Here and there

unnamed

Hello strangers. I am back from my overseas trip and – as always – am incredibly emotionally jetlagged. The general feeling of “blah, what am I doing here?” has yet to completely fade away and this always translates into a rather sluggish re-entry into my routine and daily life here in CA. I know from past experience that this will get better, but the first few days…? Tough shit.

I did have the best time though, and I am happy to report that I almost checked everything off my Germany bucket list. Sometimes, I just run out of time, but it worked out well this time, despite the fact that this was a rather short overseas trip for me (I usually try to go for at least two weeks what with the long flight and all.)

I didn’t make it to the downtown market with my Mom on Saturday morning (bummer!), but I got to attend one of my nephew’s soccer football matches instead, which was a special treat. I’ll take it.

I’ve been trying to catch up on you guys’ blogs over the last few days, but it’s been a bit overwhelming, to be honest. My Feedly reader had 1000+ unread blog posts upon my return and I had to make the tough decision to skip anything older than 2 weeks. I hope you forgive me. I usually hate doing that (because what if I miss something really important?), but for my own sanity, I had to be brave this time.

I hope May has been treating you well so far.
I’ll be back with some recaps and regular posting pretty soon!

  1. Oh San, sadly, I SO know how you feel. It’s awful, and at one point a couple of years ago I was seriously wondering if I should rather just forego those trips altogether to avoid the heartbreak (crazy, I know!). It hurts, every time, and instead of getting used to it all, it only seems to get harder the older I get. SIGH.

I hope you’re feeling better soon! I usually do after a couple of days when I am able to focus on all the things I really enjoy and that are good about my life here. Take care of yourself!

  2. It is so hard to get back into a groove after a trip like that! Take your time!

  3. I’m getting ready for a three week international trip myself. I LOVE traveling, but I know just what you mean. Coming home is so tough. The transition back is always hard. I hope you feel better soon!

  4. Welcome back! Sounds like you had a great trip, and I can’t wait to read the re-cap. Jet lag and getting back into the groove of regular life is tough, so be easy on yourself.

  5. I’m heading to Europe in August and I can only imagine what will be waiting for me when I get back!

  6. Germany is on my bucket list! Feel well and rest up!

  7. Welcome back and YAY for checking off most of that bucket list. Get some rest! Traveling is so exhausting!

  8. I’m glad you had such a great time – and were able to check off most of your Germany bucket list.

  9. Girl, I have whole folders in my feed reader dedicated to “only when I have the time.” ZERO guilt on that!

    Yay for lovely trips!

    xox

  10. welcome back! it was great keeping up with your adventures in Germany on Instagram. :) i’m behind on reading blogs, but now that I started updating again, I’ll be keeping up again. :P

  11. Welcome back!! I have been MIA lately as well but not for a good reason like a trip to Germany. Lucky Duck!!

  12. Don’t feel bad about marking posts as read. We all understand! It’s overwhelming to catch up when you have been away. I will likely do the same or only comment on some posts.

I am glad you had a wonderful trip home. I hope the emotional hangover has gone away as it’s tough to feel that way for an extended period of time. I can’t imagine how hard it is to be so far from your family! Hugs to you!!!

  13. I missed your trip. Still struggling with being ill. I think 2017 will be chalked up as the year I wasted on illness.
I did have a surprise last week. A week ago on Sunday morning, my door bell rang and I went to answer it (in my pajamas) and there was a dear friend of mine from Buchholz, DE! I was shocked. She has been worried about me because of my illness, and decided to just come. She got a cheap ticket out of Hamburg, and arrived here for six days! A few people here thought this was a little crazy, but to me, it showed me how much she cares. I will say that the 6 days went by too fast and we had a wonderful, quiet, chatty, time!
