28: On who I am at the moment

I am…

… bummed that I won’t be going home for Christmas… again. This will be third time not celebrating Christmas with my family. Two years ago, I thought it was a “one-time thing”, last year, I couldn’t believe I wouldn’t be going and now here we are again. I don’t have enough annual leave accrued, my parents were just here and I have a commitment to show up at home in the spring, so Christmas time loses again. Gah!

… so thankful though for the time I had with my parents. I just love being around them and, as you could tell from my vacation recaps (more to come!), we had a really fantastic time when they were here.

…looking forward to all the holiday shenanigans like Christmas decorations, lights, cookie-baking, movie-watching and card-writing. December is my favorite month of the year (even though it’s usually crazy-busy) and I want to make the best of it. Even if we’re not traveling for the holidays, even if it’s going to be a quiet Christmas.

… feeling frustrated with everything surrounding the election and the transition of the presidency. I am not encouraged by what is reported by the media, not by the people the president-elect is surrounding himself with, nor by his “I can get away with pretty much everything”-attitude. The conflicts of interests that have already been brought up are mind-boggling. Wondering how many of his supporters are already regretting their vote.

… tired of feeling like I have no time for anything when I know that this is really not true and that people probably think I am a selfish little brat for even saying this out loud, but the feeling of having gotten stuff done has very little to do with actual accomplishments, but perception and my perception stupidly tells me that more often than not my weekends run out before my (want-)to-do-list is checked off.

… in utter disbelief that this year is almost over. How is it almost 2017? Four more weeks and …poof!… another year gone. How do we make time go a bit slower? Anyone?

… so giddy about the Gilmore Girls revival. Ok, I have to admit here that I was never a die-hard fan and I’ve never watched all the episodes in chronological order. I’ve seen many, if not most, of the episodes, but don’t even know for sure if I ever officially finished the series, but I always identified with Rory and loved Lorelai and “A year in the life” was just what I needed this weekend! Although — I need to talk to you, if you watched it. I have a lot of feelings.

  1. Gilmore girls – I’m the same way, I like them (a lot), but not even sure if I saw all of the episodes (whenever I’m have like NOTHING to due I’ll watch one or two episodes). I can’t wait for next weekend to come, so I can watch the Year in their lives. LOl

I haven’t been back to Germany for Christmas since we moved to the US. The older I get the more I miss it. But this time of the year is our Black-Out period, so there is no way they would let me take time off to go and see the family :(

  2. Sorry you won’t be able to visit home for Christmas! A trip home in spring sounds wonderful though – is there something special happening, ergo the reason why you have to be here?
Totally bummed about the election and everything happening in the US right now. Kinda glad to be here at the moment.
I really have to get into GG – I never did and I think I might have to change that with everyone being so excited about the revival.
Hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful! Happy Monday xxx

  3. I am a serious GG fan! I found them my second year of college (and since my age corresponded with Rory’s, her second year as well), but I found the reruns on ABC Family and then found out one of my best friends had most of the other episodes taped, and then slowly I accumulated the whole series. I cannot even tell you how many times I have watched the series completely through. It’s always a yearning for me in the fall.

That best friend who had taped most of the episodes and my roommate at the time I found the show (we were all best friends, and started watching it together), met up halfway between us, and got a hotel room and brought a bunch of junk food, and binged them. Such a great mental break from our kiddos and my pregnancy and etc. I loved it, even though I am not blind to its faults. Anyways, share your thoughts! Can’t wait to hear what you think!

  4. I watched Part one, winter and part two spring yesterday evening.
I hope to manage to watch part three today. tomorrow hubby is home, so it will be thursday for part 4.
I am not sure i really like part one and two. Ok, yes, i like it, but not 100% what became of Rory and some of the other caracters.
we will see what part three and four will bring. :-)

  5. I haven’t been back to Lebanon for Christmas for years and years now, which to be honest I’m totally ok with. It’s more fun to go there in the summer so I can go to the beach. But I haven’t spent it with my parents (both of them – my mom was able to come about two years ago on her own) in a long time. I think that’s why I really don’t like this time of year. Makes me miss them even more than usual.

I’ve been watching the new Gilmore Girls! It’s interesting, but I haven’t finished it up yet. Waiting still to see what happens.

And UGH the elections. Awful, just awful.

  6. GILMORE! I came to this series late (the only season i saw live was the 7th awful season). However, while i have pretty mixed feelings about the ending, i could watch the “With a Little Help From My Friends” scene over and over and over and over and cry/smile every time. I thought the play was unnecessarily long, and didn’t like the whole “wild” thing (think both could’ve been done in better/different ways). None the less, I’m happy we got a revival even if the end result wasn’t my mental picture… I guess it never is, right?

  7. This isn’t my first Christmas without my family, but it’s my first living truly “away” from them…it’s different. And it’s hard. And I’m lonely, it’s not even December yet! :(

    xox

  8. I watched all the GG over the last couple of years as I had only seen some of the episode when it was on tv. I was able to watch 2 of the new episodes before leaving for Spain on Friday so i have been trying to avoid spoilers!!

  9. Such a bummer that you can’t go home for Christmas this year, but hopefully you can make it a good one with you and J! I still haven’t even decorated my apartment for Christmas, which is unheard of for me. Gotta get on that!
