Hello September

Goodness, it’s September. I am so. not. ready. And almost-fall doesn’t seem to be on board either, because we have a continuing excessive heat warning in effect for the next few days!  I am not about to complain, because having flood waters in your house is infinitely worse, but it’s just another reminder that the weather is a little out of control.

Here’s what’s going on in my world this month:

+ First and foremost, my cousin and his girlfriend will be here in a couple of weeks and we’re going to be busy spending time with them. I am looking forward to taking some short road trips with them and showing them around Northern California.

+ It’s the last full month of baseball season (not counting the World Series, of course) and I’ll be enjoying the heck out of these last few weeks. My team, the Red Sox, are doing pretty well and I hope they’ll finish strong this year!

+ My Mom is spending most of this month at a rehabilitation facility after her big surgery last month and I am so glad she got approved for that again. They really take care of you in Germany after big health issues. The coolest part: my dad can accompany her (for a small additional charge) for a week, which is like a little mini-vacation for the both of them.

+ I am working today (as you might recall, I usually have Fridays off), but I still get a 3-day weekend (thanks to Labor Day) and I am saving up comp-time for some roadtrips with my cousin (see above!)

+ I am excited to check out our local Fleet Feet Store this weekend for Labor Day Sale. Hooray!

+ I’ll also be running the 10K  #runfortexas  this weekend and there is still time for you to join me and donate!

What’s up with you in September?

  1. Yay for September! I hope you get a reprieve from the heat soon though. Especially running this weekend! I’m glad your mom gets a nice long stretch to recoup and that your dad can be there with her! That is amazing. Have a wonderful long weekend!

    1. Thanks so much, Beth. Temperatures are supposed to go down a bit starting this week, so I am hopeful. Hope you had a great weekend, too.

  2. Good luck on your run this weekend! That’s great your mom is being so well taken care of, and that your dad can join her! How awesome is that? Yay for still getting your three-day weekend in!

    1. I am so happy that my Mom has the option to go to this three-week rehabilitation facility where she can truly focus on recovery!

  3. Germany really does have such a great healthcare system (I hear it all the time from my relatives!) and I’m so glad to hear your mom was approved for that rehab center and that your dad can accompany her :) I wish her the best as she recovers!

Best of luck on your run! Hope the weather cooperates this weekend :) xoxo ps–love your Birkenstocks!!

    1. Thanks so much for the well wishes for my Mom, Charlotte. I appreciate it.

      Birks are the best :)

  4. I’m happy to greet a new month because August was not a good month for me with all of my RA flares. :( Hopefully things start to improve for me soon as I’m just so over all the pain and not feeling like myself.

That is exciting that you have some guests coming to visit. There is so much for you to see and do with them – I bet it’s hard to pick what all to do! I love having visitors as it makes you be a tourist in your own city/area which is fun. My sister is coming for the weekend next weekend. She hasn’t really spent any time in Minneapolis since she moved to Arizona over 8 years ago so I am excited to show her around and do some fun things together.

I hope the weather cools off for you guys soon. It could be worse but heat warning kind of weather is not fun…

    1. I can imagine you are happy to bid farewell to August… hoping that September will be a much better month for you healthwise!

I am so excited to spend some time with my cousin and his girlfriend!

  5. Our beloved Red Sox are sure to win their division this year and get into the playoffs. The hated Yankees might squeak in through a wild card. My loyalty will be torn if the Red Sox face my other favorite time, the LA Dodgers, in the World Series. Oh, by the way, I just decided today to go visit Cooperstown this Fall and see the Baseball Hall of Fame. Have you ever been there? I went once when I was a child but that was long, long ago…

    1. Oh, you’re a Red Sox Fan, too…. that is awesome! I’ve never been to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, but it sounds intriguing!

  6. That is really great that your mom can stay in a good rehab center and that your dad can be with her! Hopefully the weather cools off for you soon, we’re having wonderful fall-like weather (though now it’s raining, which is not good for anyone at the beach for Labor Day Weekend).

    1. I hope you had a great Labor Day weekend with nice weather… it’s supposed to cool off a little bit here this week ,so I am excited.

  7. That is so great that your Mom can stay in a rehab center and your Dad can go with.
    Good luck for your run.

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by, Anthea!

  8. I have no idea where this year went. Glad I am not alone. I once read some scientific explanation why “older” people always say time flies. It had something todo with faster cell degeneration but I lost the article and can’t explain right. Anyway time flies…

    1. Faster cell degeneration.. hmm. I’ve heard it has to do with the fact that we don’t have as many “first experiences’ anymore and that time speeds up when we ‘repeat’ things all the time.
