so relieved that my Mom’s and sister’s surgeries in the last two weeks went so well.  Thanks again for all the good thoughts and well wishes! I appreciate it very much.

reading Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine by Gail Honeyman. It’s a kind of strange book so far, but the reviews are good, so I am curious where this story is going.

excited to try this new kohlrabi salad blend from Trader Joe’s. They must have heard me talk about kohlrabi recently… haha.

listening to Pod Save America. I am trying my hand at podcasts again – uh-oh! Hat tip to Stephany for recommending it. We’ll see how long that will last.

enjoying my long runs on Sunday. It’s so nice to be out and about on a Sunday morning when the air is still crisp and it always puts a smile on my face seeing so many other people out running or walking their dogs!

eating overnight oats with raspberries.

drinking Gerolsteiner + grapefruit juice. So refreshing!

thinking a lot about all the things happening in this country. I am so tired of the news cycle, the outrageous tweets, the ‘off the cuff’-speeches by the president.  Part of me really wants to take a break from everything, part of me is afraid of missing the next big faux-pas.

anticipating my first official raise (ever) on my next paycheck (however little it is going to be, ha!), and

wondering how much of it will actually show up as extra money on my paycheck (my hunch, not much) or if it’s all going to be eaten up by taxes and the next health care premium increase. Sigh.

watching baseball. Always. It’s one of the few things I can currently focus on.

feeling like such an adult. We got our gutters replaced earlier this month (in preparation for the next rainy season) and nothing makes me feel more like a grown up than handing over a big check to someone who fixed something around your house. Ha.

What’s up with you currently?

  1. I tried overnight oats last week and am a big fan now. I’ve been trying to avoid watching the news. I just don’t even have the words for what is going on in this country. I hope you have a great week.

    1. Yeah, it’s really hard to watch the news these days… I don’t even know what to think anymore. It’s all insanity.

  2. Overnight oats are my fave! Always looking for new ways to make them. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Love overnight oats. I use steel-cut oats, because they don’t get as soggy!

  3. I have still never tried overnight oats! I need to do that. And I need to get back into podcasts. Also I feel you on the news cycle – do you read the Skimm? It breaks things down in a way that feels a little less doom and gloom.

    1. If you give overnight oats a try, make sure you use steel-cut oats… they don’t get as soggy and are so delicious! Thanks for the recommendation – I’ll check out the Skimm!

  4. Congrats on the raise!! I also like Pod Save America and you should listen to Lovett or Leave It. It’s basically a spinoff podcast of PSA and very funny – more interactive with an audience too.

    1. Thank you for the recommendation, I’ll check out Lovett or Leave it. :)

  5. Oh I have another Podcast for you if you’re interested! It’s called Rough Translation by NPR. Try it out! I loved it.

    1. Thanks for the recommendation, friend. I trust your judgement!

  6. I love my “long run” Sundays as well. My runs haven’t been that long and yesterday’s was actually quite terrible as I kept getting side stitches, but it’s the only day of the week I run outside since it’s dark when I get up in the morning for my workouts, so it’s nice to head out and especially run to the beach near my apartment.

    1. I hate side stitches! I go to the gym during the week, because it’s dark in the morning when I wake up for my workouts, but I love the outdoor runs on the weekens :) Oh, and I am so jealous that you’re close to the beach… I wish there were more good running path here in Sacramento.

  7. Overnight oats are so yummy :)

    1. Yes, yes, yes! Love them.

  8. Yay! Glad you are going to give Pod Save America a try. I think you’ll really enjoy it!

    1. I have enjoyed the episodes that I’ve listened to so far… as I said, it’s mostly that I don’t know when to listen to podcasts… :)

  9. I hope you see SOME of the raise on your paycheck – but congrats nonetheless! :)

I’m currently trying to enjoy the warmer days to swim, because it’s going to get cold soon. I love the fall but I will miss the pool time.

    1. Thank you, I hope so too ;)

  10. Congratulations on getting a raise! That is so exciting even if taxes are going to take the majority. My weekend long runs are my favorite alone time of the whole week. They are just peaceful and really give me room to think and reflect.

    1. I totally agree. Long runs always give me time to think and reflect!

  11. I would love to try that kohlrabi salad from Trader Joe’s. My dad grows kohlrabi in his garden and we just eat them sliced.

    1. I love raw kohlrabi! I wish it was easier to find here.

  12. The book you are reading was just recommended on the most recent What Should I Read Next podcast (one of my favorites!). She said that most people love it but 20% don’t really like it as the main character isn’t super likeable? Hopefully you end up liking it!

I love Pod Save America. Those guys are so sharp and witty and they have great guests. I feel like they do a good job of telling me what I need to know in a nuanced way. I, too, am so over the cycle of awful embarrassing news. I just saw clips of the Phoenix rally from last night *hangs head in shame* I can’t believe that guy is our president and that he still have a following.

  13. Congrats on your raise! Even if it’s little, it’s a raise. I haven’t got one in a couple years. No one in my company except the CFO has. ARG
I hate what is going on in the world today. I just want to take a break from the news.

    1. Thanks so much. I know it won’t be that much, but every little bit helps, am I right?

  14. I listen to podcasts pretty much exclusively when I run now, unless I’m doing speed work. I tried it a few months ago and I’ve been hooked ever since. It seems to make those long runs go by pretty quickly.

And running on the weekends – especially in the early morning hours – is one of my favorite things because of how awesome it is to see other runners out and about. It makes me feel like a part of a community & I absolutely love it!
