Friday Facts

I was very shocked and saddened to hear about the horrible plane crash in the French Alps earlier this week. Emotionally, this one hit close to home, because I consider ‘Düsseldorf’ (and Köln) my home airport(s) in Germany and when I heard that there were students and their teachers on that flight from Barcelona to Düsseldorf, it instantly reminded me of the times when my Dad (a now retired highschool teacher) went on school trips to Barcelona with groups of students. As horrible as this all is, I am really disgusted by the media reporting that followed this crash. The speculations are all over the place and although I understand that people – especially the loved ones of those who lost their lives in this terrible crash – want and demand (let alone, deserve!) answers, the way that the media has been handling the events is just appalling and really unacceptable. Sensational headlines and wild speculations delivered as ‘facts’, manufactured from isolated pieces of half-truths. Media, I demand better!

My friend Susi texted me  this morning and said that she desperately needed some girl time. A couple of hours later and we had booked a wellness day at a spa in Sonoma for April through a too-good-to-pass-up deal on Travelzoo.com. Color me excited!

Did anyone else have a terrible time sleeping this week? I had three bad nights in a row and felt exhausted by the end of this week. It wasn’t even full moon! Since I am usually a very good sleeper (I fall asleep easily most times, I don’t wake up a lot usually…), it really threw me off this week and it really made me feel for people who struggle with insomnia. How do you manage??
No, seriously, how do you manage?

Today was laundry day. Are you one of the unfortunate people that has to schlep all their clothes to the laundromat? Yeah, us too. We do have a pretty good system down (we do laundry every 3 weeks, 5 loads in about 2 hours), but I really, really can’t wait for the day when we have a home with a washer and dryer.

And finally, a little shameless self-promotion: I added a couple of new items to our Etsy shop, in case you’re interested to take a peek: Knit, 100% cotton washcloths,  a set of “You’re so sweet” Notecards and a set of Bunting “Happy birthday” Notecards.

Happy weekend!

  1. I was so saddened by the news of the plane crash. It’s so very tragic. :(

I have major trouble with sleeping and even though I am on a prescription strength sleeping pill, I still struggle to fall asleep and stay asleep. It’s a struggle. I would love to take a pill to eliminate the need to sleep because it is a major source of stress. I know I need to do something about it but I hate the thought of the sleep training I’d have to do to work through my insomnia… But it’s on my list of goals for the year.

  2. Oh, the new stuff in your shop is so cute! That bunting birthday card is my favorite.

  3. Our need for information 24/7 has turned our media into a group of raving lunatics. It really is disturbing, isn’t it? Sigh.

I never used to have issues falling or staying asleep … and generally I still don’t … except for Sunday nights. For whatever reason, over the past 9 months or so, it’s been REALLY difficult for me to fall asleep on Sunday nights and I generally find myself waking up multiple times over the course of the night and have trouble falling asleep each of those times, too. It’s really no way to start each week. Sigh.

  4. During my pregnancy with Lucy I took Tylenol PM every night per my doctor’s instructions and it really happened. It’s non habit forming, and basically just Tylenol with some Benedryll. So I’ve also just taken Benedryll and skipped the Tylenol part. Right now I take Melatonin every night to get me over the hump. It’s not a fun struggle. Hope you get over it quickly!!

  5. I didn’t know you had an Etsy shop….and off I go!
