days ;)

  6. I’m so sorry you were sick over the Christmas holiday – that is so not fun! I’m glad you’re feeling more like yourself, though. <3

I really want to try a bullet journal, but I just don't know if I have the patience for it, haha. I'm so bad at using planners regularly.

    1. I am hoping that the bullet journal will be more intuitive and useful than a regular planner, which I have used, but sometimes pages were empty, because I didn’t have anything to fill in for the week…. I’ll let you know how it goes.
