Friday Facts

Untitled

I am a bit bummed this week. I was supposed to go to a workshop next week in Denver, CO (I’ve never been!) and was pulled from the workshop last minute. At first I thought “no big deal”, but I’ve been planning to go on this trip for weeks months and now I am quite disappointed that I won’t be going. I don’t travel much for work at all and was looking forward to getting out of the office for a bit.

On a happier note, my dear long-time, childhood friend just informed me that she’s coming to California at the end of November. She’ll be in SF for 4 (!) weeks and will most likely want to come and hang out with me on the weekends. She would – besides family – be the first person to ever visit me here since I moved to the States.. oh, just 14 years ago. Thrilled does not even remotely describe my excitement! Especially, given the fact that J and I will most definitely not be able to go to Germany for Christmas, and it will be nice to see a familiar face before the holidays.

Tomorrow is Halloween! J’s favorite holiday! Mine? Not so much. I usually don’t do scary things. I could be convinced to eat candy and watch “Hocus Pocus” though. That’s my idea of Halloween fun! What are your plans?

Hooray! The new IKEA catalogue came in the mail. Who’s excited?

I seriously feel like the end of the year has crept up on me. Maybe it’s because the transition from summer to fall has hardly happened here in CA and it feels very weird to be thinking about the holidays coming up in no time. I am not ready! I repeat, I am not ready!

Finally, in case, you’re not aware… I give you a little heads up on what’s coming in November. As every year, I’ll be participating in NaBloPoMo. Hooray. You’d better be excited. If you don’t know what NaBloPoMo is, read about it here or come back on Sunday for an ‘introduction’.

  1. I used to really dislike Halloween until I started dating Phil. We go to a party that his coworker throws every year and it’s really fun and low key. I don’t feel pressured to have the best costume which is good because I suck at dressing up. Besides that, we are having 3 couples over for a pumpkin carving get together tonight which will be fun!

That is a bummer that your work trip got cancelled!!

    1. Oh, I love that you’ve come to love Halloween because of Phil. We don’t go to any parties and we haven’t carved pumpkins in years, so I feel like there is not much to be excited about.

  2. Sorry about your work trip – I can only imagine how disappointing that must be! But if not now, if will probably happen some other time!
Yay, on your friend coming to visit! How exciting!
We already got our new IKEA catalogue weeks ago here in Germany and it is always still one of those happy moments after all these years and despite the internet!
Have a wonderful weekend – your idea of Halloween sounds perfectly fine to me! Will be doing the same!

    1. Ikea catalogue is definitely happy mail :)

  3. Well that’s not fun in regards to the work trip. Maybe another one will come up next year that you can go to? I’m actually not a fan of work trips and try to avoid them (which is no problem in my current job). In the field I’m in, it’s really not glamorous. We sit inside the whole time and end up working well over 50 hours a week, then pass out at night. Rinse and repeat till we can go back home.

I didn’t know you don’t like Halloween! It’s actually my favorite. :) I don’t always do something, but I love it because it’s so silly and fun.

I’m doing NaBloPoMo this coming month too! Glad you are too. :) Have a great weekend!

    1. I’m mostly bummed to not go on the work trip, because it would have given me the opportunity to mingle with colleagues that I usually only email with… also, I have been bouncing around for quite a while and that workshop was part of longer-term project that I won’t be part of now … so, I feel like I don’t really know where my place is right now, you know?

Yay, I am so happy you’re doing NaBloPoMo! :)

  4. You are always my reminder that NaBloPoMo is happening. I’ll have to jump on the bandwagon again this year. I feel like everyone is always bemoaning that blogging is dead (or dying), yet it’s in our power to revive it by simply writing and responding to each other.

I’m sorry your work trip fell through. I hope you’re able to travel for work soon to make up for it.

    1. Yes, Kendra, you are so right…. people who bemoan that blogging is dead don’t realize that we have the power to change that! I am looking forward to your posts in November!!

  5. I used to love Halloween, but in the past few years I’ve felt very “meh” about it. I don’t usually dress up anymore, but J and I do have plans to see a live performance of Rocky Horror Picture Show tonight, which should be fun.

I completely forgot about NaBloPoMo! For the past few years I haven’t been able to commit to it because of all the other big things going on in my life, but I could see myself doing it this year. Something to think about, anyway.

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Oh how fun! A live performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show seems like the perfect Halloween activity! Enjoy!

      1. Oh, and I’d love for you to join me for NaBloPoMo!! :)

  6. I don’t do ‘scary’ IRL either. Hate loud noises and things jumping out at me. Movies are fine though. :) I do, however, love costumes!!! And hanging out with too much candy!!! And fun Halloween movies. Hocus Pocus is a great pick!

    1. You guys have so many fun costumes! I love all your photos!

  7. I’m very “meh” about Halloween, too. I did dress up because my work likes to go all out for the holiday and that’s fun. (But I stick to easy “punny” costumes that cost me next to nothing. It’s crazy how much time/money people put into their Halloween costumes!) But I don’t get trick-or-treaters since I live in an apartment and am not particularly interested in Halloween parties so ah well. Gimme Thanksgiving and Christmas! :)

So excited to see you in my feed reader every day this month. Yay!
