4: Five things people don’t (might not) know about me

frifive2

Today I am linking up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for Friday Five 2.0 Linkup. They’ve taken over the weekly linkup from Courtney, Cynthia and Mar and I am so glad they did, because the Friday Five posts are so much fun – to read and to write – and I am finally jumping in.

Today, for a fresh start,  we’re sharing five things about us that you might – or might not – know. Especially for my new(er) readers, here are 5 random things about me.

1. I have a twin sister. If you’ve been reading for a while, you already know this, but my newer readers might not. My sister and I were born two minutes apart and no, we’re not identical (I wish we were.) Some people say we look very much alike, some say we look like ‘regular’ siblings, some say we don’t even look related. Haha, I am always amused by the responses. But here, why don’t you be the judge (this is one of our most recent pictures).

2. I used to play softball for 6 years (in Germany). My two main positions were catcher and 3rd base. I came from years of playing tennis (in a team) and totally embraced the new sport. J was very surprised (and thrilled beyond belief, haha) when he heard that I played softball in Germany and even more when he found out that we have a shared love for the Boston Red Sox. The sport was (and still kinda is) very young over there, but I loved playing and I would love to play again.

3. I am an eternal optimist. I always see the glass half full. I know that this is either who you are or aren’t, but I am glad I naturally always look on the bright side of things. I think that people are good and always expect the best of everybody. I know life can really beat your down sometimes and it helps me to keep my head above water to focus on the good.

4. I’ve never touched a cigarette in my life. Yup, not even one puff. My Mom used to smoke a lot when my sister and I were little and I guess children of smokers either become smokers themselves or never touch a cigarette. Both my sister and I never wanted to have anything to do with cigarettes and I am so glad I never tried it.

5. I love hot drinks over cold drinks and I think I might be in the minority, but give me coffee and tea any time of the day. While I do make an effort to drink the recommended amount of water every day, I’d always gladly go for coffee or tea when available.

Tell me one thing I don’t know about you!

  1. I think you & your sister have similar noses & cheekbones, but above & below that, very different facial structures. I’d say you look related, though, for sure!

I have touched exactly three cigarettes in my life, always drunk, & hated/regretted it every time. My father died of lung cancer, & I have never had any urge whatsoever (except for these three inexplicable moments, all very long ago). Mike quit exactly two weeks after meeting me – cold turkey!

    1. That is so nice that Mike stopped smoking cold turkey when he met you – for you AND for himself :)

  2. I can see some similarities between you and your sister but I wouldn’t say you look alike! I have cousins that are fraternal twins and they don’t look anything alike! And then I have twin uncles that are so identical, it’s hard to tell them apart (although one passed away in August, so sadly there will be no mistaking them for each other ever again. :…( ).

Let’s see, something you might not know about me is that I have bungy jumped from the 3rd highest bungy jump site in the world (well, it was the 3rd highest when I did it in 2002, it might not be anymore!). I am not a thrill seeker so this was very out of character for me. But the 3 friends i was traveling with all wanted to do it and I didn’t want to be the only chicken. I’m glad I did it as it was a very amazing experience and it felt good to do something soooo out of my comfort zone.

    1. I am glad that people see a resemblance at least… I always secretly wished that my sister and I were identical twins, I always imagined that to be so much fun.

      You BUNGEE jumped?????? WOW.

  3. Yeah. Don’t smoke cigarettes. They’re gross. Lol!

You guys have the same nose but that’s about it. I can’t believe you’re twins! I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be a twin. Or have a sister. I have two older brothers. Not the same.

    1. Ha. That’s funny that you say we have the same nose… I agree, in this picture it looks like it, but my sister’s nose is actually much more pointy than mine LOL

I always wondered what it would be like to have a brother!

  4. Hey San,
I knew about your twin sister but I guess if asked I wouldn’t have guessed on twin but I see the resemblance. I have a younger sister and growing up lots of people asked if we were twins. We never got it and it was annoying.
I also never smoked. Never had the urge to be “that cool” too start and saw no reason for doing it for myself. So glad about this fact.
    Happy weekend to you
    Tobia

    1. Isn’t that funny that we don’t look like twins, but sometimes ‘regular siblings’ look more alike than we do? That is so funny.

  5. If I didn’t know you were twins, I wouldn’t even say you are sisters. But even if you’re fraternal twins, I still think it’s awesome. My brother and I are 7 years apart (I’m the younger one) so I never experienced the closeness that I’m sure you did. I was incredibly shy and introverted as a kid so a built-in friend would have been nice.
And OMG on the cigarette thing – especially since smoking is still a thing in Europe. Everyone in my family has always smoked and I was always around it.
My parents quit in 1998 after my mom’s cancer diagnosis. My brother was always on again, off again. For me, it just never stuck, despite many attempts to pick up the habit (I don’t have an addictive personality). I used to enjoy my hookah from time to time but once I got serious about running, I stopped entirely.

    1. 7 years is a big age difference. Too bad you never were that close.

I am so proud of you that you stopped smoking (I don’t have an addictive personality either, thank goodness!)

  6. I’m also a twin (identical, freakily so), but I hardly think we look like anything more than siblings. There’s perception for you, ha! (I think you and your twin look like sisters, and you have the same nose.)

    1. I KNOW! Hi fellow twin… I am so jealous that you’re identical ;)

  7. I can definitely see the similarity, but I’m not sure I would have guessed you two were twins, if I didn’t know it already. My brother and I look alike that in high school, people I didn’t know would ask me if I was “Mark’s sister” because they knew him and I am basically just the female version of him. We have strong genes – both my nephews look EXACTLY alike! They’d probably be mistaken for twins if not for the 6 year age gap, ha.

Let’s see… something you may not know about me is that I was a cheerleader in high school! And I loved it so, so, so much. It was the most fun experience, but seems totally out of character for me, I know!

  8. I love hot drinks too. I can drink coffee all year, but I only tend to drink hot teas in the cooler months. I have never touched a cigarette either, yuck!
