Birthday shenanigans

My birthday was earlier last week and I had planned ahead and worked some extra hours in advance so that I was able to take Monday off. It was a beautiful day and I started out with some coffee and birthday cake (cherry crumble cake – yum!).

As you know, I am a twin and therefore my sister had her birthday, too. Usually we try to skype, so that I can participate in the birthday shenanigans that are usually going on with the rest of the family at her place, but the Internet wasn’t working and so a phone call had to do. Bummer. It might be hard to understand, but it was hard to not ‘see’ (let alone celebrate without) my sister.

I still had a great day, because I got quite some birthday mail this week (thank you so much for sending cards and packages!) and many birthday wishes via Facebook, Twitter and texts.

J and I went out for happy hour later (I had not one, but two cocktails. Who am I?), an appetizer plate …

and then I decided on sushi for dinner later. I recognize a theme here, because I think I picked sushi for my birthday dinner a couple of years in a row now!

Thanks again to everyone who made my birthday extra-special. ♥

  1. sounds like you had a lovely birthday celebration. :) bummer about the internet being down.

  2. hooray! happy birthday, sweet lady. Or, as I like to say, Happy San Appreciation Day! :) Glad it was lovely (and sushi is ALWAYS a great choice!)

  3. Aw, I totally understand why it was hard to not ‘see’ your sister. I much prefer video chats to phone calls because I feel closer to the person. It’s hard to be away from home on big days like your birthday! I am glad you had a great day, though. Looks like the weather was gorgeous and that sushi looks amazing. And hey, if there is ever a day to have two drinks when you normally wouldn’t, it’s your birthday. Here’s hoping the year to come is wonderful!

  4. Sounds like a lovely birthday! I’m sorry you weren’t able to see your sister, though.

  5. Happy {late} Birthday San!! I’m so glad you had a super great day! I’m sorry you missed seeing your sister, I understand what it’s like with family so far away. Loving the vintage Pyrex! I was a closet collector until I ran out of room. Wishing you the best next year of your life!

  6. Aww too bad about your twin video date. :( Hope you guys were able to make up for that another day!
All your food looks amazing! Cheers!

  7. Aww looks and sounds like a lovely birthday! <3

  8. Looks like a lovely way to spend your birthday (well, besides having difficulties connecting with your sister, no good). Hope the birthday week was a good one!

  9. hurray your birthday, looks like the best kind of celebrating!

  10. First: HAPPY BIRTHDAY AGAIN!!!

Second: I had no idea you were a twin. (Did I?)

Third: That picture of you at the sushi dinner table. Stunning. Love it. You’re so pretty!!

  11. Looks like you had a great birthday!
