Who I am (at the moment)

Untitled

I am …

… sad to finally take our Christmas tree and decorations down. I know, I kept it up even over a week longer than what’s customary in Germany! What can I say? The holiday season was too short.

… hiding in books. I am already on my 6th book and it’s only the middle of January. (What’s happening?)

… devastated to see Barack and Michelle Obama leave the White House. Did you watch Obama’s Farewell Address? I really can’t fathom that in a few short days, he’ll not be our president anymore. I have so many feelings attached to the fact that his time as president is up.

… heart-warmed by (and crying through this tribute to) the candid relationship between Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

… relieved that my dentist appointment last week went well. I had to have a crown replaced (which I had had for 15+ years, mind you) and wasn’t really thrilled about it. My dentist was joking if I was worried about it being Friday, the 13th, but to be honest, I am not superstitious and if anything, Friday the 13th was a good omen for me. All went well.

… a little stressed out by a work project that I have to finish, but which is giving me one headache after another. Sometimes it’s a real bummer if you have to rely on computers for your work so much that if the computer acts up, there is nothing you can do about it (besides call IT and hope they can make the problem go away, so you can meet the deadline).

… hoping to make some more time for knitting again. I have to finish my shawl that I started in the fall (or shawl-time will be over soon).

… enjoying my long runs on the weekends. It’s been raining a lot and since it’s still dark in the morning before and in the evening after work, my weekly workouts have been moved to the gym until spring comes, but I’ve been trying to do my long weekend runs around the park (and neighborhood) when the weather permits and when it doesn’t rain, it’s perfect running weather. Cool, but sunny – courtesy of the Californian winter.

… getting so annoyed with Facebook lately. I really try to stay away, check in less regularly and only participate in some of my groups. There is a lot of content/posts on FB these days that just freak me the hell out. Just me?

  1. I hear you on the work causing headaches thing. All of my work is done online and if the program crashes (which it frequently does!) I loss all my work. Since I’m paid for what I complete, if my work disappears then so does my paycheque. Ugh. So frustrating. Here’s hoping your IT people can figure out what’s going on so you can meet your deadlines :)

    1. Hey, I didn’t know you had a new blog!

  2. I feel the same way about Michelle and Barack leaving the White House. Saw his farewell address and loved it – tears might have been involved. I am so sorry to see this era end – I remember watching his inauguration live from Chicago and cannot believe it’s been 8 years! So sad.

    1. It’s so sad. I don’t know what to do with myself.

  3. Come to the dark side and deactivate FB! :) It was the best decision I’ve made. There are some people that I only talked to on there, but overall it’s really for the best.

    1. Haha, you know, I have seriously thought about this…

  4. You are kicking butt on your reading goal! I’ve also been reading a lot this month and am on my 6th book. I get a lot of reading done on planes and when traveling as I haven’t had any evening commitments on my last 2 trips. And I’ve read some really great books! I’ve done reading challenges the last couple of years but am not this year and it’s so refreshing to just read what i want to read!!

I hope your work project gets wrapped up soon! So stressful when things come up that impact your ability to do the work that are out of your control!!

  5. I don’t even want to think about Barack and Michelle leaving the White House and… HIM entering it. It makes me sick to my stomach. Can we just fast-forward through these next four years?

Wow – 6 books already? GIRL. You are kicking ass. I’m on my 6th book, too! *high five*

  6. I have a dentist appointment next week and I am already nervous about it. It’s always the worst. I go on my lunch break, which I usually use to take a walk or read a book. And I feel like they always find something wrong. Here’s hoping I get your same dentist mojo this time around.

  7. The Obamas and the Facebook: same, same.

    xox

  8. I quit facebook a long while ago and it was seriously the best thing I’ve ever done. It was causing me way too much stress, so I understand the need to take some time away from it.

I’ve been hiding in books, too. What have you been reading?

  9. Ahhh once again I can relate to a few things you mentioned.
Facebook… I have two accounts business and private and the private one really sucks. It’s all shared stupid stuff and then all my “friends” from Idaho are on there and they are Trump crazy. It makes me sick and yet I check in and read it’s like an accident: appealed but can’t look away.
Computers: no job currently but I can relate. My home computer is totally overloaded. Yesterday it took me 15 min to read a recipe. It drives me nuts and I need an upgrade or solution or whatever. Unfortunately no IT to call
And last congress on your book goal. It’s amazing! I haven’t read a single page in a book. Hope I will be in the mood soon.
    Have a happy Friday
    Tobia
